I'd love to get RTE in the UK, but it'll never happen due to the extra costs of rights to show their programming to more people. They get most of the UK channels though!

The only way that I can think of doing it would be by using a VPN that fools the internet into thinking that you're in Ireland or by using a Sky box & card registered in Ireland and paying an Irish subscription. If the ROI was used, a bank account that deals in Euros would be needed. If NI was used you wouldn't need this, but wouldn't get the full complement of Irish channels.

At one point earlier this year VM were carrying one of their Irish VM entertainment channels on their UK network, i've no idea why.

You wouldn't, it was on the VM UHD channel out-of-hours. JJ20X and the scans he looks at noticed it, as I recall, a month or two ago. It wasn't UHD, just on the stream.

TiVo has reveal that The Travel Channel is set to close on August 27th on Virgin Media UK (Pick up by Media Boy HQ on Friday).

We have not seen any thing on this thread about it.

Since Saturday has anyone seen that Yesterday +1 (Channel 200) listings only says "to be announced"?

Thanks Media Boy.

The position in the EPG would be a convenient swap for Food Network+1 to launch on VM, given the other Discovery-owned +1s are below it.

Will JJ20X has reported that Virgin are doing something with Sony Channel +1 old slot so it maybe early Food Network +1 tests.

As VH1 was broadcasting when MTV CLASSIC tests appeared on Virgin Media before MTV CLASSIC being given VH1 EPG slot when VH1 was axe in January.

Eh? JJ20X only mentioned the flags changed to hide the channel and close slate from the EPG, nothing that suggested anything else.

Oops I misread but you ever know ;) this is Virgin we are talking about.

But we know an other broadcaster (ViacomCBS) did ask them to do it in the past so you ever know.

Yes. But the topic of this thread isn't about specific TV listings. MB likely accidentally posted on this thread rather than the Sport News thread, and subsequently did copy and paste it there.

If it were Premier Sports are adding on-demand content to VM for the first time, starting with those listed matches, then that would fit this thread.

Presumably, this is because there isn't anything new to show.

However, surely all this content is available on-demand?

Like most linear channels , I think the days of linear sports channels are numbered. If DAZN’s proposed UK and international launch is successful, I could see them pouncing on major rights including Champions/Europa Leagues, Matchroom Sport events etc. They’ve already hoarded rights in Germany, so it could possibly happen in order to compete with Sky and Eurosport in several European countries.

Are Sports linear channels days numbered ? I'd say if anything they are the safest with live events.

A large part of the attraction of most sports is the fact that are live, especially tournaments and leagues.

Whether it is delivered by cable/satellite/aerial/IPTV is a different debate but I think most people acknowledge that given the country's infrastructure, all have a role to play for some time.

That would be the same DAZN that has the begging bowl out just to stay afloat. Their US operation is on the verge of collapse, The boxing adventure (while good news for Eddie Hearn's accounts) is struggling to make the numbers, or the fights, that Showtime, ESPN and Fox are doing.

The delivery method is pretty much irrelevant , the reason Sky and BT offer a linear service be that over satellite , cable or IP is because it gives the subcriber the feeling they are getting more for their money and used to showcase future events and attract advertisers.

Equally pointless is the annual re-branding of some of Sky's movie channels at Christmas.

Cost is obviously negligible

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: Channel 160 to be called Sky Two on Virgin Media UK.

Virgin Media Sources has confirmed to Media Boy HQ today that "No date has been announced" on when Virgin Media will update the EPG on Channel 160 to say "Sky Replay".

So Sky Replay has launch on Channel 160 but it called Sky Two on Virgin Media.

Hardly ground breaking stuff ‘EXCLUSIVE’ when a rebrand isn’t done on the EPG

It will prob change at the same time as Sky Sports Action changes to NFL or maybe even before

Sky Sports NFL and Sky Sports NFL HD have replaced Sky Sports Action and Sky Sports Action HD.

Virgin Media has used a black and white logo with a tiny NFL icon on the EPG, in a different style to all the other Sky Sports logos.

Sky Two is still yet to be updated to Sky Replay on the EPG.

On SkyQ the logo doesn't match the others - although the logo is the same as being used on-air.

SKY is blue and the background is transparent - other sports logos are white SKY in blue background. The result is the blue SKY is getting lost in the blue background for NFL.

Hmm you would think so because NFL is quite a short season isnt it. its barely 4 months long which is just odd considering its "americans number 1 sport". Based on that you would think it would change over but i think part of the NFL contract with Sky is to have its own channel aka NFL Network in the UK full time.

Arent the drafts in April too. so they'll probably talk about the draft from April to September and all the pre season stuff. i think this will be more like sky f1 which goes on about 8 months of the year and for 4 months of the year is just repeats. Though to be honest i'm annoyed at the lack of classic F1 races shown. i want 1970s and 1980s matches! Except its always "Oh look its the 2011 italian grand prix...again"

This has always been a non exclusive package... Amazon carries the shows and TalkTalk struck a deal with them in 2018 with Sky getting rid of them some time back. Interesting to see if this is just Virgin’s deal ending or whether the deals with the other providers are expiring as well.

If the ABC content deal is ending, presumably this means that a new Disney deal to cover their remaining services has been agreed.

Their kids channels are closing soon too, but that's on every UK platform.

