Does anybody else think it's a bit strange that, since they've either won the league or been promoted, all 3 of Arsenal, Norwich and West Brom have distinctly gone of the boil?

Correct me if Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢m wrong (and I know you will ;) ), but have Arsenal actually won a game since (draws against Spurs, Birmingham and Portsmouth), Norwich were lucky against Preston at the weekend and lost last night, and West Brom have lost the last 2.

Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ve got 3 theories:
1. Is this simply a case of the better team winning on the night (or not winning but, on the other hand, not losing in the case of Arsenal)?
2. The †˜lowerâà ¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€Š¾Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¢ teams raising their games against the promoted ones?
3. The promoted teams / champions getting complacent as their season is already effectively over  ?

who's old Enough to remember this one :)

Back home, they'll be thinking about us
When we are far away
Back home, they'll be really behind us
In every game we play They'll share every goal we are scoring
Out there we can still hear them roaring
And we'll give all we've got to give
For the folks back home

Back home, they'll be watching and waiting
And cheering every move
Back home, though we think we're the greatest
That's what we've got to prove Once more, we will meet with the best
Like before, we'll be put to the test
Knowing we'll give all we've got to give
For the folks back home

They'll see, as they're watching and praying
That we, put our hearts in our playing
We'll fight until the whistle blows
For the folks back home

Well if you are really 98:erm: you would remember this one as well, but I somehow doubt it.

FOOTBALL CRAZY

1. I have a favourite brother
And his Christian name is Paul.
He's lately joined a football club
For he's mad about football.
He's two black eyes already
And teeth lost from his gob,
Since Paul became a member of
That terrible football club.

CHORUS: For he's football crazy. he's football mad.
The football it has taken away
The little bit o' sense he had.
And it would take a dozen servants
To wash his clothes and scrub
Since Paul became a member of that
Terrible football club.

2. In the middle of the field one afternoon
The captain says, 'Now Paul,
Would you kindly take this place-kick
Since you're mad about football?
So he took forty paces backwards,
Shot off from the mark.
The ball went sailing over the bar
And landed in New Yark.

3. His wife she says she'll leave him
If Paulie doesn't keep
Away from football kicking
At night-time in his sleep.
He calls out 'Pass, McGinty!'
And other things so droll
Last night he kicked her out of bed
And swore it was a goal!

I hope it's true!

I was in Liverpool during the last World Cup and noticed the St George Cross flying from the top of the city museum. I think this is the first time I have ever seen the English flag flying from a municipal building. And Liverpool is run by the bleeding-heart-Lib Dems, so if Liverpool can get the flag flying, there's hope for the rest of the country after all.

Yes, there's a remarkably eclectic and tolerant ethnic mix out here, considering we're supposed to be a community in the Western Isles ...

I would probably only get away with painting the cross on Archie's castle though. Maybe Spencer would do it if I asked him nicely enough?

Hmmm, out of that list Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢d only really be worried about France and Italy.

Germany have been underperforming badly recently, and I donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t think they are the force that they were only 2 years ago.

Portugal and Spain have the same problem †“ they seem to have plenty of talented individuals but they always seem to muck it up as a team (although I do accept that Portugal are getting better)

As has been said earlier in this thread, Wales are actually a very good side (Speed, Savage, Bellamy, Giggs etc). However, Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢d be very surprised if they were allowed into Euro 2004 instead of Russia †“ I just think it would be too big a U-turn for UEFA.

I also agree with Russ D on this one †“ it would be better for Wales to qualify on merit than through the †˜back doorâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢

2 main points of discussion for this post.

1) How can a team of immortals have to resort to cheating to beat portsmouth at home and only draw at OT thanks to a missed pen.. be three minutes away from being knocked out of Europe and then get knocked out later on and lose in the FA Cup semi final. If they were that good they would have won the log. I do think it is an amazing performance by the team and one i don't think will be repeated in England again but they did have quite alot of luck as well. Just gets me annoyed that when United won the treble the press were like well done your quite good... when it's another side who only win one trophy they are the greatest team ever to have lived.. alot of double standards by the press here.

