It's the pork rind/skin rather than just the fat.

It was certainly cold this morning Mr K as it took 20 minutes for the ice to disperse enough so that the OH could start driving the car.

Get a heated front windscreen Den, it's the feature I most value on my car. Deicer is no good when your breath then freezes on the inside !

Just back from hospital and getting out of the car and heard the loudest aircraft coming towards me, I swear it blocked out the sun and then I realised it was the Antonov AN-22 which had landed at Manchester Airport this morning. WOW is that one big plane prop plane, made me feel very small. Spectacular homecoming flyby though. :)

I heard it but was stuck in a conference call so missed it :sulk:

Really clear skies too so would have been a great photo opp

It actually flew in to Prestwick on Wednesday night (as per plane spotters thread) to pick up an engine part bound for Helsinki then back out to Manchester today to pick up a heavy load for Cuba via Gander in Canada.

...btw that thing usually has a crew of 4 to fly it!

Marmite toast without the real thing isn't worth having IMHO. Pity about all the carbon - maybe you should show the catering staff this:

Store itself was great, but when you have to be part of a 2 person team going back and recounting stuff that someone else did on 1 tag instead of on 5 like she should have done, then you get why I was a bit peeved by the end.

You've only got to Google Vodka blind tasting test to see that it isn't worth paying over the odds for vodka. If you're willing to pay out over the odds then you might as well get a decent single malt and get a better tasting experience from it. Brands like Grey Goose never come out anywhere near the top and yet people fall for the marketing.

Entertained my sister for lunch. I cooked Japanese: Miso soup with wakame seaweed. (Tastes better than it sounds LOL) Then Japanese pan fried chicken with green peppers and shitaki's with Mirin and soy sauce. Warmed Saké served in my authentic ceramic Saké set. My sister managed to use the chopsticks even though I offered her normal eating irons. :tu:

She really liked the food so several points up there. :)

Good luck dilli.

Found some special turkey gravy in Lidl this morning as well as some brandy cream so fewer things to stress about on the day.

The cars back on the road, i had a bit of a disaster on Dec 23rd 7pm A1 southbound at 70mph.

Somehow i got too close to the side of the road and either scrapped the curb or hit a pothole, which took out the side of my tyre causing an instant flat and as i don't carry a spare in my kind of car i had to really on the RAC for a recovery, luckily a layby wasnt too far away! Thank god i was using a Satnav on my phone so i could tell them where i was in relation to the next junction, but it still took them 2.5hrs to get to us and then another hour to take us home.

This messed up Christmas as we had been expecting to drive up to my parents on the 24th, and trying to get a mobile tyre fitter out on that day at such short notice was impossible, so had to rely on the parents to drive down 3hrs to collect us and then drive us back after Boxing Day. in the terrible snowy conditions.

I'd bet it was a pothole, one took my front left suspension out, which required the entire front springs being replaced, and £700+ lighter wallet.

To make matters worse I had to wait a week to get it fixed, and the car wasn't safe to drive anywhere but the garage.

I had to borrow my dads car to get to work.

It could have been a pot hole at the side of the road however it was my bad driving as i remember glancing down for a split second to the heater control nob and then i felt the judder of the bumps on the white line as i drove too close to the edge of the road and the curb was only a few inches from that white line so we were very very lucky it didn't snatch the steering wheel out of my hand and send the car flying in anther direction.

Just got a shoulder of lamb out from the freezer to defrost for tomorrow. One of my cut price deli bargains from several months ago. I'll slow roast it for 3 odd hours over carrots and onions with the right herbs. Going to be melt in the mouth gorgeousness. Just the ticket for New Year lunch.

Heero trying boiling your lamb, like we do, not only is it soo tender you also have stock for potato soup. :)

I do pot roast beef as you describe but I'm slow roasting the lamb (150C) as it's a fair sized joint. The veggies and stock that it rests on make the gravy after a whiz with the hand blender and then straining.

We love slow cooking meat as it once its done it just melts in the mouth and IMO is superior to any of your fancy joints of meats which cost far more..

I try.

Today's happy: I'm going to wear my manga wig all day. The OH is killing himself that I have green hair! Getting used to having a fringe that I haven't had for decades is still weird.

I made my niece cry on her birthday, I'll explain.

I gave her an envelope which had a letter. I started with:

"A long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

No.. wait that the Star Wars intro :D

A long time ago.. well mid January 2001"

I had opened a bank account for her.

She started to lose it and and as she hugged me the floodgates opened and she sobbed into my shoulder.

She never saw it coming.

She now gets why we saying to her apply for your driving licence :D

My nephew said "Can I punch you for making my sister cry" :D

He must know he's getting one.

@ Tinky Happy belated anniversary :)

@ Hom3r your so nice and generally a good person, I wish the world was filled with people like you.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a tattoo of the symbol strength, something very discreet that would be in white ink on the inside of my little finger, I can't believe I'm considering this but I am.

You do it Weenie as our late friend was the last person you would think would have a tattoo but his daughter who is a tattooist managed to talk him round as he had a small native Indian tattoo done for him.
