Can I ask if STV2 has launch on Virgin Media in Aberdeen, Ayrshire and Dundee?

Virgin has still to update the EPG banner for STV Glasgow.

Sky Sports Box Office HD set to launch on Virgin Media UK.

Virgin Media's Live Events Channels (Virgin UK Channel 0) has confirmed that this coming Saturday night's Joshua VS Klitschko fight will be shown LIVE in HD for the first time ever on Virgin Media UK to viewers using TiVo or V6 Boxes at the cost of £20.95.

All other customers can watch in SD for just £19.95.

I think the competition from BT Sport is forcing Sky Sports to be less exclusive with its HD events, which can be no bad thing.

I'm so glad I'm not a boxing fan as the cost of seeing these events are very expensive. If you're a subscriber to sky sports then it works out extremely expensive (sky sports sub's plus box office fee) .

Virgin has still to update the EPG banner for STV Glasgow.

Another forum member has said "There were some issues on Virgin Media which resulted in some people still seeing the STV2 launch promo after 5pm in the Edinburgh region. I reckon it was their EPG not updating for the new channel, since there are some complaints about people in Aberdeen, Dundee and Ayrshire not getting the channel at all.

They are likely broadcasting on the old STV Edinburgh for a couple days as a result of this. The original intention seemed to be that the old channel would no longer be needed after 5pm."

Last I heard about Aberdeen, Ayrshire and Dundee was that all future launches had been cancelled as they would now be served by STV2.

I would say it is somewhat unlikely to have launched on VM in Aberdeen, I guess (for this thread at least) that launch can be written down as coming soon, but until VM actually extends the network to Aberdeen, they are unlikely to see a launch of STV2 on Virgin Media there.

I'm not sure how the ex Smallworld coverage areas of Ayrshire are fed. Are they still fed from Carlisle or has the feed switched to Uddingston or elsewhere since the takeover? Either way, I'm not sure how (or why) VM would feed a unique channel to a relatively small area, maybe this will have to wait for any additional premises being added under Project Lightning.

I agree mate same with big WWE events if you don't have the network it's quite expensive via ppv at between £14.95 - £19.95 each ppv.
And tv/sports companies/organisations wonder why people are seeking alternative methods.

I emailed Made In Teesside yesterday about locally produced programme's and the reply I got was that it was very a soft launch and would build up local content. He also said he had had very little inquiries from local programme makers which is disappointing. He went on to say "do not give up on us as we will evolve". I hope he's right as the only reason I will tune in is to see programmes about my local area!

Thanks SP, pretty much as I thought (that it would get the same services as the headend to which it is connected). On that point, which headend serves Morecambe and Lancaster? Are they connected to Carlisle or maybe Preston?

Greetings friends. Will we ever see anything coming soon to virgin media again?

I remember the glorious summer of 2011 (?) when this board lit up with the sudden arrival of the BT sport channels. It was the best of days.

Now in 2017....nothing ever comes.

Wheres my fox news? Wheres my sky atlantic? Virgin media get these two channels and then potentially we can close these forums down as we have triumphed.

The French channels were added back in January, check the post on your website.

As an update to your January post:

French Bouquet:

Subscription channels: France 2, France 3, France 5 & Cartoon TV French.
Free channel: BFM TV

Eurochannel has departed from the app since January, so much for that one...

Spanish Bouquet:

Subscription channels: Antena 3, Atreseries (aka A3Series), MIS (Made In Spain) & TVE
Free channel: Canal 24 Horas

Portuguese Bouquet:

Subscription channels: Benfica TV, TVI Internacional, TVI Ficção & Criança TV
Free channel: SiC International (SIC Internacional)

Polish Bouquet:

Subscription channels: TVP Polonia, ITVN, ITVN Extra & Kino Polska International
Free channels: TVN 24, TVP Info & Kino Polska Muzyka International

Russian Bouquet:

Subscription channels: Planeta HD, Moolt, Bestseller & RTR Planeta
Free channels: CTC (STS) & Russia 24

European Bouquet:

Free channels: TGCOM24 (Italian), 1 + 1 (Ukrainian) & TVRI (Romanian)

Arabic Bouquet:

Free channel: Nessma

In your January post you listed VIVA and Coleta as FTA channels, they weren't channels just the names of the Spanish and Portuguese Worldbox apps. These apps were subsequently removed, with all channels being build into the main Worldbox app.

very true sir! Instead of champagne its usually sparkling rose wine though. Instead of caviar substitute "marks and spencers nibbles" and you'd be correct.

Do VM have a channel acquisition team anymore? Remember a few years back then no channels arrived and we learnt it was due to the fact no one was even in discussion with channels to bring them onto VM due to a job vacancy that hadnt been filled...

Interesting but as the announcement on the boxplus website has now been removed, there may have been an agreement to continue on VM. These channels are widely available on streaming apps, perhaps there could be a Box Plus app on the Tivo at some point. If that happens, lets hope that the video and audio are in sync. The last time I tried to use it, channels on the Clubland AKA app were so far out of sync that it was unwatchable (this needs fixing).

Although it's fair to say that all the music videos shown on these channels are available via the You Tube app on the Tivos.

Agree with you on the UHD, but that wasn't available on Sky Q originally straight after it launched either. If you are expecting Sky or BT UHD channels on VM in the near future, you are even more of an optimist than I am! Virgin's UHD will have to come from other providers, methinks, at least in the short term.

I get there but if we rule out sky or bt for UHD, but what other providers is there that don't cost a fortune on a pay per view basis

I asked virgin media about the virgin media store but they know nothing about it, I asked why we can't use TV anywhere to access on demand like itv fox and many more then download compared to the next new version of sky go and they said they are different and TV anywhere is ahead of its time

UHD wasn't available initially on SkyQ because nothing was broadcast in UHD at the time.

