Re: What Media did you last get??
You'll find most VHS from mid to late 90s onward were digitally mastered. Advances in technology etc.

Yup its really sad Steve....
The tracking must not have been right cause when I put it in again to watch FULL,it was thinner and had that look I dont like...... Thankfully I do have a copy of this movie either from digital cable or directv (I cant remember which) and it looks much nicer so until I get something from ANALOGUE CABLE of this movie, this will do.... |
Re: What Media did you last get??
Dont even know what you mean by thinner?
Digital is great though. I could never go back to a CRT with non HD or 4K. Yes I have Laser Discs and DVDs but they look terrible compared to my Blu Ray's and 4K UHD discs. |

I dont think that would work Hugh!! I thankfullly got a GOOD copy of FAIR GAME (1995) that was "DIGITALLY PROCESSED" on the official VHS releases and looks horrible.... On the later releases under 'WARNER BROS HITS' they did not!! I got a copy from 290602 and its goregous.. Both on audio and video!! (Hardily any raw digital in the analogue audio) |
Re: What Media did you last get??
To be fair, most new TVs come with a filmmaker mode that strips back all the digital processing for picture and sounds so that when watching movies they appear as the director intended. Most new 4K UHD discs are very well restored from the original 35mm film and given a lot of care so they look the best they possibly can. The new anniversary edition of Sing in the Rain in 4K looks simply stunning. There are details and objects that now are so clear but you'd swear they were there before. Where as on the old DVD it's so bad looking as it was just scanned off what ever copy they had. Fuzzy, wrong colours etc.
Star Wars the same, every version, from my Laser disc to VHS to DVD, Blu Ray to 4K Blu Ray are all different colours due to different colour correction on them all. I think DVD was the worst as it had a very green tint to it. |
Ya I hear ya buddy........
I got 2 cassettes today :) 1) Johnny Mathis - Give me your love for christmas (I also have the record) 2) Bad Company - Fame and fortune (I also have the record) I had this cassette once before but it sounded horrible...... The record of this album (Which is DMM (Direct Metal Mastering)) sounds goregous!! Ill see if this copy on cassette sounds better :) |
Yes it does sound better.. The one I had before was not a US release,I dont remember where it came from....... (Usually US ones are the worst)
|

Re: What Media did you last get??
The Beatles brand New Single - Now and Then on clear 7".
Gorgeous song. Also last month I got the re-recorded Album The Beautiful Letdown on swimming pool coloured vinyl. It was the 20th anniversary this year so the band decided to re-record and created new versions of all the songs. Instead of just re-releasing it. |
Excellent Stevie :)
