Went whale watching today in San Francisco Bay and just beyond the Golden Gate Bridge into the Pacific - saw two separate groups of Humpback whales (one of 4 and one of 2) repeatedly blow and breach for about two hours - amazing, enjoyable, and very impressive.

Pick up the car tomorrow, and off to Monterey/Carmel.

As an aside, we're stopping at the Marines' Memorial Club in SF, and they have a Happy Hour 4-6pm every day, where (if you're a resident) the draft beers, house wines, and a wide range of cocktails, are free - God Bless America!

Partly a moan, because it means the best manager leaving the office and potentially the company, but my manager who I've had run ins with is 12 weeks pregnant.

After several years hunting I've finally managed to source my last 2 Queen CDs, Queen at the BBC & Queen at the Beeb.

All I need to do then is rip them to FLAC along with my Madonna CDs and I've done my collection.

Boy does FLAC take up space.

Mark as Osem has said please claim carers allowance and contact social work as they can offer advice on aids that your Nan may need and be entitled to as I know my Mum got a wheelchair, hospital bed etc. We never claimed carers allowance but wish we had but unfortunately we thought it was means tested and have just recently found out that it is not, apparently thousands go unclaimed each year, so please claim as I reckon your Nan will be entitled to this benefit. Your Nan may also be able to get a alert system put in, I know in Scotland the local council gives this service so maybe that would be also worth inquiring about.

I 2nd what Jo has said "You are a Grandson to be proud of Mark. Remember we are here for you when you need us"

Take care Mark :hugs:

Had a harbour cruise round San Diego Harbour, and saw lots of US Navy warships, including a couple of US Marine Corps Littoral Landing Craft, a destroyer that sneaked out of the morning sea mist near us, and the USS Zumwalt, the latest stealth destroyer (the one with '1000' on the bow).

Nice ! The Zumwalt's getting it's lubricant coolers fixed to prevent a water ingress problem which was causing some embarrassing breakdown problems ;)

That destroyer looks like one of the new block of Arleigh Burkes out for shakedown :)

11 days and counting now. Although having second thoughts, and considering doing what a coworker suggested, rather than giving up completely why not do one or 2 jobs a week, which means I get some respite from caring for my grandmother. Sounds selfish, but if I chose jobs that are within say a 90 minute drive or maybe a mile limit (say 30 miles) and did those I might be OK. Need to sit down discuss with family at some point.

Had a nice pub lunch with Osem Jnr #2. Well, nearly. It'd have been far more pleasant if we hadn't been next to a couple of rather loud mouthed single mums whining on and on (expletives included) about the various 'waste of space fathers' of their children. They didn't get around to discussing why they decided to have children with such dodgy blokes...

new house owner turned up this morning looks like they emptied the bins on the floor before leaving , thing is they were kicked off the local council estate and pushed into the private house market ,so some poor sod who has worked hard for their home and belongings will end up with this dross living next door

Our great tits (stop laughing at the back) have fledged this morning. Lots of squawking and open beaks in the garden. Another successful brood in the manor.

First thing I did was to order some takeaway for food as didn't feel like cooking and then collapsed into bed and didn't stir for 9 hours.

Enjoy your trip Den.

Funnily enough we're going in the opposite direction at the end of the week. Down to Sennen nr Land's End to house sit and have a well earnt break. Got a friend who'll look after Heero Towers while we're away.

Met Office says the heatwave is going to come back next week so it's rain and gales for a fortnight then.:D

Yes we were supposed to go up last summer but poor health put paid to that sadly.:(

l gather the train will be taking you down there as travelling by car is even more arduous then going by train as the roads get clogged up so quickly in the summer in Cornwall.

Yes l have just looked at the weather myself and l often think the opposite of what it predicts and you then won't go far wrong in this country.:)

Still going by car as it's convenient to have it to hand down there and much cheaper.

Good productive day today, got my Nan's car insurance cancelled, called the DVLA about doing a SORN and that's in hand despite her having the old V5 document, car arranged to be collected for scrapping, and found lots of old life insurance policies which need to be checked out.

Note to self, no guilt your entitled to say no and let someone else give there time as at the end of the day both your time is just as precious.

After being told what does it matter then being laughed at right in front of my face let's just say my eyes were well and truly opened. I will say this it felt good when my hubby asked for all my Dad's payment cards and handed them to him and said get someone else to do this as my wife will not be doing this any longer and in regards to your shopping this will be now be getting done once a fortnight like it or lump it and she will not be doing your house work any more either then we left when I say left I followed a very angry hubby out of my Father's house.
