Yes, spot on, I've often wondered why Scotland aren't getting their own dedicated news service. There should be more regional programmes from BBC Scotland.

However, now that the austerity measures are in full bite, I guess they will say they cannot afford such a 'luxury'.

I think that they could pay for this by sending fewer people to cover major world events, where the number of BBC staff embarrassingly outnumber all the other broadcasters.

The BBC needs to have a sense of proportion and fund the things that matter. More regional and local programming would be very popular indeed.

Same three channels carried on Freeview too though only on the newer HD boxes (mid 50s for channel numbers IIRC).

Also much of NI can receive the pure signals from ROI meaning that nothing is blacked out and also get HD variants and TV3 too.

I would welcome having these channels through Virgin Media on a subscription basis, although I have to say that Tara TV wasn't much to shout about!

Additionally, having been impressed with the Australian drama 'Underbelly', I would like an Australian general entertainment channel or two broadcasting over here as well!

We're obviously veering well off topic, but our government should, through the democratic process, generally reflect the will of the people. In general I think we're a tolerant, accepting nation who welcomes people who want to come and live here, work hard and contribute. And since we've routinely voted in governments who have allowed this to happen, and we don't generally live amidst racial and community tension (although of course it does exist) I think I'm right in thinking that, regardless of naive that might sound.

They do, It's called Reporting Scotland and it follows the BBC National News at 6.30pm every weekday night.

I think it's too early to make a judgement on the new local channels, but I think the issue is quality.

People won't be too interested in some old geezer's opinion of why there's litter on the street, but good quality programming of a local nature would be hard to resist.

The problem really is the economics of it all, and that's what they really need to sort out. If you just throw pennies at the provision of local TV, I don't have to tell you what you will get, and no-one will watch it.

The local programmes we used to get in our area about a decade ago were worse than dire. In fact, it made Wire TV look good!

Mad Max, the half hour before Reporting Scotland is taken up by issues that are England only, areas Scotland Wales and NI have devolution, but have to sit through report after report of irrelevant news to their lives.

That just isn't true, there have been reports on the BBC National News that have been related to Scotland, maybe not a very large % of what they report but they certainly have reported on Scottish issues.

What's the point in that? Surely each nation in the UK can report on what interests them, inward and outward, instead of the London only lens...

I worked not he King Report at the BBC, so many examples of reports being ignored by the London news agenda. We had a disaster in Scotland about 4 years ago, struggled to get a mention. etc etc etc

Back at you, you said in your last post that they do not report on anything from Scotland, in reply I said you were wrong, they reported on the Clutha helicopter crash in Glasgow, it got a lot of coverage, they also reported on the Glasgow School of Art fire, there's been numerous reports about issues in Scotland, those two examples that I have just posted proves me right!

Some stories do get through, but not the agenda set in Scotland important here. those are brief highlights, Scottish Budget missed by London so many times. In general I can go; all day on Radio 4, not mention of Scotland, 3/5 nights on the 6pm news either short voice over news or 30 second report. Most often than not not the lead story in the Scottish Newspapers.

Since the King Report, news agenda has gotten better, obviously in the run up to the indyref agenda is screwed... but why send so many reporters outwit Scotland here, duplicating the resources to cover the Commonwealth games and the Indyref!

I know what you are saying, but surely that's all part of being in the UK, the BBC main news, as it's often called, focuses on issues from all over the globe, look at the conflicts in the middle east for example, it's never out of the news, maybe they do report more on English news items, I've never really thought about it that way, but surely the Reporting Scotland news that follows should satisfy your needs for everything about what's happening in Scotland, isn't that good enough?
