Arctic! The channel numbers are part the broadcast on the network, and unrelated to the box software. Bear in mind that VM doesn't just have TiVo boxes - but they all use the same channel numbers.

Ok so is there going to be a big channel number shake up on all boxes?

That applies to any change of EPG slot by any channel. I'm sure VM are quite capable of adding a message slate on the old EPG slot in North Lincs for a reasonable period of time.

The problem is they DON'T stick to the script. If they did, they would have given Richard the correct answer instead of offering a tech visit.
I would disagree, if they weren't sticking to a script, the advisor at the overseas call centre wouldn't have suggested a completely inappropriate solution when my router failed. I pointed out that there was no wi-fi signal, even with the laptop placed right next to the router, she then suggested that I possibly needed a range extender!!!

Nor would she have asked for permission to access the laptop to change the laptop settings, after I had explained that all devices in the house weren't getting a wi-fi signal. Obviously, I didn't grant permission.

I didn't get anywhere with the call and had to make a further call to complain before a service visit was arranged. The engineer replaced the faulty router. The engineer commented that it was sometimes difficult getting an appropriate response from the overseas call centre as they seem to "work to a script".

Had to call virgin today, well my partner did to be exact,as we couldn`t connect to the internet. The woman my partner spoke to couldn`t of been more helpful and had us sorted within 10 minutes. So from my experience today and on a number of other cases virgin call centre staff have been spot on.

VM probably didn't want to give up such a low number to local TV which can't be paying much for the capacity. The local TV channels get 117 on Sky but presumably Sky has no involvement in deciding this.

If the problem can be "seen" from their end, they are usually very helpful and get the fault fixed or arrange a service visit. If the problem isn't obvious from their end, e.g. failure of the router wi-fi, they can quickly turn into script robots, as I discovered.

-No channels on 185 to 188.

Presumably, the channel numbers are reserved for something specific. All part of VM's master plan. ;)

When Lifetime launched last year, was it reported that the HD channel would come to VM this summer after being exclusive to Sky?
I seem to recall something along those lines.

Correct it was me who posted that one of my sources had given me the info, i'd forgotten about that lol.
The source who gave me that info was one of the ones i took of my list earlier this year as some were just plain trolling me and they was one of them sadly.
I'll see if i can find anything out about lifetimeHD.

I just finished watching the attitude era documentary ah those were the days eh lol.

The trouble with all these add ons of a few quid a month is that, before long, you may be spending as much as you did on your VM subscription! Still, it will be tailor made to your tastes.

We are specifically complaining about the foreign based call centres.

This is hardly a 'must have' channel, let alone in HD, so I doubt hat VM will be falling over themselves for it, nor that any obstacles will be put in the way of VM should they want it after*cessation*of the Sky exclusivity period.

Channels not deemed to be needed urgently tend to be picked up by VM when the carriage contract comes up for renewal, presumably to cut down on legal and negotiation fees.

It is also something that channels who get into bed with Sky need to think about- VM won't neccessarily be in any hurry to give your channels exposure when the exclusivity period with Sky comes to an end...

The only programme that I have ever watched on there was about a woman who licked her cat clean and ate any bits of residual cat fur that she found around the house!

Yes they are going to have to do something as they are running out of space by having these gaps all over the EPG. The perfect time to do it would have been when the Sky channels moved. I guess by it not happening means VM do not see it as a priority which may also mean no new channel launches are coming any time soon in the general entertainment space.

Maybe the solution is to remove BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5?!

In that article it says that Liberty Global will be one of the first cablecos to carry AMC.

Perhaps AMC Networks may also launch Sundance and IFC, channels that shows arthouse films, too.

AMC also owns Chellomedia (now rebranded to AMC Networks Intertnational) which runs CBS Reality, CBS Drama etc in a joint venture with CBS/Viacom. Now that CBS/Viacom has almost bought Channel 5 and it runs a lot of channels in the UK, perhaps AMC may do a deal with CBS/Viacom to fully purchase some of the CBS branded channels to enable Sundance and/or IFC to launch.

AMC say they will also launch HD, VOD and tv everywhere versions of their channel.

What did BT say last August?

Talks must be going well if they have giving TruTV Virgin Channel 245.

