Do we have to assume that the Sunday Sun isn't selling as well as the NOTW did?

Doubt a Sunday newspaper being a few thousand down would equal a billion pound loss somehow, I did hear something about their Australia papers being hit hard by falling advertising revenues + there doesn't seem to be any mention of what the hacking has cost them in cold hard cash, compensation has cost them tens of millions alone, whilst investigating/ covering up must have cost a pretty penny to.

not really. it a $1.6bn opperating loss INCLUDING a $2.9bn extordenary cost (restructuring cost) . according to the quote.
That means a $1.3bn opperational profit

That's very shoddy reporting, probably by the office junior on the night shift. Robert Peston would not be pleased if he saw it. A one-off restructuring charge does not denote 'weakness'.

Beeman has already done the maths. Subtracting the one-off restructuring costs from the net loss reveals that News Corp is operating profitably.

from the Independent..

Although it did not spell out how it had calculated the write-down, it said that the Australian newspaper business was the biggest single contributor. Meanwhile, there was also an admission that the cost of dealing with the police investigations in the UK and resulting legal actions had now hit $224m, and that the loss of income from the shuttered News of the World was still weighing on the company's financial results.
Well that would appear to be from the horses mouth so to speak..:erm:

Yes, but it still doesn't equate to the claims the BBC made for the results last night. The loss was entirely due to one-off restructuring costs. Strip those out and you have an operating profit, regardless of the impact of any police investigations or income lost from the closure of the Screws.

Former Tory spin doctor Andy Coulson and six other people are appearing in court on Thursday charged with phone hacking.

Strathclyde Police have announced a 39 year old man has been charged with perjury and conspiracy to hack phones. :D

Mr Wight, who lives in London, arrived at Govan Police Station in Glasgow at about 14:00 to be interviewed, at the request of Strathclyde Police.

It is understood he left the station late on Thursday night and is not expected to appear in court on Friday.
They left a posh man from London wandering round Govan last thing at night. :D

"Yes Mr Wight just across the road and through the park. You'll be fine" :D

Thankfully the ex-MSP and ex-jailbird member for the socialist democratic people's republic of Pollok or his deeply annoying lawyer haven't cropped up to give their opinions yet.

Just pop into the Brechin Bar cocktail lounge and ask for a Mojito and some nibbles - they are very friendly around here; a sure-fire way to make new friends is to point out how big a supporter of Rangers you are.....;)

Is the police station still at St Helens Street?

I don't know, the nearest I like to get to it is the south side exit of the Clyde Tunnel, on the way to Ikea ...

You're not wrong ... I stopped for lunch in KFC there once. All it needed was a pair of saloon doors ... :erm:

Oy - I was brought/dragged up there..... (but totally agree with you).

It was a bit of a culture shock (on both sides) moving to Thetford, Norfolk, as a fifteen year old.
