*Ideal World HD^

^I was told about Ideal World HD tests on November 15th.

My sources has only allow me to post this information on Cable Forum due to Ideal World HD being listed on Digital Bit Rates.

Information from DBR and Media Boy UK Sources.

oin an ideal world the shopping channels would all go to fast channels and free up space on platforms such as freeview.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I've not been keeping up with changes at VM.

For the V6 and 360 TV customers are there now only two packs of entertainment channels available - the one that's pretty much Freeview, and the one with all the pay channels?

There is now Mix and Mega.

You can still add some options onto Mix e.g. Children's channels and TNT etc, but the other Personal Picks have been withdrawn.

But more channels have been added to Mix that when it first launched.

Thanks Ben, and to others for sharing links.

All of these different legacy tiers and the current ones make it quite confusing: Player, Mix, Full House, Mixit, Maxit, Mega TV 😂

I'm kind of glad there are now only two being sold, but the site could be clearer.

You can be sure that it won't be long before they change them again though.

Must be a nightmare for staff having to use all these different pack codes.

So is this going to be another sky sports channel or will they just rename one of the other ones? are any of the sky sports channels losing their rights?

My Sources say Sky Sports are making their mind up on to rebrand the other Sky Sports Channel or to launch a new Sky Sports Channel.

Thanks MB

I’d imagine one will get shuttered down. I still don’t like the naming. I preferred the old days of sky sports 1, sky sports 2 etc. I’m old haha. It wasn’t that hard to find the match you wanted to watch… now a ton of channels just have repeats of shows which have constantly been on before. The f1 channel being the worse

I'd be amazed if it costs very much at all. The software is as developed as it's going to get and Virgin have Tivo over a barrel in any negotiation since they have a ready made replacement. Anything Tivo do get is "free money".

Sky Sports agree new Premier League rights deal

Sky Sports to show 70% more matches – a record 215 games - in a new four year-deal from 2025/26.

More Premier League action than any other broadcaster, with at least four matches every week.

MB do you know when the WWE contract with TNT is up? I'm intrigued if Sky will get the contract again. As much as WWE will go for the highest bid due to it being a public company but surely WWE would prefer Sky over Time Warner who are their "rivals" in the states

WWE may cut a deal if they get a designated channel? Sky Sports WWE?

interesting! whoever gets it may want to include the network in their streaming services.

But if you consider the options

sky sports- they only have NOWTV so can't see them being able to include the WWE network in their streaming service since its not that big?

TNT- Warner streaming...seems lacking at the moment?

Amazon Prime or Netflix may be options but theyve not made any steps into wrestling before.

Disney- a possibility as they have the relationship with WWE as they own the network rights in thailand i think? so it has been built into Disney plus before. But with Disney + cost cutting and having no live channel in the UK anymore?

The 1970s/80s are well covered on TV and Radio. 60s and earlier aren't catered for well. It makes sense for That's TV to supply the decade that isn't on VM from other broadcasters.

The legacy Arris manufactured V6 boxes can run both TiVO & Horizon firmware (if you are lucky, as some fail to cope with the firmware migration).

The newer Humax manufactured boxes will only run Horizon firmware.

Therefore most Arris boxes are now reserved as V6 TiVO fault replacements, & anyone already on V360 gets a Humax if the box fails.

They'd have to give you plenty notice, losing access to their existing recordings, especially is they have a lot of them, would annoy a lot of people. Most of the ones on our V6 aren't on On-Demand so it isn't a case of replacing them with that. And the Series Links are extensive, not a "scribble down in a notepad" exercise.

aye yeah makes sense. our 3 v6's are great in our house. i dislike the whole moving to streaming boxes. already lost our house phone as its now "digital". if the internet goes down we're screwed!

No idea but:

Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount in merger talks

The owners of QUEST may end up also owning Channel 5

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2023)

Noticed Virgin have added True Detective seasons 1-3 to On Demand, branded as 'Sky Showcase' , advertised on the home page, True Detective: Night Country is airing on Sky Showcase from 15th according to advert.

