What about that well known Sky Basic Channel?

It would be a nice thought. :) I reckon if Now TV doesn't make a success of it in Spain then there will be more pressure on Sky to get money in from sources like Atlantic. But of course Atlantic's content suppliers would also want a cut of the extra subscriptions too so less profitable than Sky's own sports content.

I think it will be tougher times for pay-tv companies who face higher sports rights costs and will now face higher entertainment content and equipment costs.

You forgot the plague of frogs! ;):D

I wonder how you voted! You don't know what will happen, it's early days and no one knows if costs will be higher etc etc.....

They do know that costs will be higher, import costs will rise, these things are not matters of opinion but matters of fact. That's the current situation.

Yes, but it's not all bad news. More expensive imports but cheaper exports.

Well I haven't seen any impact of these higher costs, can you show me where they are? bet you can't! As OB says, even if there are some higher import costs these will be offset by cheaper exports, the doomsday scenario will not happen, keep the faith......:D

I've been talking about this in the context of likely price increases for pay-TV services, not as a general debate about the future of the UK economy.
If you holiday overseas, you will have been affected by the poorer exchange rate, that's there for everyone to see and is an import Cheaper exports don't mean that Korean PVRs or the costs of US content reduce in price. They do mean that our companies are cheaper for overseas companies to snap up. We've already lost control of our main tech company, Arm, which the Japanese have recently acquired.

I guess you are a glass half empty man, Andrew.

Personally, I think that the higher cost of buying imported content is balanced by the lower cost of exported content, thus encouraging home made productions for us to enjoy and export overseas.

One door closes and another opens, basically. It's all bulls and bears ;)
