Quite, but I think Den’s brief comment was meant to imply that the popularity of streamers against pay-TV channels was declining. There is no evidence for this if that was the point being made. Sky has also been losing viewers.

The cause is the cost of living crisis, not the popularity of streamers. Of course all types of TV subscriptions will suffer during an economic crunch.

I’m not sure “we are popular but less people are giving us money” will keep shareholders happy.

The experience of 2008 was that pay-tv subscriber numbers held up well during the economic downturn. The difference your streaming services have is all their eggs are in one basket, disposable - general entertainment services with short term contracts.

Sky/Virgin have diverse product portfolios (broadband, mobile), broader customer base upon which to absorb their fixed costs and a compelling sports offering that is among the last things to be cut back.

I also think you were reading too much into Den’s brief quip, however your natural impulse to leap to the defence of streaming services for some unknown reason kicked into action.

What is the REAL difference between using a streaming service to catch up on a show and recording it to watch as and when you want too. Unless it has a show exclusively , I fail to the point of bothering with the hassle and of course the cost of bothering. At the moment I have Netflix but if I watch an hour or show a week that's about it ! Will cancel until Wednesday comes back. Finding less and less to bother with ,give the number shows they cancel , just read on Facebook that 1899 is cancelled , so will stop before I get to interested .

Main difference I would say is you run out of disk space recording whereas in streaming you do not have to worry about that

Deep pockets are what YOU will need for DAZN from next month as their UK price goes up an eye-watering 150% from £7.99 a month to £19.99.

Given they have zero content of note it’s difficult to see how the fledgeling streamer survives in the UK.

I can imagine how that convo went.

Finance: How much do we need to charge per subscriber to break even?
Operations: £19.99
Finance: Please raise the price to £19.99
Pricing analyst: What about the inevitable cancellations?
Finance: We'll make them up from your salary. You're fired.

Its only £9.99 if you sign up for 12 months.
The £19.99 seems to be a "cancel anytime" pass.

I think this reduces the prospect of HBO Max launching in the UK in 2025.

There still merging the services but the lower priced Discovery+ will also still be available Standalone aswell according to Wall Street Journal, there afraid of losing the Discovery+ subscribers

I decided to give SKY stream a go as it's on a free month trial atm with no upfront fees, it arrived today and i'm not impressed tbh.
I'm going to give it a couple of weeks as not paying for it anyway for first month, i do like how discovery+ is included and it appears to be Discovery+ top tier as you get Eurosport too.
However the puck was a nightmare to set up took a few hard resets to link to my SKY account, no ability to scroll through channels either you have to keep going back to the guide.