I wonder what deal Virgin have agreed with Sky , isn't Virgin wider deal with Sky due for renewal by the summer of 2024....

..

Yes, and True Detective was first shown on Sky Atlantic. I can certainly vouch for the first series - I never did get around to viewing the second. I will add that to my watchlist! Thanks, TimeLord.

With Sky adding True Detective to Sky Showcase is a funny one.

I mean Sky Showcase is like a "best of" channel.

I would have think If True Detective is moving from Sky Atlantic it would appear on Sky Witness.

Isn't moving it's airing on Sky Atlantic aswell...., they showcase select HBO Originals and Select Sky Atlantic Originals on Sky Showcase in Germany, previously haven't done it before in the UK for obvious reasons....

What i can't work is how they can add it On Demand, when Sky Showcase doesn't have its own Demand section.

I don’t think Sky necessarily compartmentalise things in the same way.

It does now.

On Demand > Box Sets > Sky Showcase

As well as E! and NBC News Now closing, Virgin are sending letters out saying that Lionsgate+ is closing on the 31st of January 2024.

Maybe Virgin's deal with Lionsgate+ ends on that date.

Sky will removed it when the owners of Lionsgate+ closes it.

I suspect Lionsgate + was ultimately unsuccessful because they were not adding enough new material.

No, AppleTV+ has been adding material regularly. I quite like the streamer.

It has some decent content with the Apple Originals, just not very much. I will easily be able to watch everything that interests me within my 3 month trial period. After that...

We know that next year, Lionsgate and Viaplay will go and that My5 and Pluto will merge.

AMC's Shudder is niche enough to survive (as are other niche operatiors like Mubi, BFI, etc) but its mainstream Acorn service is probably better off as part of Now TV or Discovery+ or bundled with subscription TV services.

Paramount is in a similar situation to Acorn. It has close ties to Sky so could end up being a membership level on Now and a tier on its owner's Pluto TV service.

It will be more interesting to see what WBD does with its HBO content - will it licence it exclusively to Sky as now? Will it keep it in-house and launch it via its Discovery + streamer? Or will it licence it to Sky and add it to its own streamer?

For the record, here's how much each leading streamer's parent company is valued at on the stock exchange. I'm pretty surprised at WBD and Comcast - I expected Disney to be ahead of Comcast and WBD to be worth a lot more.

Apple $3.00 trillion
Amazon $1.59 trillion

Netflix $214.98 billion
Comcast $176.82 billion
Walt Disney $166.47 billion

Warner Brothers Discovery $28.04 billion
Paramount $10.01 billion
AMC $1.21 billion

Amazon adding adverts unless viewers pay a £2.99 a month premium to remove them.

Amazon, Apple and Comcast's valuations will be held up somewhat by their other operations (retail, tech and as a cable operator in the US). Netflix valuation is out of step with its revenue, profit and debt levels - there's no real underlying asset. Disney have decades of content, theme parks, etc.

Everyone else is nowhere.

WBD hired a Original productions chief for Max that covers Italy which is a Sky territory as part of their new Southern Europe team
https://deadline.com/2023/12/warner-...ia-1235679584/

Certain content may well be shared, Sky apparently have life Of series rights to House Of Dragon non exclusively , I suspect Sky will want to keep showing HBO documentaries & Warner Bros movie premieres aswell for example

I'd prefer if they kept the Discovery+ name & 'upgraded' to MAX technology platform but they seem intent on this name unless threatened with Legal action like the Netherlands/Belgium.

Max in France will stream Eurosport live for example

I was suprised to learn WBD actually acquired all of Blu TV in Turkey so will likely get rebranded as MAX

I hope so as I enjoyed watching Black Mirror and other programmes over Christmas.

This thread should be renamed Going Soon From Virgin TV (2024)
With all the decent content and numerous channels, we've lost in the last year, will 2024 be nearing the end of Virgin TV as we've known it. Perhaps it would be wiser now for VM to concentrate OTT and Streaming Services with Broadband and relaunch its Stream service.

Your point is noted, I think the next one should just be "Virgin TV 2024" then it can cover all elements, coming, going or other.
