Let's say you could buy an entertainment package with NOW TV for £80.00. For £80.00 you get a full years access to SKY One, SKY Atlantic, SKY Living, SKY Arts, SKY Sports News, SKY on demand, iPlayer, Demand 5 and 4oD. If I didn't have SKY or Virgin, and only Freeview in my house, personally I'd be delighted it someone bought me 12 months or premium TV as a gift.

Every year be it through work or a family member I always get some vouchers or money to spend. Again if all I had was Freeview, and a tight monthly budget, £80.00 for a full years worth of SKY programming would be really appealing.

Each to their own of course. I see this as a good add on service for those looking for a little bit extra, entertainment wise, without the need of a monthly subscription commitment.

Is that full Sky on demand?

That's looking like really good value.

I'm not 100% sure to be honest Andy. Just rumour at the moment. I'm led to believe the "SKY entertainment" NOW TV bundle will also include a few non-SKY branded channels.

SKY Movies on NOW TV is £8.99 per month. For your £8.99 you get access to the movies channels as they broadcast live, and the movies on demand. I can't see the SKY Entertainment package being dearer and would expect a large range of the programming to be available on demand.

Again I'm just basing this on rumours which were "flying around" at SKY in Livingston today.

I agree VM currently makes money by selling the Sky channels in all its packs so adding this app would be an issue , Now TV will also include Sky Store soon however VM already have VM Movies for PPV titles.

No because VM already have access to Sky and Sky on Demand. Sky Atlantic is coming to VM.
Also noticed something on Skys website you can now subscribe to MGMHD as a stand alone channel for £5p/m. Maybe MGMHD might be same on VM too.

SKY, supposedly, aim to have channels like SKY Atlantic, SKY 1 and SKY Living up and running on NOW TV by the first week of December. It's anticipated that there will be a Christmas push to give those you love at Christmas SKY.

As confirmed today you can buy NOW TV with a 3 month pre-paid SKY Movies subscription. A further rumour today suggested that you will be able to buy NOW TV boxes with a 12 month prepaid subscription to the "SKY basic" channels. I couldn't get a price out of him as he simply didn't know.

SKY Sports News may launch as a free channel on NOW TV for those who miss it from their Freeview line-up.

Whilst this could be nothing more than rumours it's got me thinking that if SKY Atlantic does launch on Virgin, it might not be until after the NOW TV Christmas push.

We will just have to wait and see......

Well, given the time of year, it wouldn't surprise me if they delayed SA to try and push NOW TV.

IF and it is a big IF, that tag line is used, I could not think of a more ridiculous present from someone. If I did not have or did not want Sky (or VM for that matter) I would be rather annoyed if someone felt I would like a present which (a) I clearly would not want and (b) a present I would have to pay for on a monthly basis. :p::D

As for Atlantic, I hope it comes for those who want it. However, I still could not care one way or the other.

I totally agree with all your sentiments there.

Now Music TV continue to peddle their nonsense that their service will not be on VM as VM have no spare capacity. Despite being told that this is not true, they are still spouting this nonsense to the public.

I think that this erroneous information may have implications upon the business and standing of VM, so I have taken steps to correct this. I'll let everybody know when I get to know anything else :)

I doubt that this rumour is true. If it's effectively just a rebrand and a refocus of programming of Sky Livingit to Sky Bravo, Sky wouldn't have said that they were keen to negotiate carriage on VM, as this channel is already on the platform!

Having said that, I wouldn't mind Sky Livingit being rebranded- daft name :D

Style Network is already on VM, but very likely if the US Version closes...

It only arrived on VM earlier this year so bad forward planning

EDIT: Style Network US has just been rebranded Esquire Network, style uk should be safe if not for a rebrand

You make some valid points Chad, if I could afford to that though, and someone I knew wanted extra channels, I would prefer to give them the subscription as a thanks for their friendship over the years. I would still look to find Christmas presents I know they would find more useful to make their day-to-day lives a bit easier, stress free or a little better off financially.
For example, my best friend and his wife have only had freeview for a number of years now and are not bothered about extra channels. They have also just had a baby boy. I dread to think of the look on his face if I rocked up to his house telling him I have given him £80 worth of TV channels, instead of £80 worth of baby clothes/food/toys or something they need for the kitchen/garden/living room/bedroom etc.

