I understand under the terms its a 'new 12month contract' with a new product. But surely they should just match what youve already got....

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Phewwwww, epic phone call even by virgins standards!!! 1hr and 25 minutes!!!!!

But I think it is finally sorted!!! Install next Thursday, and the problem was? All i wanted to do was to downgrade my BB from 50 to 30 and to then keep the 2 boxes I already have and have the Tivo as a 3rd, but also wanted to swap the V box to a V HD box, which I hoped they would do free!!!!

Offshore call ctr could not do the downgrade, Grrrrr, had to call CS first to get this done, then call back to order Tivo!!!! Trying to get them to do the free HD box was a nightmare!! They agreed to call CS on my behalf to get cost refunded, but when I asked for them to put this in writing in an email they refused (I have played this game with them before, so always get a confirmation email from them if I can now), after lots of "discussion" and being told no managers were avliable as asked for an email with the managers names on it, this was also refused!!!!!!

So I asked for a recording of the call!!!! When I asked for this suddenly they were able to credit my account with the cost of the HD box upgrade!!!

Remains to be seen if it will all happen as it should!!!! Experience tells me it wont though!!

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Amazing the different experiences....

I called this lunchtime, got through to Manila, and when I explained that I wanted to order the TiVo box, swapping the V box for the TiVo and moving the V+ to where the current V box is, they asked if I would mind if they transferred me to a colleague.

I was then txfr'ed to a Scottish gentleman, to whom I explained what my requirements were, who said he was sorry, but he would have to txfr me to the TiVo team (who turned out to also be of the Scottish persuasion).

I took this guy through my requirements, explained my insistence on confirmation of no loss of discount (due to the previous Superhub misunderstanding), which he confirmed, giving me his name, and I went online and booked the upgrade.

He advised me when I got the confirmation email to ring back to confirm the V box swap out (better to be safe than sorry, he said), which I agreed to.

The whole process took about fifteen minutes, with very little stress.

I lost my discount but I was expecting to. When I arranged the discount I was on VIP20 but think I basically came off it when they applied the discounts as they took away a few of the small bits like Talk International and Talk Mobile. So going to VIP 50 cost me an extra 56p than what my existing packing with Tivo would have cost.

So in all the discount worked out worse than the VIP50 package itself so there was no point me keeping it lol.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

All you Virgin customers complaining about Tivo, and the way it has been rolled out. Should spare a thought for us non paying customers.

I've been stealing services since the days of analogue with a device attached to the Jerrod stb. What do the cable company do, switch to digital.

Now I have to buy another box off my supplier, this keeps going off and I have to pay him more money to get it working again. Then he tells me he can get me a box that automatically resets when they muck about with the encryption. Costs more money though. So I buy one of these.
What do Virgin do issue new cards and change to N3 new box won't work.

My canny supplier (who by now is now driving in a brand new Jag) tells me there is a new way to steal off Virgin, but I need to get a another box, more money  This one wont do HD though so the 50" plasma I bought off a mate down the pub can't show off it's full potential to the lads when they come round to watch the footy.

Then I heard about Tivo. I asked my supplier when will this be available on the box I've just bought (which by the way has just gone off and my supplier doesn't know when it will be back on) he said never!

So Virgin media I've had enough you have lost a long time non paying customer. I'm off to card share on sky. My supplier says he has just the box I need for a small charge of course. :D

Well after yestarday's issue around mates rate discount - I received a phone call from CS stating I was mis-informed and that my mates rate discount will not be effected - she said that the sales teams have been informed of this and that any current discounts will be honored - she said all your doing is upgrading one of your boxes to a tivo box and extending your contract by another 12 months.

Based on this I have now ordered my TIVO box 18th April install and they also offered to have TIVO as main box and swap my VHD box with the V+ box upstairs for not extra cost and no extra monthly charge.

A cracking deal - I now have TIVO and a V+ Box for a 2nd box, can not waite for TIVO box.

Thanks for those who provided TIVO Spec details

Nope - I haven't received an email yet either and I'm VIP 50

However confession time - I have to hold my hand up and say I gave in and called the 800 number and have got two boxes ordered. On VIP50 with the 2nd box as a V+, so was paying 110.55 a month. Going to two TiVo boxes dropped that £10 so hubby decided he wanted HD on the 2nd TiVo. Huge hit on the up front costs, but monthly total 107.55 - so £3 less than we were originally paying.

