Well £450 later I have installed part 1 of my home automation system.

7 Philips Hue Colour and White Ambiance Wireless Lighting LED Colour Changing Light Bulbs (4xGU10's & 3xE27's)

Then 2 Amazon Echo Dots, both can control all light by simple voice control, or if away from home the app.

Happy and sad thought here my Mum's care has increased to 5 times daily 04:15, 08:00, 11:15, 17:00 and 20:15. I'm happy that my Mum is getting this care but sad that my Mother needs this level of care now.

This package should help my Dad out as well.

Thanks den the 04:15 will be extremely good as now at least my Mum is getting checked through the night as well as day time. I'm truly grateful that the hospital arranged this further care.

I know how difficult it is to get care visits, we had to lay it on thick to get daily visits to my late mother, so well done to you to get this for your mum. :tu:

I know what you're going through, on July 15th 2015, my mum went in to hospital in the Royal Free in London, a 4-5 hour round trip on the tube.

I could only get in 2 times a week, due to work and lack of holidays.

She came to our local hospital 10 min walk away on October 21st 2015, a day after I was signed off work for 2 weeks with stress, I was so stressed I nearly quit my job, but my sister dragged me to my Dr's.

Exeter won the premiership play off final v Wasps. As I complete neutral when it comes to rugby union, I'm so glad that a club which has come from nowhere has won against all the odds. Although I don't think the play off system is fair, I do think the games we've seen have been electrifying.

Well done Exeter and commiserations to Wasps!

It was den my Mum's speech is very slurred and she can barely speak due to the cancer and the powerful drugs she needs for her pain, but for some reason last night my Mum was quite clear well to people that know her if you know what I mean and she said my son's name then said I love you. Honestly den it is a moment I will treasure for ever. My son said I love you too Granny then just for a brief moment they looked at each other with nothing but love then my son went and gave his Granny another cuddle. It has been a long time since my Mum has spoken that clearly. Today sadly she is back to struggling to talk but last nights visit was amazing.

I feel your stress.

When my mum was in a London hospital, she was nil by mouth for 10 weeks, only being fed via the veins, which resulted in very little energy, even speaking was a struggle, to the point my dad was convinced we where hiding that she had a stroke, but this wasn't the case.

Speedy recovery to you mum.

Thanks for your kind words Hom3r but sadly my Mum is not going to get better all we can wish for is that she is as comfortable as possible. At the moment that seems possible as over the weekend they fitted her with a morphine pump and upgraded her bed mattress to the air one.

My happy thought one of my sister in law's has just saved me a lot of money. I have been using total dailies 1 contact lenses and she asked how much I was paying for my lenses, I said £45.00 a month she very nearly fell off her seat when I told her this so she told me how much she was paying and where she went so needless to say I went their last week and after a week of wearing ACUVUE OASYS fortnightly I really cannot fault them. I went back today and have just signed up for them via DD that way they get delivered right to my door and total hassle free plus at £32.49 every three months that is a saving of over £100. Okay they are not dailies but at the saving I am making I think I can live with that :)

I think I owe my sis-in-law a very nice bottle of wine :)

Did my good deed for the day today, was working when 2 young girls (like no more than 6 or 7 years old) came up to me and said they had lost their mum. I walked them down to where they had last seen her and she was there looking for them. Never seen such relief on a mum's face. She was really grateful.

It feels wrong to write this in a happy thought thread but last night a Marie Curie Nurse stayed with my Mum from 9:45 to 7am this morning to allow my Dad to get a full nights sleep. It has been arranged that this will be done three times per week, I'm pleased that my Dad it is getting help and getting a good nights sleep as I was worried that he might not be able to rest but he said today that he was quite surprised that he went out like a light and got up at 6:30 he said this made a huge difference knowing that his wife is getting cared for by professionals. My sister and I have been going over and staying one night a week between us but our Dad was up and down like a yo yo checking on our Mum, I'm just glad that he is getting some rest & managing to get some sleep. My Dad is right these people are the professionals and truly worth their weight in gold imo.

Yes they are wonderful and it's great that the service is there for you. Mrs Osem volunteers for a local hospice a few hours a week and she'd be the first to sing the praises of those who choose to devote themselves to such a worthy cause whether paid or not. There are plenty of caring people about and frankly we don't hear enough about them.

Visited St Ives today as at long last we have a sunny warm day. Drove along the very scenic and twisty B3306 from St Just. Stopped at the Gurnard's Head Hotel as there is a great walk down to the headland after which the hotel is named. You often see seals and dolphins in the bay but not today.

St Ives was really busy and I had to park up in the main carpark on the hill and walk into town. Warm in the sun. :Sun:

By the time I started back the skies had already clouded over. They say there's rain coming. Again.

Is is nice Den and Hamworthy Park was excellent - right next to a lovely beach and equipped with a huge paddling pool, lovely big kids play area and outdoor sports zone, cafe etc. A terrific facility.

The staff at our holiday park were very good with Osem Jnr #2 which made life a whole lot easier than it might have been. I don't think many people appreciate how hard it is dealing with a 6ft 2in young man who's as strong as an ox but behaves likes a child, however they were exceptional so we'll be writing a letter of thanks mentioning them to the company. Seeing him scaling the climbing wall like a rat up a drainpipe was a sight to behold. He's virtually fearless and if he'd been born without his various problems I have a feeling life in the armed forces would have suited him very well indeed... :)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Just heard from Osem Jnr that he's passed his final teaching assessment and is now a qualified teacher so he'll be taking up his offer of employment in September.

We're obviously really proud of him and I have a feeling he'll go far in an environment in which men are hugely underrepresented and young boys have very few male role models to look up to.

You must be very proud of him - but don't forget all the hard work you and yours have done to support him.

Give him (and yourself) a big pat on the back - well done to you all.

I've joined Flame Introductions (featured on The Undateables). I have to go for the interview on 11th July but here's hoping this is the start of something :)

Cheers guys. We are very proud and to be honest he deserves all the credit, all we've done is try to motivate and support him as best we can. I still can't believe how quickly the time has gone - it only seems like yesterday that I was walking him to/from school every day...

No need to worry I took a hit for the team this morning. My veins decided to disappear and after a frustrating and painful attempt lasting best part of an hour an anaesthetist was called and he managed to get a good flow from just above my ankle. Thank goodness I didn't need a catheter fitting.

Still, I'm home now and looking forward to 3 whole days enjoying the predicted nice weather with no hospital visits, no needles and no infusions. Yippeeeeeee
