Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Bit of a poor bill last night; advertised to start at 7 but didn't begin 'til 8 and all the fights a bit lacklustre (it seemed all the opponents were late additions/replacements) - the Gavin/Vassell fight was a good un though. Also Buncy kept on saying 6 live fights and we only got 5...

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
I'm looking forward to Gavin Rees Vs. Anthony Crolla. Should be a mini war. I really like both fighters. At 33, following a bashing defeat, I'm not too sure how much Gavin Rees has left or how much he really wants it. I'm going for a Crolla win. As for Smith Vs. Dodson II I have no interest at all. Their first fight 3 years ago was poor. I actually thought Dodson was finished back then.
The undercard from the States doesn't excite me either. I can't see anything other than a Golovkin stoppage. Still it's good to see SKY putting in an all night shift. We could end up seeing 10 fights! |

Live boxing this Friday on Eurosport from Romania.
German heavyweight Christian Hammer defends his WBO European Heavyweight Title against Dane Leif Larsen. Sadly the undercard features British punchbag Danny Williams. Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Eddie Hearn Tweeted earlier:
"Great news! FOUR big International fight cards coming to @skysports in September and October to be announced early next week!" I get the impression these are not shows that have already been confirmed i.e. Burns Vs. Beltran. Sounds interesting. If you take into account fights already confirmed for B0xnation, and B0xnations Golden Boy deal, I think the 4 shows are: 28th September - Tavoris Cloud Vs. Adonis Stevenson 05th October - Wladimir Klitschko Vs. Alexander Povetkin 12th October - Timothy Bradley Vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 19th October - Mike Alvarado Vs. Ruslan Provodnikov Is there a possibility that SKY have agreed a deal with Top Rank or even HBO? |

"It was announced today that Frank Warren, his sons George and Francis' company Queensberry Promotions and Bill Ives, one of Britain's leading businessmen, have signed an exclusive agreement to create a powerful, new, promotional organisation. The combination of the promotional powerhouse that is Frank Warren and the business acumen and financial investment of steel tycoon Bill Ives is designed to take boxing promotion in the UK to a new level." "Frank Warren said, "I'm looking forward to this exciting new venture with Bill and my sons. We have in place a fantastic team with great boxers and with this significant investment we will continue to develop the best young talent into champions and household names and stage the biggest events. As a result of this new partnership, and due to the substantial amounts of money being owed to W. Promotions, I will now place W. Promotions into voluntary administration." "Further announcements will be made in due course regarding major new signings and world title matches." Here is a video of the announcement on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSpKLEM5cMU However one thing that worries me is: "BoxNation will be the primary outlet for the Queensberry Promotions events and the partners believe that this will accelerate the growth of the channel, which has already proved highly popular and has a large and growing customer base." What do they mean primary outlet? Surely everything will be on Boxnation unless they are going down the PPV route or even some kind of deal with BT Sport. |

I'm more confident than ever that Boxnation HD will be launching soon! Everything has apparently been tested behind the scenes, and deals put in place, Boxnation just needed the correct funding to allow them to push on. Bill Ives is suggested to be worth £266 million! I'm not sure how much he will invest into this promotion venture however this could be the start of something massive for British boxing, and Boxnation. |

I'm waiting to see the channel bear fruit from the Bill Ives / Rainham Steel investment. Whilst Boxnation have deals to show Jamie McDonnell, Carl Frampton and Amir Khan Frank Warrens stable of established exciting fighters has been stripped right back. No disrespect meant to these guys but Dereck Chisora, Nathan Cleverly, Enzo Maccarinelli, Paul Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, Liam Smith and Frankie Gavin don't get me super excited. Matchroom are set to announce further talent acquisition next week. Stephen Smith and David Price are both rumored. Boxnation and Frank Warren really need to up their game. They simply aren't competing in terms of UK shows and general quality of production. Their deal with Goldenboy only has about 6 months to run. Imagine if SKY or BT swoop in and agree a new deal with Goldenboy ahead of Boxnation? I think that would be curtains for the channel. |

Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Can I ask Box Nation fans if the channel negotiations went well before it came to VM.
It might shed some light as to why there is such anger and angst by some over PS not accepting a similar berth in a Premier channel spot? |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Quote:
Everything seemed to be straight forward. Boxnation launched about 3 months earlier on SKY and was free to air during that period. It didn't come to Virgin Media until 3rd December 2011 which was the day the channel encrypted and became a subscription based service. Frank Warren and Boxnation confirmed from day 1 that it was their intention to get the channel on the Virgin Media platform. I have no idea how or why Premier Sports are having such a difficult time trying to get their channel onto the Virgin Media platform. Boxnation Chairman Richard Brooke and Boxnation Chief Executive Simon Green had both previously worked for SKY and Setanta Sports. Maybe they know how the pay TV game works a little better than the guys running the show at Premier Sports. |
Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
Chad thanks for that. This is what I suspected that PS are imo wrong to be so awkward. If their product is as good as they and others say they should come onto VM and see who subscribes.
Box Nation I assume are doing ok from being a Premier channel on platforms including VM? Sorry PS but you should have followed Box Nation's example it seems.... |

Nice little announcement today from Boxnation regarding midweek boxing on the channel.
"BOXNATION once again proves it's the only place for weeknight boxing as we've signed a deal to bring you the entire hit Golden Boy on Fox series. It starts this Wednesday night at 7pm with the latest instalment of this fantastic US series, where hot prospect Jermell Charlo puts his 21-0 record on the line against veteran Jose Angel Rodriguez." Re: BoxNation on Virgin Media?
The impression given through out the year by Frank Warren was that a HD channel would be up and running by the end of the year. This article however suggests it's not even close to launching:
http://www.newsuk24.com/news/frank-w...c-bout/related "SPORTS PROMOTER Frank Warren plans to float Box Nation, the cable television station devoted to boxing that he set up two years ago. Nation Media, the channel’s parent company, hopes to raise about £5m from an AIM listing to fund expansion overseas, buy the rights to more events and create a high-definition version of the station. It is run by Richard Brooke, who was finance director at BSkyB." Worrying that they need to raise money in order to launch. |

https://twitter.com/HistoryOfBoxing Proving to be fun so far. I downloaded a delay Tweet app which Tweets at specific times and dates. Currently populating it with boxing birthdays, boxing deaths, boxing results from years gone by plus other little facts and points of interest. Trying to make sure it's as accurate as possible by cross referencing the information posted with at least 2 other sources. Just a bit of fun really to keep me busy over the holiday period. A few days of setting up the delayed Tweets will keep the feed running by itself all year! I'm trying to make sure any boxers who are mentioned get copied into the Tweet. Steve Cunningham was on like a shot when I posted he was beat by Adamek on this date last year :) |