I do feel slightly guilty for ordering before getting the email, but it's one of the very few times in my life I haven't followed the rules :(

Was offered install for Wednesday, Thurs or Fri. Have app'ts on Wed and Thurs, plus about 40 hours of TV to watch/download off the current V+'s so opted for Friday.

When I called it said 30min holding time then rang straight through to a live person. She was very helpful, not sure which call centre, but could have been Manilla. She new exactly what she was on about - all correct prices and options offered, and relatively quick and painless aside from the fact her computer froze for about 10 minutes in the midst of everything.

So feeling sort of guilty, but very happy that we'll have ours very soon!!

Wonder how long it will take for the email to arrive.

Can someone please help me out anout payment for the box.

I have got mine coming on April 20th and my bill is sue out on April 18th so will the box go on that bill or my next one on May 18th?

Im just very worried about going over my credit limit as that will happen if my bill comes out on Monday then on wednesday when Tivo comes the fee goes onto my account.

I did ask the sales girl but i could not understand what she was on about but what i could make out was that Virgin up your credit limit for box then it goes back to normal credit limit.

can anyone please shed any light onto this please as i wont be very happy if on Wednesday when it comes i cant use it as it would have taken me over my credit limit.

Also when the guy comes to install it is it a case of taking old box out and just plugging Tivo in or will he have to do anything more?

I haven't received a confirmation email either. I've phoned CS twice and been told it can take up to 48hrs to get confirmation and that they've had 34,000 installation requests, so they have no idea what date I will get for installation. Yet I look on here and see so many others have an installation date sorted out, so not really sure what is going on. I replied to my email early yesterday morning as soon as I received it

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

While I've got my install booked for next Wednesday afternoon, I did try following up afterwards to see if I could upgrade to VIP50 (currently on VIP20) - so that the broadband side of things could be done on the same afternoon (ie: superhub install).

Unfortunately they weren't able to attach to the current work order(?), and they would have had to cancel the current TiVo install and re-book everything - which was a bit of a pain, as I'd already booked the afternoon off. Their suggestion was to phone up and sort VIP50 out once TiVo was up and running.

So the moral of this story is to decide whether you want to upgrade to VIP50 before phoning for your TiVo install.. not after! :dunce:

No confirmation here either. Like you, I'm a bit concerned that so many have their installation dates and they still seem to be giving out earlier dates to those that manage to order by phone. As I wasn't allowed to order on the phone due to the fact that the account is in my husband's name (even though I AM authorised on the account) I'll be very disappointed if I don't get the install date I requested.
Alternatively - as my husband is actually home all day today - wondering whether I should cancel the online order and order by phone today - feel that I'm more likely to get a confirmed install date this way?

I phoned faults because all of my services have been down since 11pm last night, I then asked if I could be put through to CS so I could ask when I might receive my Tivo email. Got through to a scottish bloke and he told me it could arrive anytime between now and the end of this month. I said I thought it was supposed to be this week, which he said it was suppose to be but its taken longer than expected to get through the list. He also said its being done in order of when you registered. Does this info sound right? I'll just have to wait I suppose.

I received my long awaited email on Tuesday morning after pre-registering very early. I completed the on-line ordering and booked an install slot but still have not received the confirmation email that the web page said would be send immediately. Looks like I'm going to have to call CS and quote the order number to double check the install IS really booked for my first requested slot. If it helps anyone, the FIRST install date I was given was Sat 23rd April, for an on-line order on the 12th.
I think other people that called CS and didn't wait for the email have been given earlier slots than me, but hey that's what you get for waiting like I did. You snooze you lose, I guess.

I gave up waiting for the e-mail, still not got it (I'm on triple XL). Phoned up on Monday and bluffed my way through the call centre, TiVo getting installed tomorrow, woohoo!!

I moved house in December and jumped ship from Sky to VM to get TiVo as it was 'coming soon', just got frustrated waiting around while others were getting install dates.

What I would like to know is if anybody has any info on when the iPad app will be available, or are we in the 'coming soon' waiting game again, with no real date in sight.

Thanks

According to CS, the confirmation emails can take anything up to 48 hours to be sent out. So make a note of the Order Number on the TiVo ordering web page or print the on-screen confirmation before you close the web page!

I got my email yesterday. The earliest date I could get online was the 23rd which unfotrunately is the day I head off for a week so I have booked the instal for a week after that. Reading all the posts about quick installs here I am wondering if it is worth giving them a call to see if they can offer me an earlier date than I could get online. Getting it installed before I go away would be nice.

