I don't think this bad weather will affect Sky, in all the years l had Sky, weather didn't affect the signal.

The weather effects Cable far greater, my picture is cracking up at the moment, and we have big winds outside.

How is the wind affecting underground cables?

If power gets taken out it's bye bye VM , SKY or whatever. Just as a precaution i've put a pile of movies on my tablet which is fully charged and i have a solar charger for it too.

NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Well done BT. Certainly shows these channels are now available. It is still very plausible (in my eyes) that they may have been in exclusivity deals with Sky, but that deal may have now passed.

I certainly am not going to criticize VM considering what they have given us this year so far, but I really hope they follow suit quickly. Even if they don't, I will still be a VM customer as they offer the best deal for me and TIVO still rocks my televisual world. :)

Given the fact BT have launched these channels, I wonder if MB'S other DNP (I think there is/was still one outstanding) concerns these channels?

Lets just take a moment of silence to think of those Sky viewers who may lose their television service tonight in the storms.

Indeed, but lets also help the strong winds do not cause any serious damage to their dishes.

Edit: I see they have changed the packages very recently - that looks quite promising, the only thing putting me off Youview was the lack of HD and the seemingly absent recording functionality. Good job BT.

Yes, they do seem to be moving fast. I recently saw The Gadget Show compare Freeview, Freesat and Youview HD PVR's. Youview came out on top for picture quality, ease of use etc.

Here's some information for you.

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/tv/hd-tv

http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...extra-channels

go to hd extra and there is a list

not a big list

HD Extra
TV from BT – HD Extra
A selection of TV channels in high definition for stunning picture quality and glorious detail. If you add HD Extra with BT Sport you'll also get BT Sport in HD at no extra cost.

HD Extra includes the following channels:

FOX HD
National Geographic HD
Nat Geo WILD HD
SyFy HD
History HD
Crime and Investigation HD

An extra £3 a month for just those channels seems poor value to me.

When I used satellite as my primary TV source, I had problems with bad weather. The main problem seemed to be caused by snow settling on the LNB and dish.

Your cable service should not be affected by bad weather, it may be worth getting an engineer out to check the installation if bad weather impacts on the quality of your picture.

The wind might not, but the water can cause issues.
