In this forum, you'll get the likes of Andrew saying that we must abide by the law. So the law needs adjusting to permit the use of military assets to prevent the boats from crossing into our waters.

I've said before that this would create an international incident with France - but that's long overdue in this case. What's happening at taxpayer expense is beyond unacceptable; also, there will be terrorist plants among those landing in the UK.

Then from Anonymouse:

That's not the situation here. Trump is not trying to take control. He is simply suggesting that Starmer should use all available means (including the military) to stop the influx of boat migrants into the UK.

How exactly would you expect "military assets" to prevent the boats crossing?

Would you expect them to shoot at the boats?

I'm sure there'd be a lot of people that would actually say 'yes'... :erm:

Detainment would be the most logical, but how / where??

But nothing will change till we either come out of the ECHR or amend it to suit our needs to be able to do more.

It’s not just the EHCR - there’s also the Geneva Convention, the Law of the Sea, and HM Armed Forces Rules of Engagement.

I'd guess shepherd them in and out the country

I have no idea but I'd start with acknowledging their reasoning to why they want to come here in the first place. Then dismantle this ideal. Detainment, camps etc with the threat of sending them back. No benefits, no housing, no hotels, no money, nothing, just the basics in a camp if they are caught and if they don't quality to stay then they're shipped back. There's got to be a message that says if you come here you'll get nothing. Make Calais look like the better option basically. But all that sounds so easy doesn't it.....

More enforcements... Employ an illegal you get shut down. I'm sure there's a lot more they can do.

 do you believe this country will offend allies in that way? It all sounds very self absorbing

How, then?

Use your imagination, please - along the lines of THenry’s suggestion. OK?

We need to invade France, get them to quit boules for cricket and wine for warm beer. And start speaking English.

That way, the refugees/economic migrants won't have a need to make it across the Channel.

That's my interpretation of what Seph's on about. ;)

If you think of them as an invading force, why not . At least tow them back from whence they came.
