I hate watching Arsenal when they're like this. I don't know what's going on but they're not keeping the ball, affording them too much space, and just sitting back. Very edgy right now.

Montpellier deserve a lot of credit. Seems like they've been waiting for this game at the expense of their league campaign. Full of energy even 85 minutes in.

nervy game. our away record/performances in the CL needs addressing.

I see the city fans were singing about Munich again tonight. I wonder if there will be any media coverage of that, after all the media coverage of what (didn't) happen at Old Trafford at the weekend.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Find some of the after game interviews hilarious.

Mancini dubs the Crouch goal at the weekend 'Something from the NBA'

Come off it Roberto, If it had been Tevez doing it you would be fine and that's what annoys me. His players can spend the season diving around penalty areas but as soon as one dubious decision goes against him he's furious.

Since when has football been about feeling contact and going down? Hearing a pundit say the player is entitled to go down after feeling some contact is an absolute joke. If the contact is not sufficient enough to take you to the ground then it is a dive! that's all there is too it, have we come to a stage of accepting diving now or something? I'm sick of seeing replays of penalty decisions been based on contact and hearing commentators claim ''well he's been touched so it's penalty'' and more recently hearing ''Welbeck took a nick there he should have went down'' Commentators encouraging players to dive? Am I hearing thing's right?

It's laughable to see ultra-slow motion replays zoomed right in to see a tiny nick on a guy's shin. Seriously if you have to go through all that then you know it's a dive for heavens sake. Doing this week in week out makes it completely acceptable.

Football is turning into a debt-ridden horrid sport. Used to be tactics involved attacking, how to defend a certain player and what to do from set pieces.

Seems like the modern tactical sheet runs along the lines of.

- If you get a knock in the box, go down
- If you come under a hard challenge, feign injury in an attempt to get the opponent booked.
- Waste as much time as possible in the dying minutes when we are winning by laying on the ground with a sore leg (1 Metre from the touchline)

I was impressed plenty of positives to take from the game, it'll hurt for a couple of says and then the players will feel that way to. kompany didn't have the best of games either.

He does it to a lot of defenders, but Ronaldo made Kompany look very average on so many occasions last night. I also thought Joe Hart had a very poor game. Yes, he made a few saves, but they were all saves you would expect your goalkeeper to make. He should have done a lot better on the second and third goals. For some reason ITV seemed to think he played a blinder and could do no wrong. He also did himself no favours in his post match interview imo...

What should also happen is any player stuttering his runup should forfeit he spot kick. :)

Rarely the referee puts these rules in to practice.

AFP reports that the as yet unnamed financial institution could replace Emirates as PSG's main shirt sponsor, with the existing commercial deal generating only 3.5m euros per season.
However, the possible new deal, disclosed to AFP by sources within the French football authorities, could net the Ligue 1 side up to 400m euros over four seasons.

A bitter football fan. Debt is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it is serviceable. Using instant wealth to buy immediate success is where my issue is when the funds are not earned through results.

Funds earned through results?

Is that how Man Utd did it through the years?

I thought it was titles and trophies earned through results.

So if Man Utd do worse, does that mean you haven't earned your money?

Utd's debt wasn't serviceable. Its taken a few 'miracles' to get a grip of things but thats alongside the fact that Utd are a massive cash cow.

Football clubs should be run in a responsible manner full stop. Its way too lazy using some form of sugar daddy.

The only way you can ever have a truely even playing field, is if you have every team only allowed to spend the same set amount of money

Broadly speaking, a team gets its money from winning things which can then be invested in the team. Unless the name of the team rhymes with Garsemal.

Thanks.....you've just backed up my point. The debt IS serviceable otherwise United would have gone under by now. The reason they're still going is because, as you say, United's brand is a cash cow.

Wrong on both counts.

Firstly I'm not complaining because we haven't a sugar daddy, Arsenal have 2. We could very easily get Usmanov on the board and have Gazprom bank roll us in sponsorship. I'm not going to now say thats wrong, I don't care about clubs finding ways like sponsorship via ownership connections. Football is heading towards commercial madness and what UEFA have put in place in FFP will only push clubs further that way as it is doing now so to me that fight is pointless but thats exactly it. Stop being lazy and find ways to generate cash. What does need to be implemented is clubs having the ability to survive the next 5-10years, thats tricky. Billionaire owners will not be able to bank roll the club constantly through their own connections. Clubs will have to find other ways like PR, perks, whatever to balance it out. With that then comes responsibility that one has to take running a business. Fans also come in here to make sure the long term is safe, supporter trusts need to be given some form of support from the official. At the moment or what was is just spend silly amounts here there and everywhere with the owners cash, thats irresponsible.

Sponsorships come in on a 5 year contract, that will decrease in the near future just like player contracts of 5 years are slowly dying out. Commercial madness is whats coming which is fine as thats growth overall not growth for a select few even if the top teams gain more monies.. somethings better than nothing.

Your second point of having the same amounts of cash to spend is pointless and indeed dull. What I've posted above is whats to come not this sort of gag.

'Miracles' as you call them happen in any business of that size. I've never been in favour of the Glaziers or how they run the club but if the books have been balanced correctly then no laws have been broken.

You really think a team's only source of income is from winning the league?

That's what you attempted to imply...

i don't think that was a red card offence, poor show by ref, buckling to Man Utd players pressure

Diving in, studs showing. Its a miracle Jonny Evans didn't get his leg broken there. Red card all day long.

I thought he went for the ball, and other leg came behind evans after force of tackle turned him
And i thought evans went in with same force..50-50 ball

Strange as the Sky sports presenters said Evans showed his studs just as much and said he should have gone as well..

I thought it was only at Old Trafford that United can get other players sent off?

Anyway, Jonjo Shelvey will now get a 3-match ban. He'll miss West Brom, Norwich and Stoke. All 3 clubs have appealed to get the ban overturned.

It seems that it isn't only old trafford that Man utd players dive, it was a good one by valencia.

i like a balanced opinion. From the BBC site

Mark in jammy Manchester via text: "Speaking as a United season ticket holder, we were as jammy as a jam doughnut covered in extra jam and sitting on a bed of jam."

:D

We still won though ;) You seem to think that you have to be unlucky to be able to win a game

Good result really. Kind of feel we could have won it. However getting a draw at the home of the Champions is quite good. We've now played Stoke, Liverpool and City away now.

I thought Jenkinson played well. When he first got into the team i didn't rate him at all, but he has improved a lot recently.
