the clause isn't pointless if Barcelona want to hang on to him. meet the hiked up clause or go away, simple.

Exactly.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it's a legal requirement to have a release clause in a contract in Spain. When a club buys a player they don't intend selling them on again so just put a stupid number for the clause. It's only players that come through the youth systems that are likely to have reasonable release clauses. They don't ward off interest as we have seen, they are pointless and people read into them far too much.

thenry 24-07-2013 16:18

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

They don't ward off interest if the selling club accepts a cut fee or gets done for if the release clause is cheap, youth growth.. the latest example being Thiago to Bayern.

oh now another twist..

Quote:

Suarez and his agent, Pere Guardiola, brother of the Bayern Munich manager Pep, have worked on the understanding that a clause in the player’s contract states that Liverpool’s failure this season to secure Champions League football means any bid in excess of £40m from a club in the competition would require Liverpool to sell the player. They are mystified as to why Liverpool have rejected the Arsenal bid out of hand.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/f...m-8730931.html
i just want this transfer wrapped up now.before it gets nasty like his previous...

Quote:

Suarez has been in this situation before. When his first European club, Groningen, turned down an offer from Ajax for his services in 2007, the player engaged his legal team and took his club to court.

He did not win the case, but he had forced Groningen's hand. When Ajax returned with a better offer - not exactly an extortionate one, but a better one - they felt compelled to cut their losses and accept. Arsenal's bid, likewise, may have been designed to give Suarez the ammunition he needs to force a move out. He had already been in touch with his lawyers before news of the offer broke.

This is, whoever you support, a sad state of affairs. It is sad because it means Suarez's relationship with Liverpool will end on a sour note. It is sad because the club, who stood by him even as he threatened to drag their name through the mud, will see their support thrown back in their face.

It is sad because it offers an indictment of the reality of modern football, that a player will do all he can to avoid handing in a transfer request so as to remain eligible for all of the loyalty bonuses inserted into the contract he is trying to break.

What little chance he got, he didn't show more than the others there. I wasn't overly impressed the little I seen of him.

But I don't pick the players or the team. He was an odd choice for Man City. But he was one of several odd choices

He's better off holding out at City to see how he gets on under Pellegrini. If things don't work out then theres always an opening at Dortmund next season when Lewandowski leaves on a free.

I wish they would. Sick of big clubs snapping up everything then benching them. Demba ba is no different. Chelsea saw 7m easy deal thus noone else could buy him and they wouldn't have to play against him. Dzeko should move though. Arsenal could have a pop should suarez stay put. Wenger was obviously looking for something when he signed Giroud and I tuink he'd find that and more in Dzeko. Liverpool could look too should they lose suarez.

Gomis skipped a meeting with the lyon boss probably a further attempt to force a move to tyneside. Newcastle haven't mentioned him for a week though and the cisse drama is over.

So Bernard didn't have his medical today :fit: L'Equipe, the famous L'Equipe  I'm getting a horrible feeling Arsenal are using the Fabregas situation to not sign anyone. The Suarez deal looks complicated, thats understandable but I heard a source close to Arsenal say we haven't brought a DM because of Fabregas, hwo the hell does an AM have bearing on a DM. This Suarez deal seems like Liverpool are acting in the wrong. From what I understand, Suarez has in his contract a minimum release fee of 40 million, so Arsenal offer £40,000,001 to trigger it. Liverpool are saying they want 50 million for him, but surely if the contract has a minimum release fee in it, that should be enough to be accepted.

Apparently it could go to a tribunal, and I wouldn't mind betting if I have read it right Suarez will be an Arsenal player before the window shuts.

If he'd worked that out his future would have been full of praise..However he caved in and went back to his roots. .it's hard to see how many clubs would even consider taking a gamble with a player that's been arrested more times than gazza. Right my views on Suarez. I'm been listening and reading a bit because this is just pure drama I didnt really have an opinion, kind of lost with Higuain going elsewhere and all but here goes and I'm not being bias. Liverpool should have taken the 40m and run focusing on the clubs image but instead Suarez owes Liverpool apparently. They have lost the club bigger than player front. Earlier before Bayern v Dortmund ESPN had their pressbox thing which spoke of Suarez. They said a few years ago Liverpool would have got shot of Suarez without thinking twice but now they have declined they wont. My view of that is its dangerous. This will get nasty and Liverpools stance of the player owes the club is doing nothing good for their image. getting shot would have done much more good. Now though the ship is going to sink because Suarez will kick up a fuss.

On top of that Tottenham are moving in for Soldado. Liverpool will regret missing out on him. He's one of not soo many looking to break into the National team.

whats your view?