This is not the case presently as sky broadcast football and F1 in UHD - they just don't allow Virgin to carry it.

BT show football and Rugby Union in UHD but not broadcast - you need BT tv and Internet.

Exactly it's a fair point, I think it will come maybe 2019 three years after launch and at a few also. It should really be a v6 box with UHD from YouTube or Netflix at £118 a year. I'm not a fan of sky but they do lead in uhd, if you want 4k then virgin media ain't a solution

Sky Cinema is set to launch an Sky Cinema Matt Damon Channel from May 8th.

It will use Sky Channel 303 (Sky Cinema Hits EPG Slot on Sky).

But channel number is still not 100% confirmed for Virgin Media UK and Virgin Media Ireland.

We have still to see any info on when Sky Cinema Matt Demon will end.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

You need very fast BT Internet for for UHD - we get 50mb on BT here and they say it is not fast enough for access to UHD.

They say you may be watch UHD via Internet, recording two HD channels via Internet and still want to browse/stream on other devices.

So set a minimum speed which many BT users, even on Infinity, just can not get.

But that's no good if you want to do searches and go straight into those programmes using only one device (ie the V6).

I have all the programmes I want to see that are carried by Virgin Media and Netflix under 'My Shows' and I can keep track of them all much better in that way. Finding programmes I want to see on Amazon and Now TV is a faff by comparison.

I have a Roku, which has loads of streaming services on there, including Netflix, Amazon and Now TV.

However, that doesn't detract from the fact that if Amazon joined Virgin Media and was available on the Tivo/V6 boxes, that would be a lot less hassle for me. I really don't want to have to go into a number of different streaming platforms to watch the content I want. It should all be available in one place.

Also a search on fire TV brings up results from Netflix and Amazon shows. In the US it covers more services.

A search on my Roku 2 box brings up results from Now TV, Amazon and Netflix, plus purchase options from Google Play. You scroll down the list to chose which provider to watch on.

Very similar to Youview. A search on Youview brings up content from the EPG, catch up TV, Netflix and NowTV

I cant see an obvious issue with VM adding Amazon. I's effectively the same as Netflix, with different content. Netflix can't have affected VM's TV subscriptions, otherwise it would no longer be there. Amazon, like Netflix, only have a few first run weekly shows; it's mainly back seasons, or shows that have never had a UK pickup. Pay TV is about current shows. OTOH Now TV is competition in that it shows lots of current shows

Provided Virgin enabled the Now TV Entertainment Pass for those on the Full House pack only, I see no conflict there. It would give Virgin subscribers the means to access Sky Atlantic via the VM platform, which would certainly stop the wingeing on this forum.

Can't see what all the fuss is about then, I mean, you can get those apps on most smart TV's anyway! It would have been really good news if Virgin were to include Amazon, in say, one of the top packages, but to have a discussion about a measly app for the V6 is trivial to say the least.

Included with top package mate but the app will be available for lower packs for the normal prime/video fee.
But if Amazon are moving into live tv too it could become a lot more complex.

As I've said elsewhere, Max, if Amazon was included on the Tivo and V6s, you would have all your search and bookmark facilities on one box. This makes perfect sense to me, and hopefully we will get there before much longer.

Not true, Dave. Now TV is available on other platforms. No reason why it shouldn't go on the Virgin platform too, as long as Virgin viewers pay the £6.99 per month for the privilege, why should they care? Talk Talk managed it, so I don't see why VM couldn't if they wanted to.

The live Now TV service is not available on any of the main pay TV platforms - BT, TalkTalk, Sky or VM.
(Whilst Now TV Movies is available on BT and TalkTalk, it's just a film library, not a live TV service.)

To be fair, there is a lot of free Prime video included content, including a reasonable number of first run rights shows and Amazon's own content . When coupled with other Prime benefits, they more than justify the subscription cost IMHO

You're missing the point I'm making. If you are subscribing to VM with the Full House package, there is no real reason why the Now TV Entertainment Pass could not be made available to those who wanted a couple of extra channels. VM would not lose money because the viewer's subscription to the Full House package was maintained and Sky would benefit from the £6.99 per month paid by the VM subscriber.

You mustn't forget that the only reason some VM subscribers are lost to Sky is that Sky offer SA. So why would VM not agree to it?

Live TV is on the cable service anyway. Why would we particularly want that service duplicated on the Now TV Entertainment Pass app that I have suggested?

If you meant live Sky Atlantic and ITV Encore, why would there be a need to see those channels live when those programmes are displayed as part of a programme library that you just click on to view at a time that suits you, with no ads?

If Now TV ever went onto VM, Sky would use anyone who signed up to relentlessly sell their full TV service to. With Sky offering full services via broadband in the future, VM would be foolish to entertain the possibility.

Your Sony TV doesn't have a wholesale deal with Sky nor does it sell broadband. BT, TalkTalk and VM all do hence why they don't offer the Now TV app.

I don't think it's a case of Sky don't want anyone else to have Sky Atlantic, more likely they don't want Virgin to have it as,in their view,it would enhance Virgins TV portfolio.

If so, why is it not on TalkTalk?

Do Talk Talk want it? Perhaps they can't afford the money Sky are asking for it? Or perhaps they (Sky) don't want to enhance Talk Talks portfolio either?

We will have to see where Sky go with this. It could be that the full streaming service will be restricted to Sky BB customers. If not, would Sky be creating a monopoly that would inevitably attract the attention of the regulators