It's not currently available with the latest V6 code update that is rolling out. A fix is being looked at with the app developers as far as I'm aware.

How annoying. Given the poor selection of radio stations in the EPG I use the Radioline app a lot, so hopefully they will fix it soon.

It's apparently available on Horizon so I'd be very surprised if this wasn't fixed. My reasoning being if it's on the new platform it's not like VM haven't got a continuing deal in place with the developers.

Didn't know they were on Twitter. What does "native podcast" mean I wonder. Own content? Or simply that there is a podcast section now?

Is "Purchase Controls" (below "Parental Controls") in the "Help & Settings" menu renamed? I recall the function it provides being there, but not labelled like that or in that position.

the pandemic has made the "coming soon to virgin media" thread more bleak than usual. If works had worked out we could have been watching NBC Sky News which would have been bonkers ....sky previously owned by murdoch who owned fox....nbc news usually liberal...would have been quite unstable which would have been comedy gold.

With the US elections coming up we need better american tv channels! The picture of CNN is rubbish too...plus CNN international focuses on stock markets most of the time.....the real question is why?!

krismestry 22-09-2020 21:17

The best American news channel is Fox owned by Rupert Murdoch. It is the only one that is non pc, the only one putting foreword right wing views.

i'd agree its the best because its an absolute parody of a news channel. theres having a right wing news channel and then there is a news channel which is blatantly bs....

on other topics of coming soon been told that the horizon software is coming to v6's from the virgin media forum. Surely that would make sense as the virgin 360 is just one main box and then other boxes to stream off? A cheaper alternative to having 2 or more main tivos? no idea whats happening now!

ozsat 23-09-2020 06:41

Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2020)

With the 360s each are their own box requiring the VM co-ax connected to watch tv. The mini box only streams home recordings from the main box but you can still watch live tv with the mains box switch off.

It's good that they offer the additional mini-boxes, but as the main one is only 1Tb, I would require two main boxes that you can use in the same way as two V6s (eg you can see all your recordings from the each box.

ozsat 23-09-2020 08:10

Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2020)

As with Sky - you can only have one main box. May change later perhaps.

Not sure I'd want coax cable running all over my house or inside my house for each of the mini boxes.

No different than currently is for people with additional boxes though.

Yes, I know. A satisfactory alternative for me would be a 2Tb box, but there's no sign of that yet. I would be happy also with on demand or cloud 'recording' but unfortunately I fear that such bookmarking would be time limited. I would be content with a 2 year period, but certainly no less.

If, as rumoured, they update the 1Tb V6 box with Horizon software. I wonder what will happen if you have two (or more) 1Tb V6s updated?

There's been channels called TuneAway before, but this is first I recall with 4K mentioned. Nice spot.

To be fair, having expiry dates shown on boxset and job-lots of movies is nothing new.

Although yes, seeing a bulk load in the Disney section is certainly indicative in the current climate.

Thanks for the link nodrogd.

"To view the action in 4K UHD or HDR, customers with a V6 box will need to press the red button on their remote on either Eurosport 1HD (channel 521), Eurosport 2HD (channel 522) or Virgin TV Ultra HD (channel 205 and 999)."

So, sounds like everyone can access it too.

Will be interesting to see it in 1080p (downscaled) rather than 1080p (upscaled). ;)

It’s just possible that Disney+ will arrive on Virgin on 1 October, allowing continued access to the Disney channels that are closing.

Will Sky UHD and the expanded Sky library start then as well? Nobody knows because I guess they are keeping it a secret for the time being.

Disney+ is not going to be on the VM platform anytime soon as things stand, nothing has come in the office about Disney+ and VM as of yet i will check Monday morning when i'm in work to see if anything shows up.

Talk between us in the office is SKY will launch SKY Kids as a channel on both SKY and VM also Discovery kids has popped up in discussions too, note these are only talks amongst us in the office nothing has actually come through on the systems yet.

Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2020)

From the VM Disney Channels FAQ here
https://www.virginmedia.com/help/disney-channels

What new kids’ content is coming to Virgin Media?
Here’s the good news. We’re bringing you 1,000s of new episodes available on demand, including Blippi, Angry Birds and loads more. Go to On Demand > Kids > Virgin TV Kids on your telly box and Virgin TV Go.

You can also enjoy great content on the new kids’ app Hopster, including hundreds of episodes of Pocoyo and Pingu.

We’ve also recently launched YouTube Kids – a great way for parents and kids to watch, learn and play together.

The best part? All of this comes at no extra cost for Fun, Full House and Kids Pick customers.

Is the Disney+ app on Virgin Media?
The Disney+ app isn’t currently on our TV box. That said, we’re hoping to make this happen in the future, so keep an eye out.
----
Interesting that Hopster is going to be a separate app on VM, it's currently a subsection of the Kids area on STV Player, so maybe STV's deal is expiring or maybe will be limited to other platforms going forward. The STV Hopster selection does seem much smaller than I remember it being. Maybe it's expiring prior to the new deal starting.

Is ketchup! on VM at all? As that's another kids app, what made me chuckle is "at no extra cost" i should hope not as youtube kids and hopster are free anyway.

Also regarding Disney channels, Disney's plan is to close them globally in the long term with all Disney content being on Disney+ This will eventually include SKY Cinema Disney too.
I hope Monday i can give you guys good news regarding D+ on vm.
