Why would they need to get rid of them for bandwidth anyway, sky has loads of bandwidth, so does virgin and any new channels on freeview hd would need a new mux unless they are planning to make the video quality even worse for freeview hd and have 5 channels on 1 mux instead of 4.

analog will be switched off in around 12 months anyway, so i don't see why the red button needs to go other than cutting costs.

I'm sure they'll show the Wimbledon matches elsewhere, I can't see them just dropping coverage of however many matches.

The BBC could be looking at more HD output, as it has started to leak out that Ofcom is releasing more spectrum to Freeview over the next 5 years.

C21: BBC may drop Red Button to make room to launch more HD Channels.

The following is from the C21 Media web site:

http://www.c21media.net/

Isn't this just the Freeview service losing the red button? There's no need to affect Sky or VM viewers is there?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcintern...sat_astra.html
In short, the BBC are to reduce the number of red button streams to five due to the closure of one of the satellite transponders the BBC uses and squeezing everything else into the remaining transponders that have a tight footprint on the UK. Virgin need to make some 'technical changes' as they recieve all SD broadcasts from the Astra satellites.
There is meention that one of the 'mosaic' multiscreens is being culled but news multiscreen is safe, so it may be the sport multiscreen is canned or suspended if other events (say multiple coverage of proms in the park) needs it.

Now that is good news!!

Hopefully the change will be automatic and our second TiVo and VHD boxes will automatically have the change made.

Definitely a good move and represents terrific added value for those with multiple HD boxes.

Virgin/Sky may actually get more takers for the £7 when it is per account.

I hope the premium HD automatically gets added to our 2nd/3rd etc boxes and it's not a case of us customers having to ring in and hope the CS knows this is now the norm rather than ringing upon ringing to get a CS who knows about it.

I can confirm the charge is being dropped, but I'd wait for VM to communicate it to customers, as they will advise how it will be implimented.

I'm sure it will be automatic, but we haven't been told any more at the moment.

Is there gonna be ne more sky things happening @ the same time IE sky anytime ? sky atlantic hd? u never know apparantly there are contractual changes? ne idea ne one.

just been looking @ the channel lists on the differance between l and xl tv and basically xl is +1 channels and hd the more that keeps getting moved into L package, makes XL look less worth while, Has it only seems to be xl tv gets the price increases cant the price increase go on to L tv as well seen has they are getting more channels aswell that will give more money for the hd channels we want

I have only been told what I have posted on this thread - I think Food Network and Good Food will become an Free-to-Air Channel called Food Network moving to the M Package over time.

Also Food Network HD is not even broadcasting in the UK and Ireland yet.

Before anyone asks none of my insiders know of any launch date for Eden HD and Good Food HD yet.

There is no uk regulatory clearance this time for UKTV sale

I meant the UKTV deal. Just because it was announced on whatever date it was doesn't mean that was the date (or anywhere near the date) that they actually signed it.

I see Sky have placed Sky Atlantic in their Variety pack from Sep. Obviously now it's no longer free to all Sky Customers and they seem to have stopped advertising about it's exclusivity, anyone have any details if it will come to VM?

Could be a good time to launch with the TiVo updates and Sky Anytime. I would imagine that Sky may want to give it to VM now to increase their advertising revenues so will hopefully negotiate a reasonable carriage cost now.

I think Sky's Variety pack is taken by the vast majority of Sky customers, so it's only a few who will be missing Atlantic. It would be great to get Atlantic on VM now, even if it was just SD.

With a number of HD channels under never-ending negotiation to be on VM TV platform, I have to ask the following question. When are the SD counterparts contract up for renewal eg History?

Why, are VM trying to buy both variants of these channels under one negotiation!

Erm... unless I'm missing something, isn't Sky Anytime already available?
Admittedly, it only has content from Sky Living, but it's there.
Clarification?

Why does this sound like a possible nightmare when it comes to all the series links and wishlists on the TIVO. The EPG data is bad enough at times, but if this happens I think "Tribune" will go into meltdown.

Channels are seen as unique seriel numbers. TiVo and V+HD series links will be unaffected by any channel moves. :)
