Viruses. Picked up the horror that has been going since Christmas, I laughed at everyone last Tuesday for it not affecting me. Oh how I jinx myself. Now I have no voice, reduced to whispering. Now feel like death warmed up but as I have already had 2 periods of sickness in 12 months, I am damned if I am going to sign off JSA claim ESA for a few weeks while I recover from the virus and then claim JSA again. Just not worth the hassle.

Ours is painful. Even small-ish documents can take 5 minutes to open for edit.

I've a technical design to update post peer-review before tomorrow morning so might as well make a brew, walk the dogs, do the weekly shop and build a scale model of the General Belgrano while waiting for it to open.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

A neighbour has been underdosing her cats and dogs with anti flea treatment, and that has apparently caused a fipronil-resistant strain of fleas.

The worst infested was taken to a vet and got alternative treatment, the vet gave them flyers to hand out locally to other pet owners highlighting the need to change treatment. £67 to treat her pets, £185 to deflea the house.

They have a mangy tomcat who tries to mount anything standing still, male or female, so it's fleas are going to pop up everywhere soon.

:(

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Oh that's not too good at all Taf. I feel sorry for her poor pets and all the other pets in the neighbourhood that may have been infected :( our Keane gets his flea & worming treatment from our vet and the main reason we get these from the vet is he is getting the proper treatment according to his weight. Better safe than sorry I say.

£^&*()% cancer.

Back in November my mum had surgery to remove a section of bowel, in January I went with her on a Saturday to a hospital in London (UCHL) 3 hour round trip on tube (NO parking) for a CATSCAN, and went back on the Monday she was told it was cancer but small and no problems.

Today she went with my sister and was told another section of bowel has to be removed as it is cancer and their is something near her Pancreas and thyroid, so need 2 trips to hospital for surgery.

The problem is the surgeon whose the best man in the field only works at the Royal Free Hospital in London and its 1-1/2 hours by car to get there.

So visiting hours are going to be a bitch, as it will require afternoons off work, but who cares, it for my mum.

Sorry to hear that your mum needs further surgery Hom3r. I hope you can work things so that you will be able to visit as often as you want. The stress involved is bad enough without having to worry about just getting to the hospital. <<hugs>>

So for the last 3 or 4 years, I've been buying a 4 weekly ticket for the buses around Stevenage, which if you bought through the Arriva m ticket app or online you got a 10% discount off. Went to purchase a new one yesterday as my previous one expired yesterday. Only to find that with no publicity about it, Arriva have scrapped the 10% discount. Got some guff about how it was a difficult decision, and that the extra money would go towards improving standards of travel for passengers. Which I can just about accept, but still find it disgusting they failed to publicise the fact that the discount was being axed.

I hate dealing with insurance companies and I've only had 2, the current wanted proof of 19 years NCB, which I finally got.

Now 25 years NCB I got it down to £260, it wouldn't surprise me if I was being penalised for being single with no kids.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

I hate sofas - specifically our old ones which I decided to break up in order to salvage the hard wood framing inside. My God were those things put together well. I've never seen so many screws and staples, the latter ranging from the normal 1cm size for tacking fabric to countless really heavy duty wire staples getting on for 2 inches long. It took me over 4 hours and numerous cuts, scrapes and other wounds to reduce the first sofa to its component parts and before I can use the wood I still have to de-nail it. The second sofa has been stripped of its fabric, padding etc. but still needs disassembling. Knowing the quality of the Ross fabric and having seen the amount of work that went into making them, now I know 3 things a) why they cost £600 each over 20 years ago, b) why they lasted so long without so much as a squeak and c) I'll never do this again!!!

:)

When I was working I used to have to make decisions on whether a customer had a valid complaint now my decisions seem to be will I have a tea or not :( Hopefully one day I will be able to return to work as what I find I miss the most is company. What has surprised me the most is people seem to judge me different now I am no longer working sad but true. I remember the feeling weenie and do sympathise with you.

I went from quite a high profile job to just being someone who sat around in hospitals listening to other people dictate how my medical condition meant my life had to change and HATED IT. I missed being part of a team, I missed having people around me who saw me and not the labels of 'wife' 'mother' , I felt as though the real me was now invisible.

