To be honest, if I didn't watch sports, I'd probably drop HD too

But sports in HD is a deal breaker, as it does make a difference (at least to me)

Films etc, I could live with standard

Ofcom says BSkyB 'fit and proper' but James Murdoch criticised

Quote:

UK media regulator Ofcom has concluded that BSkyB is a "fit and proper" company to hold a broadcasting licence. Ofcom was investigating the broadcaster in the wake of the phone hacking scandal that engulfed Rupert Murdoch's media empire, which owns 39% of BSkyB. However, Ofcom has criticised former BSkyB chairman James Murdoch, Rupert's son, for his role in the scandal.

The new EPG has been updated:

- Anytime has become "On Demand", and has a "Catch Up" tab with spaces for iPlayer etc. (still only ITV Player actually up and running at the moment I think though)

- The Planner now has a "Deleted" tab, so that you can undelete things. Anything deleted goes into the Deleted tab (like a Recycle Bin), and does not take up reported space in the user partition. The oldest deleted items are automatically removed when the box needs the space.

Still Amstrad 890 / 895 only so far. If you have an Amstrad box and it doesn't have the update, it is now available as a forced download if you can't wait for the roll-out.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

Version 4.1 of the Sky+ iPad app is now available to download from the App Store! :)

Other than (so far) fixing the iOS6 freezing, it adds two new things:

1) Suggestions for when programmes you want to record clash with each other. You can also set the number of feeds your box has, as that would obviously affect clashing.

2) "Discover More". This is the zeebox integration mentioned some time ago. If you bring up a programme in the guide, you can select "Discover More" to bring up more info on it, with options to find out more about the cast members and visit related links. It also has Twitter integration if you'd like to post about something from within the app.

I doubt that it will be, though.

At the moment it is only the iPad app that has the planner features, the iPhone one just has the guide plus remote record.

As it would seem that Sky is currently concentrating on tablets, then it makes some sense that it has not brought the features to Android yet.

Android may rule the smartphone market, but the iPad is still king when it comes to tablets. It sells more than all other tablets combined, and its share is actually increasing.

Fragmentation is also a far bigger problem with Android than iOS, due to a wide variety of hardware specs to cater for and a wide variety of OS versions to cater for. What specs should the app work be tested on? What OS version? Go for the old yet still popular Gingerbread (57.5%)? Honeycomb, the first Android tablet OS (2.1%)? Ice Cream Sandwich, the first version to bring together phone and tablet (20.9%)? Or Jelly Bean, the latest version (1.2%)? (Android version distribution: http://developer.android.com/about/d...rds/index.html ).

Haven't been around these parts for a while so I'm feeling a little out of the loop! :(

The 2TB box has just been launched, what is the price for existing customers?

Do we know anymore about the shared planner functionality - release dates, UI screenshots or videos of it in action?

I know the iPad app has been updated - does this include planner management & Zeebox integration?

Sorry for all the questions but I've got a lot of news to catch up on! :D

The 2TB box is actually a 1.5TB (personal space) 500gb On Demand it allows 350hrs HD recording time , I believe the price to existing customers is £149 however many have reported on the forums getting deals.

The new iPad app includes planner management including clash management plus Zeebox integration and will be available very soon on the iPhone ;)

Shared planner , no news yet however many on the forums have said its due to start testing later on this year.

I take it you have catchup on your box now ?

Thanks MM, I've missed your Sky knowledge! :D

What kind of deals are we talking about for the new box? I'd like to get one for when the shared planner arrives so I can still access all the content from my current 1TB & 500GB boxes. This would also give me a tasty 3TB of recording space! :)

Having access to the planner whilst out about about on the iPhone would be ideal, how does the clash management UI work? Do you have any links to videos or pictures?

Yeah, I've had catch up TV and undelete on my box for some time now, a very welcome addition.

There's a video now in the showcase section of On Demand titled Sky+ gets better showing the new features including iPad app.

Exclusive: Sky to offer Premier League on Now TV next month

UK pay TV operator BSkyB will offer live Premier League football matches on its internet TV service Now TV by the end of November, DTVE understands.

DTVE understands that Now TV will offer access to sports coverage, including football and Formula 1, for less than £10 (€12.50) per day.

Sounds like they could offer some kind of day pass although £10 a day seems pricey considering a Sky Sports sub is only £21.00 a month.

Looking at it from a unbiased point of view £10 a day is utterly laughable as there is not a hope in hell of customers paying that price and one has to wonder when they offer Sky Atlantic how much are they going to ask for that as well.:td:

I agree however let's wait and see until the info is confirmed through official channels.

If the information is accurate it's almost like they're turning SKY Sports in a PPV service. Although £10.00 sounds steep, there would be a market for it. Last year when SKY had exclusive rights to Rangers Vs. Celtic the pubs where I live where packed with fans who didn't have SKY at home. If they had the option to watch the game at home for £10.00 it wouldn't surprise me to see 4 or 5 mates splitting the cost of everything and enjoying the game at home i.e. £10 PPV, some beers and snacks.

There is a suggestion that SKY are the favourites to show Ricky Hattons comeback fight at the end of November. If the event is shown on SKY Sports, and this £10.00 for 24 hours access to SKY Sports is in place, you might find this will be a massive success for SKY. It's cheaper than their usual PPV price of £15.00, and for the first time it'll be available to a massive audience by way of various devices that support Now TV including Youview.

Great news, just goes to show that all Sky's innovation in the TV space is paying off for them. Sky Go is a very nice, free addition to my Sky subscription. :)

Yes indeed but they must be extremely careful in the next few years as overprice your goods too much and people will just decide enough is enough and go elsewhere to get their entertainment at a cheaper price.

Sky customers pay £21.00 , I wouldn't be happy paying £25.75 for Sky Sports especially with only two of the channels in HD and not all events available on the red button.

It's something that's never crossed my mind but I noticed DirecTV were touting 'upto 100 series links' as a feature on their new DVR.

Now at the moment I've got around 30 series links set up but with the shared planner due soon, having access to a potential 6 tuners I can see this number rising rapidly.

I know that TiVo advertise 'unlimited season passes' but I can't seem to find any information on Sky+HD.

I'm sure there'll be no issue with this :)

Surely each box will be able to set so many S/L , you have 3 so shouldn't be an issue.

Yes, of course MM. I was forgetting that key detail! :dunce:

It would still be interesting to know if there is any hard limit though, just to appease my curiosity. :D

You worry too much mate , I can't see it being an issue at all , I'm thinking of upgrading one of my Sky+HD boxes to the 2TB when my contracts due in the new year.

Your issue will be time..to watch them all..and space to save because you can't watch it all :D

There must be a limit, because it has to store them in a finite memory. But the limit is probably so high it's not worth worrying about.

Yeah, I'm planning on doing the same for when the Shared planner feature does launch. I need to order a couple of the £10 wifi adapters as well so that I'm all prepared.

You're no doubt right Spiderplant but that makes DirecTV's marketing of their HD, 5 Tuner DVR all the more puzzling...

Isn't the DirecTV one the setup where you have the 'master' box and then 'slave' boxes around the home? If you had a household of 5 people (which I am sure was the limit if I am correct with the company), 20 each seems pants for a company of their size.

A quick Google says that their previous boxes only support 50. So they think the increase to 100 is worth shouting about.