I can understand why you think it would be a nice present, but I simply find it a horrid present to give someone at Christmas.

Thing is I do watch sd, quite happily. But if I have a choice then I do choose hd. But I also have a TiVo which resolves recording clashes, and you and Muppetman have things like never miss. I just think +1's are a backwards step for technologically innovative companies who are already providing many more flexible ways to catch up with missed shows, and generally in hd. The truth is that +1's are really only a way for channel operators to squeeze a bit more out of their advertising revenues, they're inflexible in that they are still scheduled and don't fit with the "what you want, when you want it" ideals of TiVo and Sky+, or even myBBC, and given the number of repeats and catch up options available to people they don't even really offer something that isn't already available.

IMO.

But I would be genuinely interested in Old Boy's opinion, because he said he welcomed the addition of FOX+.

I understand and accept that some have no use for the +1 channels. I also accept that they are inflexible, but then again so are linear channels anyway.

Two practical issues. First of all, if you don't 'do' recordings or you have a V box, if you are watching TV and there are two programmes you would like to watch but they are both on at the same time, the +1 overcomes that problem for you.

If, like me, you record everything to watch later, there will often be recording clashes. As the peak season for good programmes arrives, it is not unusual for all my tuners to be taken up by recordings between 9 and 11pm. Sometimes, I can simply record a programme that is repeated in the wee small hours or a less clogged up time during the evening on another day, but all too frequently, no suitable slots are available. The +1 channel provides an additional opportunity to record those programmes.

If recording clashes were just occasional happenings, having no +1 channels wouldn't bother me, but clashes do happen very often in my house!

Those of you who don't see the value of them, well you don't have to use them and it doesn't affect you that they are there. So why take away this method of seeing a programme an hour later for those who find it useful?

I really don't understand why people are getting themselves so wound up about this. Too much stress shortens your life, you know. Better to go with the flow!

In the long term of course the problem will go away because I don't see a future for linear channels. We will all be choosing our programmes from Netflix, Lovefilm, etc. It is absurd that people are still prepared to sit through hours of advertisements on linear channels that interrupt their programmes at times that are determined by the programme schedulers. What a strange way to view TV nowadays, and what a waste of your life!

I can't understand the clamour for them. They don't add new content, they're not in hd, and Virgin already offer a range of ways to time shift your viewing, including the provision of a set top box which resolves the recording clashes which appear to be the main reason people want them.

No?

No, Andy. Some programmes get repeated ad nauseum, but often those I want to see are not, or they are repeated at another peak time. Time shifting only works when you have a lot of repeated programmes.

But you could buy it as a Christmas pressie for your wife, install it in the bedroom, where she could watch whatever she wanted. You could watch what you liked then on your TIVO box!

You could always snuggle up to enjoy the odd Sky Atlantic show worth watching!

I was only passing on what one of my Rumour Posters told me.

If Sky do so that will mean Sky Bravo will get Channel 112 on Virgin Media plus also an +1 hour channel on Virgin Channel 160.

Sky need to close an channel or buy one of the wee broadcasters channel numbers on Sky to launch Sky Bravo anyway,

As Sky close the SD Channel launch list years ago.

Another rumour - again take it with a pinch of salt as there is no official confirmation as yet.

I just received the following:

Quote:

I hear that Virgin Media could introduce a £5 HD charge to those who don't have XLTV and want HD.

This will be so as people on M+ and above can receive channels such as SKY 1HD etc.
The channels will be relevant to the channels in their package.

I'd be over the moon if SA HD and Universal HD arrive before Christmas.
I hope to be caught up on Game of Thrones soon, and myself and the wife watch a lot of programs on Universal now, and the PQ is not always the best.

With all that and Netflix arriving soon, this could be a golden year for VM.