So if someone is crass enough to ask why you are no longer working in a tone you don't like, or infer you are taking the easy option then bite their sodding heads off!!!!

Oh and enjoy your Anniversary break away from home. Fresh air and beautiful scenery are good for the soul. :)

Just got a load of scratches on my arms as I was trying to read my meter cupboards, and because I overbalanced I dropped the key. With thick bushes right in front of both, I couldn't find it. Luckily, Tesco sell one for £1.45 so ordered one and available to collect after 3 tomorrow afternoon. Damn nPower making customers do 4 bills a year now. After the hassle they gave since December, they can wait for a reading.

Supposed to be a quiet day?
Woke up this morning to find hot water running down the living room wall, on investigation water coming from the hot water cistern base.
(Got the council emergency team out who drained the tank, replacement sometime next week?)
Got out my spare Windows 7 machine to check through, whilst doing a Windows update (all of 250Mb) exhaust fan decides to pack in, resulting in a complete shutdown.
Currently re downloading from scratch all the updates which were outstanding.

Ah yes, found it now. Right under the part where it says that they reserve the right to refuse all claims and treat you like a criminal if you need to make a claim.

What has surprised me the most is people seem to judge me different now I am no longer working sad but true. I feel like shouting I'm not lazy I've worked most of my life the reason I'm not working at the moment is quite frankly none of your business Oh how I wish I had the guts to say that when they ask why are you no longer working or it's all right for some.

Don't waste your time/effort worrying about what idiots think - the world's full of them sadly.

My pet hate is all those contestants who play Tipping Point and miss out on ££££££'s simply because they haven't worked out the right time to drop their counters to ensure they lie flat. Sad I know but it bugs me...

Yep. Got around 7 hours overnight then had about 3 hours sleep in evening. Glad I stopped taking them, although still have quite a few left over so if I ever get trouble sleeping I know what to take.

When people use pointless Americanisms when our own version of words is good enough. I work around people who say “cellphone”, pronounce data as ‘darta’ , premier as ‘preh –MEER’ etc etc

Annoys me too, especially when saying words like pasta, yoghurt, tomato, oregano and basil. Really annoys me, I have to sit there and shout at the TV about it.

One hate of my Nan's in the English language is when people say pronounce the h with the h at the start, so not aitch but haitch.

His GP is doing some blood tests as he says he feels very lethargic currently and thus has no energy.

Compensation loop calculations: Boring, tedius and must be got right or the electronic circuit won't behave correctly. :(

At least in this case the manufacturer of the control chip has put down the equations and highlighted the important parameters so I only need to get the data for the components I want to use. Still means ploughing through many pages of datasheets.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Just as you think get sorted, something always happens. My Nan though her car was working fine after having a wheel bearing changed in January. However, today she noticed that the engine management light was on in the car, which means that it needs to go to a garage to be diagnosed for sure what the trouble is. Mechanic she went to said there is a petrol leak around one of the spark plugs, so understandably she is quite worried about driving the car even though the mechanic said she should be fine to drive until someone can look at it. Ho hum.

---------- Post added at 16:16 ---------- Previous post was at 15:22 ----------

So nobody can look at it until Friday morning, luckily I managed to talk her into taking tomorrow off from work and not driving the car until Friday morning.

You are not weak dilli as many people would not be able to cope with what you have gone through in your life.

+1

Hope everything goes well tomorrow dilli.

Now is the time to stop putting on a brave front and tell it like it is. I doubt if there are many people at this stage of their recovery from a similar operation who are dancing about feeling on top of the world. No shame in asking for what you need. <<hugs>>

Stop that nonsense dilli, it is OK to feel down for once. I know damn well that I wouldn't even be 25% as optimistic and brave as you if it was me. Let others look after you and hopefully you will feel better soon.

Washing machine.

I've already fixed two leaks and it's STILL leaking just as bad. I know we're going to replace it but I'm getting fed up mopping out the utility room. At least it's all tiled and concrete floor so damage is minimal.

Yes, I know, but its still a chunk of money out of the kitty and I still need to try and get the car MOT'd with an unknown bill for that.

Then there's the gas, lecky, phone, virgin bills. Everybody wants our money.
