I read this thread to find out what is coming soon, if people want to speculate and list any old rumours and people enjoy that aspect then that's fine by me.
Though only a few days ago, even MB thought about launching a 'Rumour Thread', which to me would be a better idea to keep all these rumours and speculation separate and keeping this thread to what it is titled about... things that are Coming Soon to VM..

But don't give the 'if you don't like it, don't read it line as it's pathetic...

Also in regard to your last comment, well perhaps people either don't want to post, preferring to lurk till some actual news is posted that is confirmed.
In my opinion it's the same little clique who make up the majority of posts in this thread, and to newbies or infrequent posters this can be off putting.
Also many of us read the thread but don't comment, and when we do it's for a valid reason and not just posting to increase their post count.

Anyway, that's my opinion on it.

And your opinion is valid and appreciated bud ;)

All opinions are valid, it's a discussion forum after all :)
It just bugs me when people use the lazy reply..

Cheers anyway, will let you all get back to the rumour mill ;)

I think we need a separate rumours thread. That way the mods can moderate the ass out of people who whinge and complain about rumours!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

I think the thread is fine as it is, rumours and all.

The first page of this thread does state:

"Keep up-to-date on the latest news on upcoming channel launches and other important events across all platforms of Virgin TV network."

So what does news mean:

Informal information not previously known

A person or thing considered interesting enough to be reported

This has never been the 100% confirmed thread.

Honestly I'm not trying to chew anyone out here, or be a smart ass, the thread is what it is and is unlikely to change. It's this sites mainstay in terms of views and posts however it does seem to have a Marmite effect :)

Fully agree, this thread has always been full of rumours and news, and has always worked well, splitting the rumours off onto their own thread wouldn't work, it would quickly fade away

This has always been a rumours thread if your want only official news the community forum is probably a better place to look. And if only official stuff was posted them this would be a very quite thread.

I disagree, you can have this thread as only confirmed changes. The second thread could be for rumours only. As it stands you get whiney whiners who only come in to poke the rumour people with a cattle stick.

Yes there is the changelog thread but it's not used for discussing what's coming soon to VM. It's more of a list of changes, but no discussion about the posts made.

Also the blog is a good resource but again it's not used for discussing and is more of a website giving information to readers.

Yes it's a choice to read the thread or not, what am calling pathetic is people who come out with that as a reply on a forum for discussing what's in the thread title.

I read the thread (obviously) but at no point have said I don't like it, what is dumb is coming to assumptions about people or what they do with their time.

I've already said what I read the thread for, perhaps you should try reading posts before bashing away on your keyboard totally missing the point

No worries matey, there are many people on here with health conditions. Most people are decent and empathetic, but, be warned, there are a few bad eggs. One woman openly challenged and belittled my disability/illness and then had the audacity to try to tell me how it should be affecting me!!!

Don't visit for a few hours and the "this thread is pointless" argument begins.

To define;

This thread: Rumour and Confirmation of Coming Soon from VARIOUS Sources.
Changelog: changes that have occurred

This thread: discussing things that are confirmed or rumoured
Changelog: confirmed changes, no rumours.

This thread: makes cableforum worthwhile
Changelog: I hardly see it, should probably be pinned but you know

Digital Spy: let's make fun of those on cableforum cause we think we are the almighty rulers of the world.

Lifetime HD is not being BARB Reported, and was not submitted with Lifetime and Lifetime +1 which would suggest it isn't being launched.

Bio will also not finish BARB reporting on the 3rd November

Giving extra time to switch genres on the EPG perhaps? Then again, Bio could close at 23:59 on the 3rd with Lifetime starting at 00:00 on the 4th.

But the posts clearly state "rumours" by media boy or posters stating "from what I'm hearing..."

This is such a non discussion which has been going on all day. How about we leave everything as it is. People understand what this thread is, read the posts carefully and then we can all move on. :)

Or if they just want facts just move to the change log thread where just the changes are reported.

Excellent now that's sorted we can move on.

This.

We won't be renaming this thread as it is to discuss whatever is 'Coming Soon to Virgin TV'.

News that is, at the time of posting, just a rumour is marked as such. I have posted such things and made it very clearly that they should be taken with a pinch of salt. That's not to say they're lies (I have no reason to suggest this), but they are just....rumours. That goes for anything else posted in the same way.

Until we can get official confirmation from VM, every piece of news about something 'Coming Soon' should be treated as such.

I fully understand the frustration of being told that a particular service, channel, update etc is on its way - after all I'm a VM customer too - but it's pointless to get your hopes up unless something is verifiable from VM themselves.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

I have a day away from here and it all kicks off. I agree with Russ, everything on here is posted in good faith. The people who normally inform us have their trusted sources and at time of posting the news may have been correct. But surely people can understand that launching a new channel isn't the easiest thing. It can be a technical nightmare. VM will only launch channels after extensive testing, if there is a glitch they will work at it until it's right. Take Netflix for example, this was rumored to launch this past week. At the time we received this news, it may have been the plan but due to a technical aspect it may have been postponed.

Honestly I'd rather VM do this because it then prevents us moaning if they launch a faulty product.

