It is British, what has that got to do with anything?

Indeed. There seems to be some strange type of nationalism where British programs are seen as better than American.

However I'd much rather watch pretty much any US series rather than the tripe that passes for good british programming these days. The likes of tourchwood and doctor who which are held as bastions of British television are abominations with some of the worst writing ever seen, 95% filler, 5% rushed ending that makes no sense.

American shows are much better than British ones in general, hence why for me Sky One is one of the best channels there is.

TBH i do not really watch many series american or british, and of course any view is a subjective one when it comes to programming, the last good one i watched was judge john deed a few years back! Also julia bradburys series the wainwright walks is superb with breathtaking scenery currently on bbc 4.

I much prefer the knowledge based channels where there is indeed a good mix of british and american programmes to be had, looking forward to nat geographic HD, so i would agree with you nationalism should not come into it after all a good programme is a good programme regardless of nationality.

The one exception to that was the american version of "fawlty towers" which was so pc it made your eyes water, and the comedy had been completely written out of it you may have seen it,if not i doubt it will ever re-surface on uk tv again.LOL:D

Just a quick thought re: FX HD

How involved is Fox with Sky? I mean i was suprised to see FX HD amondg the list because of Fox's close ties re Murdoch & Sky.

Does this mean there might be a way in re Sky Channels in the future?

It will be interesting to watch some Upscaled V+ SD pictures against the HD stuff...

Sometimes channels like BBC SD look SO good on my V+ box it's hard to tell they are not HD.

American remakes of pretty much anything seem to miss the point and lose all the humour.

I will say that good old fashioned classic british comedy is second to none. The likes of fawlty towers (can you think of any other show that would dare to have the opening title say "flowery ****s"?), dads army, allo allo, are you being served, open all hours... you just can't beat them. But sadly I doubt we'll ever reach those heights again as most of them would be ruled completely un-pc that I doubt they'd get away with most of the comedy in them.

What seems to pass for comedy these days with things like the mighty boosh and the inbetweeners just doesn't compare, and definitely won't stand the test of time.

That's what we need though, gold in HD!

Personally I think the biggest benefit in these channels will be finally being able to watch FX in widescreen.

I think Virgin are still in talks with Eurosport and History about their HD channels.

I also think Virgin are holding back on carrying Channel 4 HD until Channel 4 broadcast more things in HD.
