Just hope my trusty S/A V+ keeps going then.;)

I know it's daft but the main reason for me not going for a V+ box yet, despite being an XL TV customer for many years, is that I'm worried about what I'll get: a box that is slow, unreliable, has a poor up-scaled SD picture or any combination of those three. There's also the fact that my additional Pace-compatible, IrDA remote controls and the IrDA keyboard that I bought on eBay for £1 won't work with a Samsung, Scientific Atlanta* or Cisco box. :(

Apart from the two flavours of TiVo box, which I assume are all manufactured by Cisco, what other boxes are "Coming Soon to Virgin TV"?

*Scientific Atlanta is now part of Cisco

I think that the only 2 boxes that they will have are the TiVo and the V-HD box:confused: IMHO. This is due to the V-HD box been able to have the TiVo software capable?

Well as they pretty well have a monopoly and Ofcom say users are being overcharged because of that monopoly it could well be one reason why he is a customer but anti Sky. Nobody likes to be ripped off. :)

I pay £20.25 for all the sky sports channels , doesn't seem bad value to me when I pay £9.00 a month for ESPN for a third of the sport , just out of interest what do you think the price should be ? As for Sky being a monopoly and overcharging , I'll leave that to the courts and OFCOM. If its a cheaper sports option your after , I believe Premier sports is only 6.99. http://premiersports.tv/index.html

What you pay Sky is irrelevant unless you are saying everybody should move to Sky which would make them a total monopoly. I get ESPN thrown in with my xl subscription, so again what you pay is irrelevant. What isn't irrelevant is what Ofcom say, although you seem to think it is, and they say Sky is charging too much for movies and are reselling Sports channels at too high a price.

It's something the added recently. 3 quid a month for NFL Network over the web. I'd be happy to pay that sub if there were a TiVo app that could access it.

Have I not already said it will be decided in the court ? What do you think a fair price is ? Were did I also say its irrelevant what OFCOM say ? If they reduce the price , I benefit if not I'll still carry on as a Sky sports subscriber so its win win for me whatever.

Well why not? Bones and House (and 24, Lost & Prison Break when they were running) are/were their highest rated programs, and they're all from the other side of the 'atlantic'. Then there's Raising Hope and Modern Family which seem to be doing good as well, although removal of any of the above would kill the channel.

It will be interesting to see how Sky responds to Tivo and also how good youview is.

Although threre is loads of good stuff on Tivo, whishlists is a biggie for me and as Tivo have the patents tied up on a lot of tivo features, I wonder if Sky can find an equivalent that doesn't infringe the patent?

Yes I agree interesting times ahead , competition will hot up even more next year with TIVO, Sky Anytime+ , Youview , connected TVs , games consoles all available widely. Sky are currently let down with the stupid restriction of Anytime+ only being available to Sky BB customers however I feel this may change.

Mad Dogs was commissioned by British Sky Broadcasting.

I agree House has nothing to do with Sky as it is merely an imported show, I wonder if Sky would ever consider putting in on Atlantic?

Yes. Sorry. My mistake :o: I meant to delete that post when I found out but got busy. I realise now I was thinking of "Mad Men" which they nicked off the BBC by throwing more money at the show's producers. :(

I'm surprised they haven't yet moved all their best shows over to their "exclusive" channel :)

Mad Dogs is quite good but i'm afraid Hugh Laurie will always be The Prince Regent for me, brilliant.

I would expect shows like House to be on Atlantic but to their credit they have kept an awful lot of top US content away from it which is good news for non Sky customers.

They probably will when it stops being 'free to all Sky customers'. Is it August when it is only available in the Variety Pack?

That's a good point. I think it is August it joins the Variety Pack.

Sky seem to be slowly positioning Sky 1 as a more mainstream British channel now so I suppose you could be right. Perhaps we will see a lot of content moved over to Atlantic.

News Corp's purchase of Shine will certainly be useful for British productions.

It was certainly useful for Elisabeth Murdoch or at least her bank balance ;) Shine produced a fair bit for the BBC I think , Spooks being one of them.

That would be a pretty busy evening schedule on Sky Atlantic .

There are 7 days in the week. SkyOne & Living don't show that many shows - most are repeated two or three times per week.

Sky Living
Greys Anatomy
Supernatural
Cougar Town
Criminal Minds
Drop Dead Diva
Nikkita
Bones

Sky One
NCIS LA
Hawaii Five O
The Chicago Code
House
Fringe
Lie to me
Modern Family

There just off the top of my head.

MediaBoy quoted that the 500gb Tivo would launch this week and specifically released on the 11th May (today).

Has anyone heard anything more regarding this?

Had the email a while back stating that an exclusive 500gb would be offered in May, but certainly nothing yet (but there are quite a few days left in May yet).

The TiVo 500Gb has indeed launched today and is only available to exisiting customers for the time being but is also available on TV packages lower than XL. It will be £49.95 and £40 install.

Good news it is now on sale, was just hoping that the 'exclusive email' I received was pointing towards possibly no install fee, rather than the exclusivity of the 500gb TIVO itself. Ah well.

Nice to see Media Boy still providing good info though.

14 shows. 7 days with 3 hours per night of peak time = plenty of time, especially as Lie to Me & Chicago Code have been axed and one or two of the others still have question marks over their future.

Besides, they quite clearly aren't going to move EVERY show over. The OP did say their best shows. Which would be the ones with the highest ratings.

Are you sure about The Chicago Code its a brand new show.

Just checked and you are indeed correct Fox are not renewing , I never liked Lie to me anyway

Yeah, it's annoying about Chicago Code. Hasn't even started here yet, but already we know there won't be anymore. Kind of makes me think if I should bother watching it!

I liked Lie to Me, but it does have limited life span. It does get a bit same old same old. Although it was worth watching just for Monica Raymund :romance:

Lie To Me is returning to Sky 1 on Thursday 2 June, it's Series 3 picking up from where it got to last time.

Yeah I kind of agree , it makes watching The Chicago Code kind of pointless.

What no-one has seemed to realise about Sky's positioning of programmes on Sky 1 and Sky Living, is that they are constrained by the amount of actual time they have for them in each 24 hr period. When you factor in that both of these channels (Sky Living even more so) are contractually obliged to show a minimum of 18 hrs of trailers and adverts for Sky Atlantic/Sky 1, then it does not leave a lot of room for actual programmes.

I have never watched Sky Atlantic, but it feels like I have watched every programme that's been on it.