Its being reported Tottenham have reached an agreement for Soldado. if thats true then I stand by what i said, Liverpool stance is going to sink the ship.

our officials are a total waste of time. the lot of them, total incompetence. always differing. waiting around for something to happen. i dont think they realise they have to make things happen. In hindsight Arsenal should have bitten Real Madrids hand off when they put a 25m tag on Higuain, i though it was a bargain considering the media were saying Higuain would cost 35m at the end of last season but they wait until the price is hiked. pee take. everyone is saying Arsenal are soo slow completing deals.

Suarez still faces a dilemma over whether to hand in a transfer request and force through a move to the Emirates as he fears the Gunners could miss out on qualifying for the competition THIS year. The Gunners face a play-off to reach the Champions League group stages and will not guarantee their place until three days before the transfer window closes.

Suarez already has representatives searching for a new London home for him.

Cavani on Suarez...

“We have been speaking a lot and, while I can’t tell you everything, I can tell you that he is desperate to start playing Champions League football. Liverpool already know that, though, because he has told them. I think if he thought Liverpool would qualify for Champions League football next season he would stay but, with the other top teams in England adding players, he doesn’t think Liverpool have the resources to break into the Champions League spots. I have said before one of the most complete strikers in the world needs to be playing at the top level and I hope Liverpool understand that. He doesn’t want to leave on bad terms because he respects the club and fans, but he needs to achieve his dreams in the game.”

I think Madrid stalled waiting for Napoli or someone else to come in. They knew it was a sellers market so stalled and hiked the price. We should have payed it.

ah ye we need the manager in place first which was good for RM, learnign from mistakes although we could have easily agreed in principle. the club just doesnt react fast enough. soo damn slow

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Real Madrid will never learn. Bale won't bring them the champions league. Real Madrid have 11 elite players from all over that simply can't play together. There's a reason Barcelona dominate, their players are mostly homegrown talent combined with proper training to a point where they can pretty much all read each others minds. Madrid however just expect their world all stars to win without using the mindset alone. All the players come from completely different styles of football. You have ozil doing one thing and Ronaldo doing something completely different. They can dominate poor Spanish opposition all they want but it means nothing when you finish second with no European trophy.

thenry 28-07-2013 00:21

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

two different styles of football. thats not to say your wrong, your right, both styles need communication, discipline and all but look at it this way too, Real Madrid compete with Barcelona on signings alone... 'whos got bigger balls' i was speaking to Spanish mates a few years ago talking me through the politics side which is just crazy, on a whole different level.

they all went on holiday and will argue business wouldnt have been able to be done in the early period. 'apparently' a businessman from the states has arrived at Arsenal to conclude transfers. I don't know whether thats Arsenal feeding third party crap to shut them up or these men incharge really havent got a clue and have called for help.

So the Football League starts next week, looking forward to it. Although is it me, or does the gap between end and start of seasons seem to be getting smaller every season? Could there be an earlier start this year as the World Cup is next summer, and the FA are trying to get a couple of weeks rest between the end of season and World Cup?

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Spurs could end up next year with no Champions League football and a Gareth Bale worth less than £20 million. There's absolutely no guarantee Bale will have another season like last. Ronaldo had 3 incredible seasons at United scoring an unbelievable amount of goals (more than Bale by far) before signing for Madrid for a record £80 million.

£86 million for Bale right now? Daniel Levy has lost it. It's a gamble to keep him and assume you'll end up in the Champions League and still be able to flog him for £80 million, it's less of a gamble to do off with him now and invest in an incredible amount of money.

The Real risky side is him not performing at Madrid...

I don't get it with Bale, he's certainly not worth that price but he's not as such overrated. I think he's drawn attention by being the one man show at Spurs. Robin Van Persie scored more and had more assists than Bale last season and for me it's about the total.

Juan Mata, Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla all had great seasons but have received next to no recognition. If anything they're all just as good as Bale. Eden Hazard had a decent opening year and will only get better, he's not far behind Bale and if anything in a few years will be better than Bale.

Aye its all a bit crazy. Luckily if they splash the cash for Bale they won't be chasing Suarez and that allows Arsenal to remain favourites. Even if Arsenal could keep up with RMs ludicrous bids would you actually want to pay 50 million upwards for him?

Don't seem that far apart to me. I didn't just say Walcott either, I rate Mata higher than Bale too, he's a better passer, sets up more goals and is just as good a finisher. In a few seasons Hazard will be better than everyone listed here. Bale had a decent game against us and scored too, Walcott however absolutely destroyed us.

Someone put it perfectly.
