Re: The Xbox One Thread
I would like to go digital only but if it costs £10 more than the disk version then i don't think it is worth it as they're currently so expensive.
I do wish they would let us know the UK digital prices this week before my disk versions get despatched though so i can make a decision based on price! |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
The current 360 dash has a little tab at the bottom that says £10 free Xbox credit.
I threw my controller after entering. :dozey: |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Here is a list of launch game install sizes so not as bad as what i originally thought, however i am unsure whether digital/disk versions take up different space. I am now left wondering whether to cancel my disk based versions of BF4 and AC4 with the hope of being able to download them at a reasonable price and speed on launch day!

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I really don't know what to do now, how many of you guys are going digital ONLY, and are you buying a few disk based games for launch or taking the risk and waiting for the digital versions on the store to show up and download?

What im also going to do is download KI while i wait for other games to download that why i can play something while waiting for Fifa 14 and Forza to download. My mate is doing the same so we can play KI together while chatting on Skype while we wait for games to download. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
i may do the same thing as my console comes with Forza 5, just seeing if i can cancel my Amazon orders easily now.
With Battlefield 4 it says you get the China Rising multiplayer pack free, so i am now wondering if that is missing from the digital downloads or disk versions i get at a later date in the shop? Tesco are also selling AC4 for £55 when i get it for £49 on Amazon. Edit Just cancelled AC4 i will keep BF4 seeing it comes with free DLC and i can keep that in the drive. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Free Xbox One. My parents bought it for Xmas and they're bringing it round next week. They've said it's a D1 Edition w/ Forza
Likely just going to leave it in the box until UFC by EA. (Huge UFC fan) Could play Forza but I'd miss my Forza 4 billion credits :( Selling it isn't an option as that's rude imo. Plus I'd really like to play EA UFC. Then knowing my luck they'd announce a new Gears game as I flogged it. Why buy/keep a console for one game? I don't know, You're talking to the guy that bought the PS3 for The Getaway 3, look how that turned out. Boxing games tend to be console only so there's another plus. |

Just found out that Forza 5 Day One edition is only available via Game. I wonder if Day One will be on Xbox Game Store

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Some more good news for the X1.
We all know Ghosts runs at 1080p on PS4 and only 720p upscaled on the X1, however the PS4 suffers from frame drops while the X1 stays at a constant 60fps and here are some comparison shots between the versions, in my opinion they look very similar but just like BF4 the textures seem better on the X1. The game still looks crap though compared to BF4. http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/11...entry596096625 |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Depends what you want.
The SP on Ghosts is meant to be a lot better than BF4's (as with previous versions of each), while the MP on BF4 is meant to be a lot better than Ghosts' (also as with previous versions of each). |

Multiplayer for me on BF4. :)

Who will be watching this? It will be shown at 4am GMT http://news.xbox.com/2013/11/xbox-one-launch-invitation |

4am! it is bad enough getting up for work at 5am that day so i think i will watch it when i get home at 1.30pm. I would love Tesco to deliver Friday afternoon but i expect a Saturday delivery as the order is saying where i will be sitting on the edge of my seat listening for a delivery lorry running to the kitchen to look out side every 10mins and swearing as time passes with no delivery! lol

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Rather odd that neither Next Gen console will play 3D Blu Rays from the get go!
Bit odd that TBH. I use my PS3 for Blu Rays a lot and also 3D. If I got either new console I would need to keep my PS3 so I could continue to watch my full movie collection. I know there will probably be updates to rectify ths but why they can't do 3D from launch is a bit strange. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I've decided I'm going to wait till the dust settles a bit then decide. I've heard a couple of the release date titles suffer from slow frame rates and only 720p. This ain't good obviously for a next gen console. Hopefully you lot here will give better reviews than the official sites.
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Well technically the One will upscale and still output at 1080p if thats what you've set it to output in settings.

Early release PS4's are reporting issues already from Bricked machines to straight up dead consoles. If the Xbox is trouble free it could be Sony's turn to play like the early 360 did. Hope I haven't just jinxed it though.

Re: The Xbox One Thread
Ah I'm defining failure as a console that's broken rather than a crash. Crashes will occur on both consoles. Persistent crashes are an issue sure but right now I'd say the issue is consoles arriving DOA or bricking after an hour, which is the current issue with the early PS4's.
Crashing is just something that happens whenever. Happens on PC's too. Just one of those things. My old 360 hangs all the time. GTA V kills it. I'll have my capture cards set up on both PC and console and we'll run a proper side by side. I was thinking FIFA as the NG versions have no texture difference between PC/Console. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread

When my friend was playing Forza at a show the console crashed as it was loading the game, or maybe it was the game that crashed not sure, so i hope these things are not that common.
The size of the fan is massive in the X1 so hopefully that'll keep the thing cool too, and i read from the guy that got his early i think he said it was silent. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/at...1&d=1384468233 |

I think after reading the stuff about the PS4 failures, I'll see if Microsoft offer an extended warranty
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Anyone know how much it cost for the 360?
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I can't remember. I think MS stopped doing it ages ago, though.
GAME used to offer their own extended warranty for consoles purchased from them - not sure if they still do. Amazon don't have their own, but do sell things like Squaretrade warranties. I have no idea if they're any good, though. I have some sort of extended warranty cover via my bank account... I'll use that for my Xbox One. Don't forget though that you always have the following: - One year manufacturer's warranty. - Up to six years of cover against goods being "inherently faulty" or not being "fit for purpose", via your statutory rights as a consumer thanks to the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). This is with the retailer, not the manufacturer. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
Didn't Microsoft extend warranties to 3 years after the RROD issues.
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I believe that was only for RROD though.
|
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I have a feeling the X1 won't have any over heating problems judging by the size of the fan and case, but i have a feeling the PS4 may.