2) How come SA got the world cup. What facilities and infrastrure have they got to host it.. We only just lost out on hosting the 06 tourny and we have far better stadiums, facilities and infrastructure that Germany and no it's going to a third world country.. Am sure they will do a good job but seems more of a political decision than a footballing one.. Don't think England or even GB will ever get to host the world cup again.

First of all Arsenal did not cheat or where 'lucky' to remain unbeaten every football team that is successful has a lot of luck. Man united have had a lot of luck in the past as well. The fact that we nearly lost at old trafford is because united missed not us you. Thats football you cannot keep going back and saying 'you wouldn't have won if he scored' because its stupid.

Second of all the press have always gone on and on about the treble and everyone is still saying 'arsenal is not man united cos they haven't won europe. Manchester has always had huge press because of its fan base the papers do talk about united a lot and united are still being prasied. Just accept that arsenal won and they deserved to. The league doent lie theres where the teams deserve to be, we accpeted it last year can you accept it this time?

Actually no, Arsenal fans did not accept United deserved to win last year - all we heard was "if we hadn't slipped up, we'd have won".

Show respect and you'll get it in return.

On the other hand, Liverpool dominated the English league for the best part of 20 years and yet throughout that period, Man Utd still managed to attract a whole pile of praise and attention, much of it IMHO as a Liverpool fan, entirely undeserved at that time. They had a big squad full of big names and a big budget, and what did they win in that time? Answer = not very much. But then, they are a very big club, with a very big image, and have been for a very long time. Man Utd are always going to be loved and loathed in equal measure for that reason, regardless of how well (or otherwise) they perform on the pitch.

It less of political correctness issue than is thought of, Sepp Blatter wanted a different continent for every world cup to ensure that it is fairly distributed to everyone, so North American for 94, Europe 98, Asia 02, Europe 06, African 10, so Europe 2014 ?

Not really political correctness, but most definately political, If it wasn't for the votes of Asian and African nations, that numpty Sepp Blatter would have been turfed out years ago.

yes a good point actually.. in the 70's and until the 90's we were basically crap.. with just a few FA Cups.. the liverpool side of the 70's and 80's was prob the best England side ever 4 European Cups can't be wrong..

I do think arsenal have been the best side all season but not by as much as the press make out.. Just don't like the fact that they are getting over praised but as you said i guess it has happened to us in the past as well.

Thing that really upset me was when i read the FA were thinking about giving the FA cup to arsenal if they won it! Would they ever do that to United ? How about giving us the Premiership trophy when they had tp put the new sponsors name on it.. we did win it 8 times in 10 seasons..

would have been nice of the country that invented the game had a chance at hosting it. we never stood a chance when we bid for it in 06.. it's all backhanders and vote trading etc..

seeing as we invented the game the FA wrote the rule book why don't we have anyone high up in FIFA or UEFA

Right, let's get this over and done with - who else has a disturbingly sneaking suspicion that Millwall are going to humiliate United today?

any thing can happen in the fa cup Russ :) 1-0 to Millwall :tu:

Re: [Merged] - Football talk

Entertaining first half, Millwall proving that league status means nothing in the FA Cup final, Giggs showing good sportsmanship by not diving in a situations where most players would have tried their luck, not too happy with Wise's antics though....

Re: [Merged] - Football talk

Nice cross from Ronaldo after 7 mins :D

Good goal too, united should be 3 or 4 in front, but thats football.
A long way to go yet though.

Good touch over Jimmy Davis, wearing his name on their shirts.

I would like to point out to those (mainly man u fans) who have accused arsenal of being dirty and cheating there way to the title. We have finished top of the fair play league. Yes we are the best fair play team in the premership

:sorry: Poor old Damien :D

Banter between opposing fans is part and parcel of supporting a football team. You give and you get it back. Try not to get upset over it and join in.

:hugs:

Man U gave Arsenal a head start and still won the league. Surely, this has demoralised the Arsenal squad. With the purse strings tightened in Highbury, will Arsene be willing to stay? This is a burning question on the player's minds. Loyalty is no longer a word used in football.

My personal feeling is that Viera will stay with Arsenal for another season before walking out free on a Bosman ruling.
