However, if it's coming to Virgin in the fairly near future, I'll hold off for the time being.

Still get firetv anyway for kodi and if you use a smart dns multiple netflix regions.

Tivo in the US have started updating the Premier boxes with the Prime app. That should make it technically possible to add Prime in the UK to Tivo at some stage in the future.

Commercials will always be tehre, take for instance Youtube which forces you to see something for at least 5 seconds before you can skip or spotify free version which makes you listen to advertisments, recording a linear broadcast is the only way around it.

I cant comment on Netflix/Amazon on whether they do or how as I dont have the service but im sure on sky movies they put adverts at the beginning even though its a paid service

No ads on Netflix/Prime (yet), Sky has ads at the start and end of movies (skippable) but not during.

I have deleted about a week's worth of posts that were serving no purpose other than to turn this into yet another "linear v on demand" thread.

Can members please remember this is a topic based discussion forum, and stick to the topic outlined in the thread title.

Nobody is stopping you talking about on demand TV, there is at least one other active thread on that very subject.

Thanks.

Without sounding rude or wanting to get blocked or booted...how come we aren't allowed to discuss anything else?

It would be silly to keep on swapping threads if you have built up a good repport with the usual people that you engage with, just to talk about different things happening on VM....

Again, I'm not looking to be rude or sound out of place, but if people aren't swearing, or being abusive I don't see any harm is discussing other things....but that's just me...sorry if I have offended anyone, I didn't mean too.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1

Think the guy posting the prices on DS is full of crap. Some of his other posts suggested that Dave+1 and BeIN had won the Premier League rights.

So whilst there is no doubt prices are going up, don't think they'll be as steep as that as I think it's getting to saturation point now where people are seriously considering dumping traditional pay TV for a combo of FTA and streaming services. A steep rise would just lead to many cancellations.

I also find it very interesting that Sky are throwing 50% off TV for a year offers around like confetti. I'm seriously considering going to Sky myself as you can get the full Sky TV pack for 12 months for £38.25 per month whereas I've just cancelled Sky Sports with VM which was costing me £36.25 alone! I'm in contract with VM until July so will be able to see the fallout of the price rise before deciding.

I think VM are going to need to have something big up there sleeve as they already have the most expensive price for Sky Sports in HD and come next season I'd be very surprised if BT give away their Champions League coverage for free to non-BT customers.

So coming soon to VM is another price rise. Hopefully we'll get something else too as whilst it was nice to get SSNHQ and SN in HD on New Years Day, there are pretty much zero rumours flying around so it's not looking overly promising.

I've had the 50% off Sky for 2 years now, I got rid of Tivo to do it.

It doesn't pay to bundle your services anymore, once it did, keep moving around you get better prices that way.

Unfortunately it won't stop the ads.

You still have to have Sky (NowTV) to get Atlantic.

I've had NowTV for a couple of weeks and i've watched Fox, Sky One and a couple of progs on Discovery. Zero on Atlantic, it ain't much of a draw, except when GOT starts of course, then i'll watch it.

Yep, i think the boat has been missed in regards to VM wanting to get it. The majority of progs are 4-5 seasons in and without a marathon binge playing catchup it's pretty much a waste of time.

The Following looks good but it's on s2 and s1 isn't on catchup.

Very overhyped IMO.

They do, in fact the Sky channels are really in need of a refresh.

I used to watch a reasonable amount that was on Sky 1 and 2 but their schedules now are very uninspiring. If it doesn't improve soon, I might just start thinking about how I spend my home entertainment money.

It is strange to find that there is far more good material to watch on the free terrestrial channels than there is on Sky's pay channels. They will have to do better than this to maintain my interest.

It would be good if VM could do a deal with another programme provider or two to give us some decent channels to watch. Whilst I appreciate they don't want to get into content, they could commission other channels to sign up with them.

Game of Thrones
Penny Deadful
True Detectives
The Following??
Fortitude

Just a few that I would watch on Atlantic, but I've waited for most to come on dvd, so I'll do the same for Fortitude. I have too much to watch from shows on Fox, Universal, Watch and Sky1, even Syfy... that will keep me going until Fortitude is out on dvd anyway lol

Fortitude has not had particularly good reviews and sounds boring to me. Penny Dreadful I thought I'd like but was put off by the excerpts. The Following sounds like a foreign series I started to watch with subtitles which I tired of fairly quickly.

I would be prepared to give True Detectives a go, but if this is the only programme that I haven't yet seen available on Sky Atlantic, it really does make me wonder why Sky think this channel is worth the hype.

