More Rothschild joy for Kate.

Elusive Kate completed back-to-back victories in the Prix Rothschild with a fluent success at Deauville.

Winner of a controversial race for the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, the John Gosden-trained filly was far too good for her rivals in France.

She stormed to victory in the hands of William Buick, with Duntle beating Kenhope in the scrap for second place.

Star names stand firm in Sussex

Dawn Approach and Toronado will lock horns for the third time this season after featuring among seven horses declared for the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday.

The Richard Hannon-trained Toronado was expected to give the then-unbeaten Dawn Approach most to think about in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May, but could only finish fourth as Jim Bolger's Godolphin-owned colt claimed Classic glory with a mesmerising display.

Duntle camp cool on Kate rematch

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Tue

Quote:

Connections of Duntle are keen to avoid another showdown with Elusive Kate after finding John Gosden's filly too good at Deauville on Sunday.

Elusive Kate produced a stunning display to claim the Prix Rothschild for the second successive year, with the David Wachman-trained Duntle finishing best of the rest in second.

Garswood wins Lennox Stakes.

Quote:

Garswood, the 9-4 favourite, clinched the Lennox Stakes on the first day of Glorious Goodwood, holding off Caspar Netscher in an exciting finish.

Ryan Moore guided the three-year-old home for Richard Fahey, who said Garswood may now be aimed at the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp in October.

Producer, ridden by champion jockey Richard Hughes, trailed home out of the places for Richard Hannon.

Declaration ready to go to war.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Wed

Quote:

Connections of Declaration Of War believe a return to a mile for the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood today will enable him to threaten crack three-year-olds Dawn Approach and Toronado.

Aidan O'Brien's colt is undoubtedly the biggest threat to the favourites from the older brigade in the Group One contest.

Winner of the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot over a mile, the four-year-old was far from disgraced when runner-up to Al Kazeem in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown over a mile and a quarter last time.

Toronado exacts Sussex revenge.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Wed

Quote:

Toronado justified the unwavering faith of his connections when pouncing late to gain his revenge on Dawn Approach in the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

Kevin Manning made an early bid for home on the 2000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach, kicking clear with two furlongs to run on the Jim Bolger-trained colt. First to challenge was Declaration Of War but he soon cried enough, before Richard Hughes made his move on Toronado having travelled particularly strongly in behind the principals.

Vintage Hughes on Toormore

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Wed

Quote:

Toormore justified Richard Hannon's decision to bypass Royal Ascot with a cheeky victory in the Veuve Cliquot Vintage Stakes at Goodwood.

Owned by the Middleham Park Racing syndicate, the temptation would have been for a day out for all their members but Hannon did not think the horse would be mature enough.

Given an extra few weeks to strengthen up, Toormore was sent off the 5-4 favourite but looked up against it when Godolphin's Outstrip shot clear approaching the two-furlong marker.

However, Richard Hughes did not panic and just like in the Sussex Stakes half an hour earlier, Hughes and Hannon got the better of Godolphin, winning eased down by a neck.

Lonsdale aim for Estimate.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

Sir Michael Stoute is targeting the Lonsdale Cup at York for his Gold Cup heroine Estimate.

The four-year-old filly provided the Queen with a memorable victory in Royal Ascot's two-and-a-half-mile feature in June, prompting scenes of jubilation as she returned to the famous winner's enclosure.

Some had suggested Estimate may not run again until the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot in October, but Stoute is keen to get her out before then, with a trip to the Knavesmire on August 23 favoured over the Irish St Leger at the Curragh on September 15.

Rock repeat will be tougher.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...e&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

John Oxx feels Saddler's Rock is heading into the defence of his Artemis Goodwood Cup crown in better form than he was before he disappointed in the Ascot Gold Cup.

However, the Currabeg handler believes this year's renewal is a much stronger race, with horses like Mount Athos and Brown Panther stepping up in trip and unexposed in staying terms.

Saddler's Rock looked set to be one of the major protagonists in the staying division after his win 12 months ago but it has not worked out for one reason or another.

Rich pickings for Haggas.

http://www.attheraces.info/article.a...=&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

The good run of form for the William Haggas stable continued when Saayerr returned to winning ways in the Audi Richmond Stakes to give Ryan Moore a third winner of this year's Glorious Goodwood.

Having been successful on his first two starts, the Acclamation colt was only eighth in the Norfolk Stakes but showed that to be all wrong here.

Charlie Hills' Cable Bay made him pull out all the stops, but Saayerr (5-1) always appeared in control and struck by a neck. The first two pulled two and a half lengths clear of Thunder Strike but the 2-1 favourite, Figure Of Speech, missed the break and was always on the back foot
