Re: Official Big Brother 2010 thread
Channel 4 will bring back Celebrity Big Brother for one last series before it ditches the BB format for good, The Daily Star has claimed. According to the paper, the broadcaster has taken the unexpected decision to have one final star-studded run, despite Friday’s lavish finale which marked the apparent end of their association with the show. A ‘source’ was quoted as saying: “Channel 4 has been really pleased with the ratings and amount of coverage for this year’s Big Brother and Ultimate Big Brother, so they don’t want to let it go just yet. “It will probably look a bit strange after everyone thought it was the last we’d see of it on Channel 4, but it will be worth it financially for them to have one final run.” They added: “The celebrity version always comes up trumps in the ratings, and there’s always a lot more drama because they all have big egos.” Viewers watched mournfully on Friday as the curtain fell on ten years of Big Brother, with features including a funeral procession through the crowd led by presenter Davina McCall. However, there has been much speculation about what the future holds after the iconic catchphrase ‘Big Brother will get back to you’ were the last words to be said on the show. Channel 4 axed it last August, while the company’s chief executive David Abraham said he ‘personally would’ rule out Big Brother returning to the C4 network in June. Since then, media mogul Richard Desmond – whose assets include The Daily Star – has publically declared his intention to resurrect Big Brother on Channel Five, which he bought in July. He is said to have held talks with BB production company Endemol, but rumours have been circulating since Friday that discussions between both sides have broke down. Five, Desmond and Endemol have yet to officially comment on the current situation |