You can't be 100% sure that this is the case mate, I think it will come in time, and I do agree that there are some really good shows on Atlantic, and I for one would love to see it on Virgin.

If Sky and VM are willing to have talks over it, it could be closer than we think.

Be great if VM pulled it out of the bag, but I guess a price increase or straight in the XL pack would be the fall-out

Sky Atlantic does have a fair bit of filler on it but these days, which channels don't? I've got access to it via Now TV at present and there are some excellent shows on there as others have pointed out (so glad The Following is back with season 3!). It is another reason for me considering the switch to Sky although I have to admit price is the main factor.

Sky doesn't have enough original content to justify the existence of both Sky One and Sky Atlantic. SA was a way of devaluing Sky One after their humiliating climbdown in their row with VM over the carriage charges for Flextech and Sky Basics.

Don't hesitate OB, get straight onto True Detective - legally or otherwise. Genuinely one of the best shows I have ever seen. I have even paid full price for the bluray, even though there are next to no extras on the boxset. Worth every penny though.

It's a shame, in my eyes, the rest of the programming on SA is so over-rated.

Yes, Sky screwed VM and it would appear that VM didn't see it coming. And, yes, we do know about the Sky channels HD trade off but VM still got out-played by Sky IMHO.

Absolutely spot on.

Now that the Horror Channel is on Freeview, I wonder if VM will put it into the M TV pack with the rest of the channels that they have that are on Freeview??

IIRC, it was in XL and moved down to L??

I also wonder why we didn't get the pop up radio station that was on last Thur to Sun- Radio 2 Country. After all, VM pay no carriage fees for BBC TV & radio channels.

If they can do it for one football match, I don't see why they couldn't have done it for a four day event.

Lol, I certainly won't be one of them. I can watch it quite easily through my brothers sky go account, it is rare to find a program on there that appeals to me.

It'll be an excellent addition to VM if they ever get it. Like I said earlier, quite a bit of filler but some of the HBO shows on it are some of the finest shows on TV.

I use HBOGO mate myself i agree HBO certainly does have some great content.
Also Atlantic has showtime shows too i really do hope you guys get Atlantic on vm sooner rather than later, i've asked around and all my sources have said no info yet about it.

The thing about SKY Atlantic is that you'll either love it or hate it. If your not keen on American drama then the channel will not appeal to you at all. Is the channel on in my house all the time? Maybe 2, possibly 3 hours per week at most. Is it full of filler? Definitely! However for me it's a must have as the handful of shows I do watch, or have watched, are top quality. Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, The Knick, The Leftovers, The Following, and The Borgias are fantastic TV.

Well hopefully it will come to VM as I'm sure many VM subscribers who don't get the content by alternative methods would enjoy it. I appreciate your updates theone so I'm sure you'll keep us posted if you hear anything.

Only have it via Now TV but you've listed some great shows there Chad. For me GoT, The Following and True Detective have been my 'must see' shows of the last few years. Let's hope HBO keep the quality coming. :)

Best thing I ever done was got a NowTV box over Christmas - well worth £6.99 a month (after my 3 month entertainment card runs out) for Sky Atlantic and the ton of on demand & box set stuff :)

Don't pay that much, you can buy a 3 month pass from Game for £15. They email you the code, so i'm told. Still using the free pass myself.

Media Boy HQ thinks maybe more Viacom channels are set to launch but we will keep you updated on this story when we can.

I just reread that info I was given by Virgin Sources I am now thinking maybe it the missing HD Channels that UPC Ireland broadcast.

-History HD
-Nat Geo Wild HD
-CI HD
-Disney Channel HD

Hope to get more info by end of March 2015.

We think it maybe some Viacom Channels or the UPC Ireland HD Channels.

I was thinking it'd be great to see that series ww11 in colour upscaled to glorious HD, then i realised they don't show any History any more.

Aye I noticed that too! Yesterday used to be called UK TV history if I remember and it was excellent back in the day but then went and got the rights to ridiculous tv shows like murder she wrote and put them on it so I switched to the history channel. Which is now broadcasting pawn shop marathons and motorbike shows. And now yesteryear seems to have took up some of the flack.

It's not asking for a history channel which broadcasts history. There is enough documentaries out there to show!

I keep tweeting them asking why they keep calling themselves a history channel and never get any response...

Whilst I don't buy into Old Boys theory that linear will die clearly people aren't as bothered about channel launches these days.

A few years back this would have gone on for pages , we've already too many channels as it is.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that VM has all the major channels of interest with the odd exception most of what's added to both platforms these days is junk.

Interesting that VM aren't using the real channel names and are instead using codes whilst testing- this is how it's normally done on satellite.
