Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2
Why would they agree a deal for Pop Movies4Men and Movie Mix but none of the other missing Sony channels?

I used to get a message every day when I got my TiVo last March; they were automated messages advertising the various help videos. |

But Movie Mix will be on some may call "an Virgin Media UK only channel" - it only on Freeview right now. Movie Mix aka More than Movies was axe from Sky early this year. |

Are Virgin Media UK missing any "adult subscription channels"? Don't the Phone in Adult channels goes under Tellyshopping? If so the say channel will need to pay Virgin Media UK to get on network. ---------- Post added at 21:44 ---------- Previous post was at 21:42 ---------- Quote:

As far as Movie Mix is concerned, I was saying that it is more mix than movies. ---------- Post added at 23:52 ---------- Previous post was at 23:40 ---------- Quote:
There's probably more need to verify the EPG details for a channel such as Fox News than additional channels from existing providers such as Sony & C5. ---------- Post added 16-08-2016 at 00:00 ---------- Previous post was 15-08-2016 at 23:52 ---------- Quote:
Update: Check the encrypted channels in the 900's on Lyngsat's listing of Sky channels by channel number: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/Sky-UK_chno.html Babestation and its clones are funded from premium rate calls but wouldn't be appropriate for the shopping genre. ---------- Post added at 00:09 ---------- Previous post was at 00:00 ---------- Quote:

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2
I did some research about three years ago when I briefly considered becoming involved in the business of telephone call charge funded channels (not soft porn).
The business model is that the girl, clairvoyant etc are effectively self employed and only earn a cut of the phone calls, so it's in their interest to take as many calls as possible and keep them on the line for as long as possible. Many pay a fee to the company too in return for being given the chance to earn some money, so they have to cover this before they start to earn a profit. Sometimes a cut is taken by their telephone service provider too in return for the facilities that they provide, unless the equipment is leased or bought outright. The usual costs of insurance, premises, EPG fees, uplink costs, electricity, Ofcom licenses, business rates, PPL & PRS fees for the music played etc etc all have to be met from this income stream as well (I think some will show adverts too to raise a little additional revenue). jj20x is correct in that Sky only receive the normal EPG fee and any Platform Contribution Charge payable. These types of channels would also have to pay VM for the privilege of going onto a private closed system, so you can see why, with all the associated costs having to be already met, there is less of them on cable. |
