Does anyone remember the rumour from years back that the VHD box could be getting TiVo software uploaded to it (obviously without the recording side of it)???

Anyone know if any other announcements were ever made? Or was this a pipe dream from someone inside VM that never came to fruition?

I don't see that ever happening.

IIRC The former chief executive referred to it in a Q&A post results phone call as being possible but not necessary at the time.

So what is the latest for the update? I remember when it was first announced that everyone would have it by end of October but CS said now it will be by end of year.

The rumour I recall was that the general roll-out would start at the end of October if the trial was a success.

The official plan is to start the roll out sometime this month with it completed by the end of the year so CS are right

Yes, I remember that, I had VHD until recently and it is a great piece of kit no problems at all. I had hopped that Tivo software would come to it. I phoned up recently to renew my package and was told we are trying to get everyone on Tivo , so doubt it will happen now.

theres a video where Tivo is presenting their software to Haxe HQ, where they mentioned that they're software is fully open sourced. They were demonstrating they're new software on a Amazon Fire TV.
Power 5.5 mm DC[3] (6.25 V 2.5 A power adapter[4])
System-on-chip used Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T[3]
CPU Qualcomm Krait 300, quad-core to 1.7 Ghz[3]
Memory 2 GB LPDDR2 RAM[3]
Storage 8 GB internal[3]
Display 1080p[3]
Graphics Qualcomm Adreno 320[3]
Sound Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound[3]
Connectivity HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n), 10/100 Ethernet, Optical audio, Fire game controller[
They were also saying that it will go on customized STB's with lower specs. so that would mean that V+ boxes could be able to run their software without compromising or violating tivo rights.

V+ can't run TiVo software as it doesn't contain the required hardware. Nor can V-HD for that matter.

I'm not entirely sure this is what Derekb was talking about but below is a YouTube link to the WWX2014 haxe conference where Todd Kulick (TiVo's chief development man) talks about the journey of TiVo from Flash to Haxe. It's nearly an hour long, Todd Kulick is no Steve Jobs and large chunks flew well over my head but I thoroughly recommend a watch (especially if you like this sort of thing).

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

I was adding new programmes/series links to my record list today, and checked them on the page for "My planned recordings".

I noticed a small blue button above the list that I had not noticed before. Pressing blue toggles through recordings that clash and all planned recordings/programmes that clash or not.

There was a huge list of clashes! Reading through them it was obvious that TIVO was trying to record not only the NEW shows I required, but REPEATS and OLD series too.

I went through my series link options, and I had set the option to NEW only as I require.

Glitch or bug? Or have I made an error somewhere? :dunce:

I also realised that accidentally trying to add a 4th programme at the same time/date does not throw up a CLASH warning onscreen, it just fails to put the "circled R" symbol against the programme, leaving to me think I have set a valid recording!
