Homeland has been renewed for season 8 and is cancelled/will be ending. The next season will be the final season. It is good when they know in advance because it gives them chance to write the entire season properly and give the characters a fitting ending. I will like to see Saul and director of the CIA and Carrie in a fitting position.

I`ve enjoyed watching this program but of late it has got a little tedious and so I think now is the time to end it.

yeah I know what you mean. It needs to go back to its core with Carrie working at the CIA and actually being in a position to do something about things she discovers. I think season 8 will be a fitting end by the sound of things. The way the last episode ended makes you think Carrie is going into the intelligence business and things will probably end favourably for her at the end of this season and continue into the next season:

Quote:

Earlier this week, star Claire Danes confirmed the next season of the political drama will be the last. The Showtime series also stars includes Mandy Patinkin, Elizabeth Marvel, Linus Roache, Maury Sterling, and Jake Weber.
Speaking to EW, Gansa revealed the final season of Homeland will take place overseas:

“[Season 7 arranges] all the pieces on the chessboard to make that a proper finale for the story we’ve been telling. We get to play this last season in D.C with the intention of taking us overseas for one last chapter. Season 8 will be overseas somewhere. We get to play a story with larger national stakes in season 7 and we’ll go back to a smaller intelligence-based season in 8. We get to pull out all the stops this year and then get to the emotional heart of things in season 8.”

And what’s Carrie doing? Gansa says there will be a time jump between seasons seven and eight:

“We’re going to start fresh in season 8 and probably do a fairly big time jump between 7 and 8 and put any Trump parallels behind us. We’ll tell a very contained story, hopefully in Israel.”

I think the HBO execs are hoping that if they renew it early enough they'll be able to start filming asap and have another season next year without having a whole year gap again. Tbh knowing how awesome this is I don't understand why they don't renew it for another 3 seasons now so everyone knows what they are doing. SFX did an interview with the producers when it came out and I can remember them saying that they have got a 5 year story arc already planned out.

Going back to what we were talking about a couple of days ago, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan tv series which debuts in August (i.e. first season) has already been renewed for a second season and it hasn't even aired yet. They are in discussion for season 13 of Big Bang Theory. It has already been renewed for season 12 and they are now looking beyond that. I assumed it was because Young Sheldon wasn't doing as well as they had hoped (I don't watch it) but the viewing figures for both series are rock solid at 14 million and 13 respectively, taking the No1 and 2 spots for CBS in the US, and Big Bang is only showing a 0.5% decrease in Year on Year viewers so it is still going well. I can't wait to see the news on the pay rises the cast get to keep them in it.

I can understand why SyFy would pass with that restriction. Even a couple of years down the line, streaming is now key to a lot of TV.

At least that would mean everyone will get it at the same time. Can't work out why it turns up so late on Netflix outside the US, when Discovery ended up pretty much aligned to the US schedule.

Strange that SyFy didnt just ask to update their deal rather than pass on it completely.

Unlike Dark Matter, I'm more hopeful someone else will pick this up, since Alcon completely finance it, and just sell it on.

Unsure if posted but Inhumans got its official cancellation.

Its looking increasingly likely that Agents of Shield is ending this season. The writers did say they created this seasons final episode as a series finale if necessary. Be a shame too because it's only gotten better over time.

Arrow is having a last throw of the dice too by the looks of it, new showrunner for next season, it had built up a decent line of episodes until the latest in which it undoes all that work in 45 minutes. A poor start to the next season should probably see it cancelled. Not the worst thing though with a shared universe, Oliver Queen can pretty much show up in Legends and Flash whenever to continue his character. The prime show however has just turned into crap. Had an excellent two seasons and a half decent third.

Inhumans was dead long ago, even if the official nail only hit a few hours ago.

SHIELD is an odd one, ABC have announced a long string of cancellations, yet they have not included it among them. I suspect things are still being discussed between them and Disney (who reportedly ordered the current season). With Inhumans being dead, this is their only MCU based TV series.

Arrow - I'm not suprised they renewed it, but its definitely not as good as the early seasons. Its bottom of my list when I rank the four "Arrowverse" series.

I loved the last episode with all the Avenger references, it just makes the whole universe more enjoyable and real. The sad thing is that from a timeline point of view I don't understand (and especially as they are referencing it) how they are going to get past the Thanos incident on earth if they do another season because anything they do (even if it is another time jump) is going to supersede the next Avengers movie unless they deliberately change the air date to a summer series next year instead of a fall series this year. I loved it when seasons 1 and 2 directly tied into the movies and I would love to see it happen at the end of this season as well. They can be just about to get Talbot and all of a sudden they start disappearing. They can let Avengers 4 resolve the disappearing characters story and why they come back and then the next season of AoS can pick up from there.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Quote:

Maybe the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division rigged this one. Despite ratings similar to those that saw Once Upon a Time cancelled, ABC has renewed its Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD TV show for a sixth season.

The fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is averaging a 0.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.08 million viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 28% in the demo and down by 11% in viewers. Find out how Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD stacks up against other ABC TV shows.

Word is that the sixth season renewal came down to the wire. While the show is weak in traditional ratings, it does well in DVR viewing and is a strong seller internationally. It also helps to keep the Marvel brand in front of audiences and the network didn’t have any new Marvel shows in development for next season. Marvel’s Inhuman’s was cancelled last week.

There’s no word yet on how many episodes will be ordered or if Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will air on Friday nights once again next season.
I am overjoyed. I knew they would do the right thing out of respect for Marvel and the brand. The renewal will allow them to write a quality story arc befitting of the final season and pay homage to the characters and the franchise. This is how you do things properly and I can't wait. If any series deserves a fitting goodbye it is this one.

As noted by Kabaal, they have ordered 13 episodes (atm anyway).

This is not surprising, not just for its ratings, but becuase they struggled to fit 22 episodes in this year, they had few options for any breaks.

It should be noted that they have not said this is the final season, and assuming it doesnt do badly, it could yet get a 7th season (look at Elementary, that almost died, yet ended up with an extended 6th season, and renewed again for a 7th).

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

I'm following speculation and now follow the theory that Disney want to see Agents of Shield out until the Secret Invasion storyline debuts across the marvel films (Cpt Marvel) Upon which there's maybe a possibility we'll see Agents of Shield rebooted as Secret Warriors and likely on another network or Netflix.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret...s_(Team_White)

This does actually tie in with Cpt Marvel, and also reflects the push as leader that Daisy Johnson is also getting on Agents. We did have soft versions of the team in an earlier season.

As I suspected:

When ABC renewed Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD TV show for a sixth season, it was for a reduced order of 13 episodes. Now, we have a little bit more bad news — not cancellation bad, just not great from the fans’ perspective. We will have to wait until the summer of 2019 for the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season six to premiere.

Indeed, as fully expected, it had to be after the events of Infinity War are fixed.

I'm sure I commented somewhere before that AOS was used as an infil between cinema releases.

Still no news on Timeless (so it least its not been instantly cancelled).

After renewing iZombie last week, CW has announced that the show is now also cancelled, meaning next years Season 5 will be the last season.

At the same time it announced that Jane The Virgin & Crazy Ex-Girlfriend were similarly cancelled, meaning their next seasons will also be their last.

At least it gives the writers the opportunity to wind the story line up.

An interesting take on AOS from one of the writers.

Indeed it does - While I would prefer all my shows never be cancelled, at least if they know in advance they can wind them up properly, not leave you on never resolved cliff hangers.

If only all networks did the same. Fans would be much happier.

yeah, I was very proud to be part of the Jericho movement, it was revolutionary at the time.

Gutted iZombie will be cancelled but at least we know in advance and they can do the ending justice, unlike some shows that get cancelled after finishing on a cliff hanger, expecting an other season.

Appears its not quite that yet. By the sounds of that. The potential deal may hang on a resurgence of viewing figures. Not much we can do on that front as we're Netflix

That last bit brings in some dilemma then. Any idea how long Netflix hold a licence to broadcast it? Whether it becomes void if its pitched elsewhere and so on, based on the assumption Amazon would want it exclusively on Prime everywhere else too.

Just need someone to pickup Lucifer, and Timeless to be renewed.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

There's headway into a Lucifer renewal, no real idea of who with. Doubt it's the CW now, they originally distances themselves and given they hold numerous Warner Bros IP's over the arrowverse, they'd have done this deal by now.

ABC cancelled Rosanne's new (re-make of old) show due to some derogatory comments from Rosanne herself:

Not sure if I have put this in the right place or not as I have not been aware if it was aired in the UK or not. (Apologies if I have put this in the wrong place).

Freeform has cancelled Shadowhunters.

Shadowhunters will conclude its third season with a 12-episode run, finishing with a 2-hour series finale in Spring 2019.

Not really, it improved a bit in the second season but the writing is still pretty naff most of the time and most of the main cast should probably have chosen a profession other than acting. There will probably be the usual petitions to save it by fans of the books but other than them i doubt many people will be that upset to see it go.

Netflix have basically cancelled The Defenders, stating there are no plans for a Season 2.

General Maximus 07-06-2018 22:45

Re: Renewals & Cancellations

Well i was expecting one for a while. I thought it would go in phases like the marvel movies and i was expecting another season of luke cage, daredevil and iron fist before season 2 of The Defenders. I loved how the story followed on and i am looking forward to seeing what gets set in motion this time round.

It took a while, but Timeless has now been cancelled.

They are still talking about a 2 hour "movie" to wrap up the cliff hanger, but no more news on that atm.
