Does anyone know if I can I still get the discount? If not then it could be a bit unfair as you could say that the people who are taking the HD sports and movies are paying for it but being given a £7 discount on the cost of VIP. Why not just give everyone on VIP the £7 discount automatically?

Not sure what your point is???? You need the charge added, then discounted off, so it's not a decrease in the VIP charge.

But...

It now means everyone has had a price decrease on sky sports or some sort of free offer except those on xl tv!!!!!

I'm pleased for my friends on VIP but it just means the ustomers on xl are the worst off when it comes to sky sports hd. People on m and l packages only need to pay a pound or 2 more to get the hd channels as they had a sky sports package decrease. VIP get 6 months hd free...

Xl package people get nothing...

XL is excellent value for money, see Frogstamper's post for the reasons! #164

Without a shadow of a doubt XL-TV is easily the best value TV package VM do, M, M+ and L all have to pay £7pm for TV Choice, XL-TV gets it free, M, M+ and L pay 20p a song its free on XL and lastly XL gets four free ESPN channels.
I'm happy enough to have a pop at VM when they get it wrong, but in the case of the TV-XL package they certainly have not.
I mean what more do you think VM should add to XL for free?

I agree that the "basic" XL package is great value, but M/M+/L subscribers have had a substantial price cut for Sky's SD premium channels in the last couple of months, and now VIP customers are getting a £7/month discount for Sky's HD channels. Meanwhile XL TV subscribers have got zip. Even a token gesture of a £2/month drop in the Sky SD subscription post the OFCOM decision would've "softened the blow".

XL TV is a great package, but it isn't just VIP customers who have been hard done by over the past couple of months when compared to other VM customers.

Sky has'nt reduced it's prices though... the money has to go in to a escrow account while sky appeals. If Sky win then VM will have to pay it back.

XL customers were already getting Sky premiums at near cost to VM, they lowered it on the other tiers to be more competitive.

XL customers have not been hard done by, not by a mile! XL pack remains very good value indeed.

You've had :

All the basic HD channels - no extra charge

ESPN (inc HD ) - no extra charge

TV Choice on demand - no extra charge

Music On Demand - no extra charge

All this with more inclusive HD channels coming, including Sky1.

You've never had it so good :)

I've always thought XL has been great value with a V+ box. All the On demand stuff and the PVR have always been what I've paid for so anything additional, like HD, is a bonus.

Next Saturday I'll be getting a second V+ box installed with all that the wonderful service XL brings for only an extra £5.50 per month. How good is that.:D

I agree, the XL package is pretty good value. The VIP, which I was on a year or so ago, does seem to have lost a bit of it's value. If they come up with a good package with the forthcoming VIP (TIVO box included?) then I may go back. One thing that does need sorting on the VIP is the additional V+ box. On triple XL, which I'm on, the second V+ box is £5.50/month; isn't it an extra £10 if you're on VIP?

my point is, and I think most of us agree, that the vip package isn't the good value it used to be (including VM or they wouldn't be looking at redesigning the package) so why not give all vip customers a discount while they sort out the package?

If I watched more sky sports and movies i'd be willing to pay the £7 but I can't justify the extra cost at the moment.

Also my main question (which seems to have been missed) is can I still get the discount without taking the HD channels?

What extra cost?

Surely if you're on VIP then it doesn't matter how little you watch them, you can still take the HD channels now and it won't cost you anything until the package is revamped (unless you're scared of a new 12month contract).

So are you saying that I can go online to the webpage mentioned earier and apply to have the HD channels added and they will automatically discount my account for the cost?

I'm not scared of a new 12 month contract, its the fact that they are only going to give you the discount for 6 months, so you could end up paying more for the package in the second 6 months after they review the vip package and there is no gaurentee that they will improve the vip package as it is now or reduce its cost, they have only said that they are reviewing it.

Email the CEO's office first to make sure.

I don't think there is much chance that you'd end up paying more, the fact that they're giving the discount means they know they need to add value to the package. Unless it's all just some con to get people to sign up for another 12 months before jacking up the prices 6 months into the contract ;)

Clearly it is going to happen, at least for the next six months for those that complained.

Just a little VIP side issue maybe someone can enlighten me on, I've just read a thread on the billing section called "Is this right for VIP", it seems people are ringing in and complaining that they are being charged £92.49pm when the price being advertized on VM's website is £89.50.
Apparently this is a mistake that occured in April 10 and the poster claims to have had his VIP bill reduced to £89.50 and reimbursed the £2.99pm charge from April.
Has anybody on VIP heard this, and is everybody else paying a basic £92.49pm?

Thread in question is under "Billing Issues", "Is this right for VIP", the poster is whitfip, the below post is on page five post *48

I then phoned customer services back and asked for Retentions and asked for their help as I had nobody else to turn too. They immediatley understood my problem and told me a £2.99 price increase had been applied in error in April 2010. He reversed the price increase and credited my overpayments. My bill is back down to £89.50

Hope this helps and as I've joined this thread late on I hope I've not repeated an answer already submitted.
