Re: Football : Season 08/09
Manchester City spent 30 odd million on one player and he`s not that good.
15 million seems to be about what you need to spend nowadays to get a better than average player who is known about. Still made a slight profit last year http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...on/7788657.stm This is from a while back, i`d like to know what ammounts each club spent last year premiership spending 2002-03 - 2006-07 season Chelsea £268.30m Liverpool £58.07m Tottenham £37.30m Newcastle £35.65 Man United £34.95 Aston Villa £31.45m Middlesboro £19.85m Charlton £13.65m Bolton £11.55m Everton £9.95m Arsenal £9.90m Maybe not limited resources but again IMO he does seem to do well with what he`s got. Certainly better than some managers who have spent similar/more cash..... |

Re: Football : Season 08/09
Spurs - £356Million! Would never have expected that much. And Man Utd £190Million in sales! Considering we are the 2nd biggest spenders - to come out with a per-season spend that is comparable to Man City and then taking Trophies Won into consideration, that's some decent transfer activity. I suppose the fact we won so much with a team that cost very little can bias that slightly. However, remove Peter Kenyon from our outgoing and that £391 would (could) have been somewhat smaller.
Also £260Mill from Arsenal pretty much knocks the old "Wenger doesn't spend" out of the park, but again, £180Mill in sales. £4.6Mill a season. For all the things about him I don't like, very good manager Wenger. Edit: What I mean is more the myth that Wenger is gutless when it comes to spending. ---------- Post added at 19:31 ---------- Previous post was at 19:17 ---------- Quote:

Well done to Burnley, but they had great help from pathetic referee Mike Dean, l counted FOUR appeals turned down for United. With the problem he had with United, he should not have taken the game. Good game poor decisions.

Re: Football : Season 08/09
I am not even a supporter of either club, but there was a prob between United and Dean from a previous occasion, and it all seemed to go Burnley's way, Good luck to Burnley, but l believe that next season, the people who arrange ref's for game's should not allow ref's to go to games, that there has been a manager prob.
---------- Post added at 23:03 ---------- Previous post was at 23:01 ---------- I have just watched comments made by Celtic fans, towards Gordon Strachan, who has resigned as manager, To me, its the players on the pitch that have to perform, not the manager, and to be honest Celtic can't win everything, l would love to see another club in Scotland apart from the big two. |
Re: Football : Season 08/09
Can't really find anything about him bar a couple of Reds in a Sheff Derby.
But......... Quote:
Didn't know Strachan had gone, done nothing but win trophies, fans hate him, go figure. Next Newcastle manager?? |

Anyone gonna take a punt at what the score will be tommorrow? I reckon 1-1 (Utd to score first) then penalties, then............... |
Re: Football : Season 08/09
Im hoping it will be a lot more open that last year ( nerves dont do well with ET and penalties ) BUT i do think if we can get at Barca then we will win .
Both teams are excellent going forward but we have a solid back 5 and barca dont. Which could make all the difference with any luck. Im not going to stand up and say we WILL win but i think we stand a good chance. Shame the haul wouldnt include the FA Cup for the proper treble ( which we already have rafa - another fact for you ) but hey ho. |
Re: Football : Season 08/09
Hmmm, the only problem with being a smug Man United fan is if we have a successful season but lose something big (like tomorrow's game) then each fan of every other team legally earns the right to mercilessly gloat for a minimum of 2 months. So I'm really hoping for a 2-1 win and a trophy retention.
