I don't think it'll ever launch TBH.

These service providers are trying to differentiate themselves from each other, if you had an exclusive channel why would you make it available to your competitors*?

*see Sky Atlantic

Same here. Although, if true that 211,000 watched the first episode of FTWD, I'd be very surprised if they managed 11,000 for the second episode. I was actually hoping that the central cast members would be eaten alive well before the end of the first episode.

Rectify isn't bad - Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Shield etc., seen 'em all before but good for someone who hasn't. Hopefully, things will improve with new shows coming on line.

LFC had to backtrack and return the channel to VM due to appalling viewing figures.

VM really need to improve their TV service it has nothing unique these days in my opinion. (Exception maybe all the sports in one bill). They once led with their On Demand service but these days it's probably one of the weaker offerings out there.

Absolutely, after having VM for 20+ years i now have Sky and it's a revelation to be honest. Sky Go is superb and the boxsets are on a par with Netflix and Prime.

The fact that VM don't even have all the Freeview channels is bloody shocking and as for VM Anywhere, as long as you have wifi, is taking the ****. Why it isn't available over 3G is beyond me.

VM's offering is really lagging behind as far as i'm concerned.

And i'm really sorry to say that

I'd say the ratio of people downloading Fear The Walking Dead, compared to those watching legally on AMC here in the UK must be about 100 to 1.... possibly even higher. Everyone I know who is a Walking Dead fan have seen the first 4 episodes yet none of them have AMC!

For those who aren't aware all 4 episodes of Fear The Walking Dead are on YouTube. They're in English but have Spanish subtitles. Picture and sound quality is pretty good. Very watch-able.

Last week AMC UK started to aire fear the walking dead at same time as it airs in USA.
I normally watch it on AMC usa on demand though as the adverts annoy me lol.
I think it's only a matter of time before AMC shows up on VM, i'm actually quite confident it will.

So, for TiVo customers, it could be said that for the time being Fear The Walking Dead IS available on VM :D

Only 100% confirmed new channel launch set to happen anytime soon is Lifetime HD that we have posted early this week is testing and will appear soon (We been given October launch date).

We feel one of the following will happen:

A)
-Lifetime HD will launch on Virgin Channel 294.

B)
-Lifetime will move to Virgin Channel 208.
-Lifetime HD will launch on Virgin Channel 209.

Q: WHY DO YOU THINK LIFETIME MAY MOVE TO VIRGIN CHANNEL 208 FOR?
A: Lifetime has broadcast on Sky on the Entertainment lineup since it Bio. days. Plus Virgin Media has move Sky Arts to the Entertainment lineup early this year (June 2015). Also it will keep Virgin Channel 274 free so that Virgin can move CI to Virgin Channel 274 so that CI HD can launch at an later date.

Completely agree. To not have all the freeview channels is a disgrace and frankly insulting to tv customers. The "all the football" and fast broadband is a big target area for sales but it can't be all they bother with

I have to agree. I recently moved back to VM, and the salesperson said the OD service was as good as Sky's. Sky OD was brilliant, I'm sorry but the VM offerings are woeful at best.

Extremely disappointed to be honest.

I used to watch LFCtv free on Sky until they changed it and started charging for it, as it was just not worth a subscription.

When I returned to VM, I thought I would give it another try, as they were saying it was so much better now.

Well I'm a Liverpool fanatic for over 50 years, and I have to say it is the worse channel I have ever seen, in fact I, going to ring up and cancel now, and perhaps get Premier sports back.

Second that, I have no plans to return to VM. Sky is knocked a lot on this forum and all I can say is that I'm more than happy with them since I switched 6months ago. The only criticism I have is the order the channels are displayed in the EPG. Sky broadband download may be slower but the upload speed is 4 times faster, the latency is far better too when gaming.

You can add FOX's YourTV to that list of missing Freeview Channels.

As of today YourTV is not testing on Virgin Media (Info from Media Boy Sources).

1. You don't need VM to get Netflix - in fact, you don't even need a TV (computer, laptop, tablet, phone). You pay the same irrespective of your BB supplier so the fact that it's available on VM is irrelevent.
2. There would be very little difference between the PPV movies available on VM and those available on both BT & Sky. As part of my subscription with Sky, I am able to watch over 1000 movies on demand. If that's not enough, there's Sky Box Office & Sky Store (Rent/buy with a DVD in the mail). There are also over 300 box sets available at any time on demand.

I thought you had Now TV, OB? The OD movies and box sets are available via Now TV subscriptions. Maybe you've not investigated that aspect of Now TV.

Radio Today: BBC London 94.9 to rebrand as BBC Radio London.

Forty-five years after it launched as BBC Radio London, the station is going back to its roots.

BBC London 94.9 will change its name to BBC Radio London on October 6th,

You can hear BBC Radio London on Virgin UK Channel 937.