Evening all. Just had a butchers at that rather impressive list. If VM do acquire rights to broadcast those channels on the platform, that would be icing on the cake to what already has been a great year of acquisitions from VM and LG. :-)

Hmm!

No additional BBC HD channels?

There are now "Coming soon" placeholders for BBC3 HD & CBBC HD on Freeview BBC B, & the COM 7 mux is on test in several areas where the other channels will be placed, so it's quite possible we may have an early chrissy present from Auntie Beeb as well.

---------- Post added at 12:34 ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 ----------

No, Andy. Some programmes get repeated ad nauseum, but often those I want to see are not, or they are repeated at another peak time. Time shifting only works when you have a lot of repeated programmes.

---------- Post added at 12:38 ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 ----------

But you could buy it as a Christmas pressie for your wife, install it in the bedroom, where she could watch whatever she wanted. You could watch what you liked then on your TIVO box!

You could always snuggle up to enjoy the odd Sky Atlantic show worth watching!

---------- Post added at 12:44 ---------- Previous post was at 12:38 ----------

I've never seen a single IT programme on that channel.:D

Not agreeing with you doesn't mean I'm stressing out about it! I was interested in your opinion, and I'm grateful for the time you've taken to provide it.

Unfotunately, MJ, dates get put back sometimes. We are all learning to be careful with dates because technical hitches and contractual issues end up putting everything back. The basic information was right, though because SA is coming. Just like the BT Sports channels. It was later coming than we thought, but it arrived in the end.

Are you going by what other people with sources have said?

Or is it a gut feeling?

Rumours posters has told me this week that:

-FOX + launch is put on hold due to Netfix.
-One Rumour poster says Virgin had signed an deal with Sky and the channels are set to launch within the next two weeks* with an rumour posted on VM Forum that says they may launch on October 30th (*But that look like that will not happen due to the Netfix / FOX + hold up.)

Do you mean the activation fee as i thought the install was free anyway?

So you got it for nothing? apart from the £5 per month, or whatever it is?

Defo tempted if i could get it for a fiver a month.

As always MB, cheers for info.:) I fully understand that they may not launch before 2014.

Personally, I will be well chuffed IF MGMHD (would happily spend £5 a month if I had to, great value for some of the movies they show) and UniversalHD launch.

Will be happier when Nat Geo Wild HD launches though:)

I am not overly worried about the rest, but I will more than happy for those who want the other channels, IF they launch. I dread to think what people will talk about on here though if they do launch though:(.

Everyone has there choices, whatever we see or not.no one can complain about this year with vm,we have seen new owners and a staggering amount of channels and if what has happened since they have taken over is anything to go by for the future then things are on the up.i have contributed to the rumours over the last few months and so far bar sky Atlantic and universal hd everything I have stated seems to have come along fingers crossed we will see these shortly and hopefully more,I would personally like to thank mb for taking the time to make this thread and for taken the time to collect all the info this year so far.recently he as received some stick regarding some of is posts, but if you compare the actually things he as said that have come along far over way the things that currently haven't.Keep up the good work bud :cleader:

So it is, I do know that the BBC intend to eventually close Radio 4 LW due to the transmitter needing obsolete 1960's equipment. I don't think that this empty EPG listing actually means anything, as nobody knows when Radio 4 LW will cease because it all depends on how long the valves last!

The transmitter needs two of these valves, they last between 1 and 10 years and there are only 10 left in the whole world.

No attempts to manufacture similar valves will be made as this could cause a dangerous power surge to the transmitter.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Why would Fox+ be delayed by Netflix?

Surely adding a channel after this years additions is pretty routine. And it's not as if Fox+ is something they want to make a song and dance about. I'd understand Sky Atlantic delay because then they have had 3 big massive scoops this year, but not Fox+

That what my Rumour posters told me.

FOX + may not even launch until November.

An Virgin Insider told me last week that News 18 was set to launch on Virgin Media by today*.

So with FOX + and News 18 doing an 'No show' I think it safe to say that Virgin Media will not launch any more new channels until they fix and launch Netfix in all areas on TiVo.