If they have told you between what time you should receive a call from the engineer on the day to say that they will be there at so and so time ( they did it this way with me ).

A 'Well done' has to go to VM for that, in staying away from Sky type pricing, such as HD, where it is charged per box.

OK just had my TIVO installed all good...

Until I noticed you have to exactly in-front of the box, for the remote to work.

If you Sofa is off at angle then the remote does not work unless you are point from the sweet spot. (for me leaning forward alot)

Never had this problem with my V+ and other cable boxes before.... :-(

Until I noticed you have to exactly in-front of the box, for the remote to work.

If you Sofa is off at angle then the remote does not work unless you are point from the sweet spot. (for me leaning forward alot)

Never had this problem with my V+ and other cable boxes before.... :-(

Just try pointing it generally downwards at a slight angle in the direction of the box as this works for me:D

no glass, in a stand but the sensor appears to be at the front of the box with a clear path to the remote.

Another question any know how to program the Tivo remote for TV volume?

Do I take it that you are not able to transfer recordings onto another dvd recorder, a useful feature of the existing V+, when you want to archive precious recordings. Yes I know Tivo has an enormous hard disk, but what happens if for any reason you have to re-format or change your Tivo box??

You can transfer them but you have to watch them at the same time as it has not got the background feature that the V+ has.

That's a very good point - not seen that raised before.

Your recordings aren't the only things at risk from a unit failure - what about wishlists, series links and all the rest of the TiVo "intelligence". Is that backed up remotely, or are you back to square 1 after a box swap?

same thing happened to me this morning, I phoned CS to check when installation is (after ordering via link on mail yesterday), they put me through to Manila who were insisting I would have to upgrade to 50Mb broadband and pay installation charge

Getting my TiVo install next Wednesday.

Just had a thought (dangerous that!!). I have the Sky HD channels on my V+, which is getting relocated to a bedroom. I want the HD on the TiVo instead, but when is the right time to go about arranging that HD swap (V+ to TiVo). Is it in advance or when the tech comes to install?

Cheers

You could call up and ask for them to be changed when the TIVO is installed or the engineer should be able to call up to get them changed over for you.

My understanding is that TiVo will NOT be available to customers on the FREE TV M.

It will, at some stage, be available to TV M+ and TV L customers - the charge will be £8 per month, however, not the £3 per month that TV XL customers enjoy.

Thanks Ben,
But my concern is that so many people who booked online seem to have been offered/selected 23rd April - so does that mean if they can't install on that date that we'll be offered installations later than the 23rd? That causes major problems for me as I am a freelance designer who has a pile of work the week after Easter. Had really hoped to get an installation date next week when things were quieter, but due to very poor service on the telephones, they wouldn't let me order despite me being an authorised user on my husband's account.
Have been patient through all of this, but now I'm not happy.

Thats the thing with forums, we know too much! :)

On saying that though, I do hope that those booking online are being given as much priority as those breaking the rules and phoning up - it would not be fair if they get priority because they phoned in.

I booked on line yesturday my original install was 28th april..i didnt get a conformation email so i rang this morning and now iam getting an install on the 19th.

So i cant see why iam braking the rules if virgin say the will send a confirmation email they should sent one.

So i rang and told them hows that breaking the rules if anything virgin are.

Why dont you phone in and ask its not hurting anybody except your pride by the looks of it.

Ordered on the phone yesterday. Should I receive anything to confirm like an email or is that just specific to the online order being sent out in emails, or is it just a case of waiting to Saturday for the engineer to turn up as it is all on VMs scheduling systems anyway!

When was your install date? Just wondering if the call was a check you are OK for the planned date of install still.

So I could get a call tomorrow (2 days after ordre like you) or a call Friday, the day before the install?

Just nice to confirm but VM sound busy enough with callers!

My install is Friday so it could be ether. Saying that it sounded more like a check to see if the date was still OK.

ordered Tivo online on Tuesday, just got this email.

Thanks for being one of the first to order our new TiVo service. We’re sorry you haven’t heard anything from us yet, but demand for TiVo has been higher than expected so it’s taking us a little longer than normal to confirm orders.

We have received your order though, and we’re processing it now. We’ll be in touch very shortly to arrange your installation date, and you’ll soon be enjoying the best TV service around

Yes although it seems best to set it up as the underlying Cisco box, only right now the model number has slipped my mind.

It's posted on here and originally on AV Forums.