Another article on the launch of AMC here. It looks like the MGM channel is being replaced by the AMC channel in the regions where Chello ran the MGM channel. However, in the UK the MGM channel was run in conjunction with BSkyB till its closure so there is no existing MGM channel here to be simply rebranded as AMC. http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2014/...ebrand-as-amc/

Also, CBS and Viacom are independent companies so should not be clumped together as a single entity.

I know they're separate companies, but they're owned by the same person and I can't really be bothered to check whether its CBS running something now or Viacom. It makes no difference either way, so I lump them together.

Re MGM channel, that's why I reminded those that don't know that AMC run and jointly own all those CBS channels.

CBS/Viacom own so many channels in the UK now with their impending buyout of Channel 5 adding a raft of new channels into their fold, that they might sell some of their CBS branded channels to AMC.

It does seem odd that VM haven't managed to aquire a channel(good or bad) that is free to air, what's to negotiate. Paying a premium to watch VM TV, I would expect them to get all of what is available on freeview.

The price that VM pays for the channel or the price that TruTV pays to be on the VM platform. Pretty crucial stuff and relevevant whether the channel is highbrow or lowbrow.

Dude. That sounds disgusting. Why would you watch that? Don't give these people the pleasure of the attention they clearly crave, the dirty attention-whores.

I tuned into the channel on the opening night to see if it was any good, this was on and I just carried on watching it aghast!

It is disgusting isn't it, even the cat was giving her a look as if to say "pack it in" when she was licking it clean.

I do know of some artists that collect the cats whiskers to paint with, for really delicate brush strokes- got no problem with that.

If it launches tonight then it's the death knell of the relevance of twitter accounts.

*channel launches tomorrow/contract signed *
*twitter account has no idea about the contracts signed and which network its on*
*university graduates provide little to no information on twitter but try to make cool statements to get a brand name*

(the rest of the world then ignores all twitter comments by said company killing the impact twitter has on brands- robbing everyone of this)

Apologies if the wrong thread.

I thought the agreement with sky with the addition of sky sports hd 3/4 also included streaming to registered devices on the virgin anywhere app..and I honestly thought I had checked this out when the 3&4 HD came on board. But now I only see SS News available on the anywhere app. Is my failing memory playing tricks with me?

The Sky sports channels are available to stream but this can only be done via Sky's own dedicated apps. When downloaded you use the same password you log into TV Anywhere or My Virgin Media. Currently only the IOS apps are available to Virgin (iPhone, iPad), the Android versions are said to be coming early 2015. If you also subscribe to Sky Movies this app is also available. There is a major benefit from using Sky's own apps because they stream over 3G/4G with no requirement to be on Wi-Fi and I have to be honest, these apps are quite brilliant (You have to check out what they do for F1).

October 1st is a Wednesday no shows are shown on Wednesday as far as i'm aware.
No info was given on what platforms it'll be on, i think we're going to get the global version which is the USA version.
Canada version is tied in with a cable company as they threw huge ammounts of money at it to get it exclusive i don't think Sky will do the same.
What i think will happen is ppvs will remain on Sky box office for the casual watchers whilst the Network will also show the ppvs too for it's subscribers and the fans of the brand.
Sky will still show RAW and Smackdown exclusively in the UK, but shows such as NXT, main event will be on the network followed by Sky.

smithers1874 05-08-2014 11:47

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3

If the US is anything to go by, the PPV's are still on cable (certain providers) and so are the main progs as well, guessing it's down to a contract so would imagine sky will show it here on PPV for people who don't have an account.

As for the platform, i would guess it would be online as well and like the US an app to download for your tablet, console, and various smart TV's. people are accepting streaming services now with Netflix/Lovefilm getting a decent market.

£7pm is not that bad a deal considering sky sells PPV's for around £15

They have done this before, showing Soccer Saturday just on SSN. They then went back to showing on Sky Sports 1 as well.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3

Been watching CNBC and Bloomberg on this, especially comments by Disney's boss and there is speculation that Time Warner has been weakened by refusing Murdoch's offer and may be split up. Their shares are down 10% and Disney's boss said "no comment" to the question whether he would like to purchase bits of TW like CNN.

Yes. I saw a bus stop poster with the Freeview, Freesat and Sky logos on but not Virgin's.
It's important to note that it's only Virgin's platform that requires negotiation for FTA channels as it is a closed platform. Other platforms are far simpler. Maybe VM wants to include HBO on-demand as part of a deal? :)

It in the same family tree as Turner. HBO is Turner wee brother.

It the same with Smallworld - Liberty Global do not own it.