*Even 'Asian Channel' posted on DS Forum last Friday that it was coming.

Fox+ is annoying as hell. It's been delayed and delayed. I don't even want it that much I just want to to launch so I don't need to hear of it again haha

I asked the question on VM Facebook page and was told there would be a install fee

No, it's safe to say there are some strange rumours going around. Neither Fox+ nor News18 have been announced.

I can't imagine where some of these rumours come from. For example, that "Telewest areas get Netflix first" thing. No truth in it at all. On the contrary, we deliberately balance updates between the networks to spread the load.

FOX+ was on the online EPG a few weeks ago i myself was the one that posted it and the screenshot.

I thought it was confirmed earlier in the thread that the free CBS channels were available to M TV customers and above ?

Can someone on the M package please confirm if they're getting these channels or not?

They are on the M package , i'm on M (again) and i'm getting the CBS channels. This is most likely just a oversight by MB i'm sure he'll update it when he gets time :)

In my experience, a lot of corporate facebook pages are run by people with little or no knowledge of the products that they purport to know about. The people staffing them are mainly young, inexperienced and lack the maturity to be able to interact with customers correctly. They are inappropriately informal and think that they are exempt from general corporate standards applicable to other parts of the company.

The admin of many facebook pages is outsourced, however, VM run their own.

I have been informed by former VM staff (that were made redundant following the closure of the Albert Dock premises) that they are shocked at some of the responses on both the facebook page and community forum.

A recent example was when one VM employee ridiculed a VM customer for initially being unable to get BT Sport.

So don't read this thread then!

We are all adults here and know that a channel or service is not confirmed until it appears on our boxes.

I have no problems decyphering between what I consider rubbish rumours, and facts, and I am sure most of us understand that some, not all of these are based on assumptions.

If you read back, you will realise some of the people you are busy complaining about have been VERY accurate in their alleged guesswork

I can understand your reluctance to share information, when all one receives in return from some on this site is rudeness for going to the trouble of doing so.

1.the night bt sports started I post on here and even told people on Facebook to give it till end of week before leaving granted I said Friday and they turned up thursday(my bad)
2.netflix posted on here in July that vm were close to a deal and we should see it in autumn
3.more4hd (2 weeks before launch I said it was coming) and no suprise it suddenly popped up on ds forum
1 lucky guess ? But 3? And also I have said sky atlantic planned during autumn,I was told in July that ongoings talks with sky to aquire some missing sky channels.which I was told by 3 different vm employees were happening (one of which was at ceo's office )

I can see where you're coming from but MB only gives information he has been told by others he is just trying to be helpful at end of the day and he does a great job , i get info which i pass on. There is no guarentee if the rumours are true or not all i do is pass on what i get told.
If people don't like the fact that some rumours may not be true then the simple method is don't read the thread. Most on here appreciate the info given.
I can assure you not all but most of my info has indeed been correct.

Also has anyone else noticed it's people who don't normally comment on these threads that are stirring things up?

My opinion on rumors inside info e.t.c at best there correct at worst there just something to read until any channel actual appears in the box. Not really any need for arguments an bickering an the not reading this thread at all option is always there too obviously.

But this is the Coming Soon to Virgin TV thread.. not the What might be coming, maybe not coming, but let's put any old rumour down anyway thread.

I read this thread to find out what is coming soon, if people want to speculate and list any old rumours and people enjoy that aspect then that's fine by me.
Though only a few days ago, even MB thought about launching a 'Rumour Thread', which to me would be a better idea to keep all these rumours and speculation separate and keeping this thread to what it is titled about... things that are Coming Soon to VM..

But don't give the 'if you don't like it, don't read it line as it's pathetic...

Also in regard to your last comment, well perhaps people either don't want to post, preferring to lurk till some actual news is posted that is confirmed.
In my opinion it's the same little clique who make up the majority of posts in this thread, and to newbies or infrequent posters this can be off putting.
Also many of us read the thread but don't comment, and when we do it's for a valid reason and not just posting to increase their post count.

Anyway, that's my opinion on it.
