If that is what it takes for football to sort itself out then yes I hope he goes, if however he is sold and nothing is done to regulate transfers or sort out the role of agents then no

Do you think West Ham made four bids for Upson without knowing if the player wanted to play for them or not?

You know what is interesting about Birmingham, the amount of times they say a player isn't for sale only to sell him anyway, whilst its certainly possible that their players are being unsettled or falling foul of dodgy agent practices it is also possible that the club themselves actively encouraging such behaviour, you think if they had any ambition or wanted to be regarded as anything other than a selling club they make a stand once and make the player stay

On his current form he perhaps the best player in the premiership at the moment (if not the best then in the top 3) - so you'd rather see the premiership devalue itself? People usually associate success in the premiership with Utd and Ronaldo is helping us acheive that. Keep it this way and the English league will be the envy of the world.

There's nothing sinister about Ronaldo's position, it's all power play to get his value as high as possible. As soon as it looks like he might be showing interest in another team, Utd will be considering a higher contract when it comes around for renewal. It's all business. We might not like the way business is conducted but that's business.

the problem seems to be the greed of the agents.. they don't care if a player stays put, moves to another club or ends up playing for Bromley Town or non-league

all they care about is how they can get a bigger commision, if the current clubs offer a bigger commision then the agent says they will stay..

until FIFA and UEFA put tighter controls on agents then this practise will keep going on and on and more money will go out of the game.. the fans have to pay higher prices just to cover the agents fees that are paid

I don't dispute how good a player he is and as I said if football finally gets its house in order then I think the sacrifice is worth it, surely the Premiership is already being devalued by the behaviour mentioned earlier, carry on as we are and we run the risk of ruining it, attendances are already dwindling to such a degree that terracing is actively proposing a return, people in general consider the players to be out of touch mercenaries.

The fact is too many people have their hands in the cookie jar and until it affects the big clubs nothing will be done

Btw hasn't he just signed a new contract?

Fair points indeed, I would like to see agents abolished personally, let the PFA lawyers do the deals for them

you are right some players are just in it for the money but I think without agents then some of this practice will stop

take some deals an agent can get paid over a £1 million just for a player signing a contract extension at the same club :Yikes: :Yikes:

yeah the PFA can do most of this or just a normal lawyer.. i think if a player wants an agent then let them pay for it.. not the clubs, of course that might work in the prem and la Liga but not very well in Div 2 so it needs to be thought through more

Watching Spurs v Sevilla

The ref is a complete and utter blind W***er

Missed a clear penalty, failed to send off a sevilla player for stamping on a spurs players head

Defore just came on a scored seconds after coming on, an Lenon scored 2 mins later 2 all 3-4 on AGG to sevilla

---------- Post added at 21:41 ---------- Previous post was at 21:14 ----------

Well Spurs were robbed, they didn't stand a chance with Sevilla's 12 men

don't believe everything the commentators say esp David Pleat.. it was never a pen.. he dived .. yes there may have been a slight shirt pull but if that can drag a man down then we will have 90 pens a game

i've said before unless a player dives in pon purpose to take a man and makes no attempt to get the ball then it isn't a pen.. until FIFA etc use the same rule we will ALWAYS have diving

the commentators don't help either as all the young kids watching now think they should fall over and dive if their shirt is touched

no he can still do what he wants and I bet his agent will still talk to Real and Barca to try and get a better deal

as we all know if a player wants to go in the end he will

Until a club has the bottle to dump a player in the reserves for the remainder of his contract (if said player expresses desire to play for another club during his contract) then it will go on and on.

I'd imagine if that happened the player would go to court and probably win. Restriction of trade or something like that.

Its funny though people complain that contracts mean nothing and then slag off players like Winston Bogarde who refuse to leave and see out their contract. I mean which way do you want it?

Winston Bogarde, the man who wasted a chunk of his career rotting in the reserves, a prime example of a footballing mercenary, do these people not realise how lucky they are? Given the privilege to play football in front millions every week and he wants to waste some of it? How much money did that guy want and how out of touch is he with those that pay his over inflated wages?