Wow! It skips through advert breaks. That will please the advertisers. They also seemed to have named it after a certain athlete that's been appearing on VM's commercials. The mind boggles.

Haven't the broadcasters already raised concerns about EE's TV Replay feature which records all the terrestrial channels automatically and presents them in a VOD style menu allowing the user to FF through the ads.

Yes, I can access Now TV but I use it only to watch the on demand programmes from Sky Atlantic.

You are right about the fact that you don't need VM to access Netflix, but I would be very surprised if the majority of VM subscribers did not have access to it by other means (apart from their computers, of course). I do believe that more streaming services should be added to the Tivo - having everything on one box is very useful for most people.

I've got an Android box with the Play Store on it but don't think the UK terrestrial catch-up services are on it. (Theye're on Android phones but not the boxes.)
Device-wise, a combination of Amazon and a Now TV box probably gives you the most catch-up services for your bucks. With Now TV covering the UK PSBs, Now TV and Sky Store. And Amazon covering Prime, Netflix, Mubi and Curzon. (I appreciate that Amazon has iPlayer, Demand 5 and STVPlayer.)

Sideload appotide you can get all tv apps regardless of region from there.
To sideload find the app via google, download apk file to your computer, copy the apk file to a usb, pop usb stick into android tv, ensure install from unknown source is enabled and you should be able to install apps that way.

Just did a search on the laptop and its showing as avalable in iPlayer - correct title is: EastEnders: Back to Ours, try searching for that.

To sideload find the app via google, download apk file to your computer, copy the apk file to a usb, pop usb stick into android tv, ensure install from unknown source is enabled and you should be able to install apps that way.
Heres the link for apotide http://m.aptoide.com/

Many thanks, will have to give this a go out of curiousity at some stage. But it's not a regional issue that prevents apps like All4 being on Android boxes, it's the fact that they're not in Play Store in the first place. Or does this allow apps written for mobile phones to be used on Android boxes?

It has it's own app store which has the apps needed such as all4 etc although all4 is in the google play store so if it's a android box you have you should be able to get it via google play.
Firetv uses Amazons own version of android which all4 isn't on at the moment this is where apotide will come into it's own however i still haven't been able to get all4 working on firetv, it did work on my old mxq android tv box though.

Well the rumours are wrong. Boxes designed for the US market wouldn't work in the UK for many different reasons. (I have explained why previously)

These aren't my words, just quotes taken from the web page I saw it on.

But they do call it a TiVo box rather than a Cisco/Samsung box ;-)

I'm sure they would adapt the new boxes using various methods to get them to work in the UK

I think it's currently in M+ and above. It does sound like it's going FTA in the article:

"PBS America will retain its channel slots on Sky and Virgin despite no longer receiving funding from the platforms, and will be available to all the platforms’ subscribers. It will launch on Freesat channel 160 from 1 November"

Thanks, I bet it goes into M from that wording (available to all the platforms' subscribers) as opposed to truly 'FTA' on VM.

Over time I think things will change , with recordings in the cloud a massive selling point will be the ability to access them on a multitude of devices such as mobiles , tablets , computers and some of the many streaming devices available.

Whilst this potentially loses multiroom revenue I believe the pay tv operators will bring in new revenue streams for instance 2 streams included , 4 streams £5 etc there is also the opportunity to sell extra cloud storage for those who record a lot.

DaMac 11-10-2015 12:33

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

But does that not increase the support network that is needed by allowing access to a closed device from a third party device? I know you can set recordings remotely on your TiVo at the moment, but that isn't direct access.

Both VM and Sky already allow streaming of live channels with Sky also allowing On Demand and download functionality on mobiles and tablets this will expand to recordings with a move to the cloud.

I agree with your point about a wider support network but remember Sky already allows the same functionality on PlayStation and Xbox if you have either Sky Go Extra or Sky Multiroom so it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that cloud recordings could be viewed on 3rd party devices going forward. As always the challenge is getting content holders on board with this.

Could VM maybe allow non-customers to subscribe to a basic version of Anywhere for (say) £4.99/month.

Very much doubt it - they (VM) have no content, it all belongs to Sky or BT and I can't see them giving VM any sort of advantage.

They may be able to offer channels from UKTV, discovery, nat geo who are now on tvplayer. Also they could possibly offer fox too i think Eurosport will be a no as they have their own player also sky and bt channels will be a huge no.

[QUOTE=theone2k10;35803082]VM will be announcing something big in Spring 2016, i do not know what it is but i'm suspecting it will either be 4k or 4g mobile.

I reckon it will be 4g as millions have smartphones compared to 4k TV sets, plus theirs not even a handful of 4k channels to justify 4k, by the time 4k is fully launched channel wide 8k will be doing its rounds.

4g already available to business customers, read this from August 2015

Why not both 4g and 4K?

Maybe that's being greedy :-)

Just for the record, that's from March 2014, Cableforum no longer updates its news.