I think the*Premier Sports*posts got removed as they were jammed between others that were seen as off-topic. The two points were:
1)*Premier Sports' Facebook page*"*Great news, any update on Virgin yet? [23 hours ago]
*No but you never know. Things can move quickly. [20 hours ago]
2) If I remember correctly,Technix said he had heard a deal between the two companies was looking more likely. If so, channel 551 would be the channel number.

Don't want more wi-fi flying through my body thanks. Hope if VM release new boxes you can turn it off. Chinese are refining wi-fi through LED light bulbs at the moment.

New TiVo box will too.

The new Virgin TiVo?

Obviously the Sky box has Wi-Fi for anytime or on demand, but that's not necessary on a cable box.

I really think I'd prefer to have a wired connection for streaming to/from a TiVo.. got mine all set up for MRS but the poor channel choice means it never gets used.

If VM were to include a large choice of channels in the 101-199 range then would probably use that aspect of TiVo a lot more.

I'd also like to see them introduce the option to be able to stream your own media via TiVo to your TV but can't see this happening anytime soon.
Luckily our Smart TV/Bluray player does this for us downstairs and Bluray player does upstairs.

The TiVo has a lot of potential to be a central hub for your entertainment needs in the home with the the apps 'store' and connectivity but I feel VM need to move quicker than they do.. for example the Android TV Anywhere App that still hasn't been released

Given up on MRS - felt like a mug paying £5 extra for a 2nd TiVo while waiting for mainstream channels to become available for streaming. Got my 2nd Tivo swapped for a V Box.

I got my 2nd box installed while it was £3 per account (not box) and despite them trying to remove that option and charge me an extra £3, I get a rolling discount to bring it back to what I originally had.

I enquired about dropping the 2nd TiVo and just putting in a VHD box in it's place but it worked out I wouldn't save any more anyway (or so they said to me!)

Yeah the channel choice is still poor, can't even find the page on the VM where it lists them (was out of date last time I found it)

I noticed it got deleted. The fact Technix had the info is very promising.

Don't get me started on those on the DS Thread. Last night he stated that a media degree is not a degree, or sorry as he says, a Meeja Degree. I'm also not going to point out the legal stance on him using the VM Cable to watch channels without a subscription.

It's a shame MRS is so bad, it would be a good feature, apparently Sky will be introducing their own version soon, Virgin better step up their game.

Personally though I do use both Tivo boxes, but i wouldn't have them both for the sake of MRS right now.

The main reason I got the 2nd TiVo was to encourage myself to watch telly in the front room more - but nearly all of the TV I watch is recorded, so that 2nd TiVo was to be used mainly for streaming from the TiVo in my lounge to the front room.

That was the plan anyway. It was foiled by the likes of BBC, ITV, C4, Sky etc. If that changes and MRS get more channels then I might reconsider but for now, I'd rather save some money.

paultrademark -
they told me too that I wouldn't save anything - I told them they were wrong, and they were charging me £5 extra per month. They rechecked and said 'yeah, you're right.' I'm now paying £48 per month for the Premiere Collection (with the phone line rental pre-paid for a year).

I'm pretty sure you can't launch an SD channel on Sky now without buying a vacant slot , example BT Sports used ESPN's SD slots , so if Bio was to continue why would its slots be given for use with Lifetime ?

But the biggest thing holding this up is rights issues. I'm sure VM would love to enable all these things on Tivo (including Tivo Stream) but are held up because of rights issues. Look at MRS as an example.

I got a 2nd TiVo for my daughters room with the promise of loads of mrs channels soon to be available, still waiting think vm have given up on that one now like there on demand service and tv anywhere app.
Sky on demand service is now far superior and there sky go app on iPad whilst less channels as quality channels and you can download to watch when not connected.
That is one thing that winds me up about vm they have these great ideas but never fully back em

A+E currently own a slot from when they closed Bio+1 down a while back.

Again no confirmation of shut down as they have not confirmed the end of BARB reporting, but the TV guide isn't going past November 3rd on the website.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

The MRS issue is one that really frustrates me. I got a 2nd TIVO specifically for this purpose in November 2011 after the 15.2 update was released, bought some homeplugs and got the boxes talking to each other. All that I needed to patiently wait for was the rights. Yet to this day I can't find a recording that I have made that I am able to stream.

The Virgin/TIVO deal was announced four years ago now, and MRS was being talked about in the press as a potential feature almost immediately. Presumably it was talked about internally long before the deal was announced too. They really have had ample time to sort the rights out. A big opportunity missed in my opinion. Maybe 2014 will be the year for MRS!

Update Re: Premier Sports.

I've just made some enquiries and, as it currently stands, it appears that Premier Sports won't be going into the XL TV package.

In an effort to appease MP's, a compromise has been offered where the channel will still be standalone, but the owners of the channel have been offered more favourable terms than the previous owners of VM were prepared to offer.

Nobody has heard ANYTHING about Baby TV going into XL. Personally, I would now put this down as a rumour without foundation.

The chairman of a rugby club whether an MP or not is highly unlikely to be able to get a company as large as VM to add or remove channels.

There's no need for WI-FI on Tivo when there’s a dedicated 10mb that vm could up grade the speed, if you want to stream videos to other tivo there’s no other way but use cable you will get a better result than to clog up your WI-FI ;)