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I have a feeling the first free game for XBL gold will be Forza 5. Due to being less content filled than other games I can see this game jumping on the DLC wagon even though Forza 4 was the same. Regardless if they release it free for everyone they'll make money from more people inclined to purchase the car packs because they've never had to spend the £50 on the title.
Just my guess but if Microsoft steal this idea I want compensation in the form of full restoration of my Gamertag. |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I am waiting for the reviews before I get the XBOX or PS4. PS4 looks ok but if the Xbox reviews are good i'll get that.

Reason i say i cant see it working as the X1 wont be connected to the TV directly and so i cant see the X1 picking the TV up as not a direct connection |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I don't see why that wouldn't work. Going by that image, the X1 doesn't detect the type of TV, merely that there is a connection - you still manually select your TV type.
I'm still rocking a Yamaha DSP-A5 from thirteen years ago, so my set up will be a little simpler as it doesn't have HDMI. [I do want to get new receiver at some point though, as I'd like a receiver that does HD audio, so that would likely also have HDMI when I get round to getting one] Sky+HD > Xbox One > TV I did read something after the recent dash reveal confirming that the Sky+HD box works with the Xbox One's HDMI passthrough, but I can't find the damn article. What I still want to know, though, is if the passthrough still works when the console is "off" (low power standby) or if it only works when it is fully powered up. Although the "snap" stuff would be good, I don't want to have to have the console fully powered up every time I want to watch Sky+HD, especially as although we'll have "snap" we won't have the One Guide overlay stuff until next year. |

I think PS4's focus on gaming may mean a better gaming experience in the long run. They've done a lot to bring independent developers into the fold whilst Microsoft have been courting media companies for movies and TV shows. Still most of the exciting games will be multi platform i think. |

But you don't need to use the other features that have been added. They are there as bonus features.
Its still a gaming console but also if you want it an all in one box with lots of nice extras. Having seen videos of it in action the voice control and TV and multi task features are great. |

Re: The Xbox One Thread
I want a games console that is also a media centre so the X1 ticks all the right boxes for me so far, i just hope i made the best decision, only time will tell but so far comparing multiplat games the only difference is on some games the PS4 has more games in 1080p and the X1 more in 720p upscaled which probably wont make much difference visually unless someone is sitting 12 inches from their TV.
I also expect as time goes on the majority of games will be 1080p native on both consoles as the developers get more experienced as both consoles are so similar in performance. Here is the latest comparison of Need for Speed Rivals which runs at 1080p native 30fps on both consoles. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...ce-off-preview |

I'm glad that I'm going to wait till the dust settles to see what is best. The reports of lag/slow ups on frame rates, 720p has put me off till things gets sorted. They ain't what I'd say 'next gen' when you're used to a half decent PC. Time will obviously tell.... |
Re: The Xbox One Thread
I think they look the same in the side by side video, 720p hasn't put me off with BF4 as it looks better on the X1 even at a lower resolution but the X1 is said to have an awesome hardware upscaler.

Re: The Xbox One Thread
We shouldn't compare it to a PC anymore. I've been criticised for it and likely deservingly when comparing them to my PC listed in my sig.
Graphics and res can never be compared because it's obvious a PC is going to win. So you move onto playability and general fun. I've had more fun with my 360 than any other console or PC. Xbox live was the killer in this generation. It made Sony's online platform look like a cheap knockoff. It was easily worth the £30 a year for me. It was simple to use and they just about got everything right with it. The controller although built for console was also compatible with PC. For owners of both this was a huge deal when you look at the lack of controllers and controller support on PC's. It made console ports so much better on PC's for a change. So Microsoft was in two marketswwith one device. Exclusives such as HALO 3. I remember the midnight launches for this across the world. It was the biggest event in gaming for its time. Obviously it's since been beaten but us true fans will never forget. |

I will hopefully be getting one of the consoles at some point, originally I was just going to get the X1 because I've never had a PS and had the 360 from launch so the X1 was my first choice without any consideration of the PS4. But this time because they are being launched so close together and there ain't much info when it comes down to a more realistic review for comparisons at the moment I'm happy to wait it out for a bit. Hopefully for not too long though. When the 360 was launched it was classed as next gen, and in some ways it was compared to the playstation and the Xbox, but to call the new ones 'next gen' again, I hoping my high expectations are met, but so far they've made me cautious. The one thing I will add is that I'm more disappointed with PC gaming now more than ever. It's going to take a lot of convincing now to save up and spend out for a 'gaming' PC now. I might at a push upgrade a few bits, but it won't be anything major if and when it comes to it. Consoles are going to be the 1st for any kind of gaming choice obviously now. |

As for indy games. look at the 360 its got a massive Indy game section. I see the One being the same at the end of the day. Microsoft know people want a games console but also that having an all in one media box is a help to people if they want to make use of it. Remember if you don't use any of the other stuff its 100% still a games console. |

The Xbox will still have Halo, all the multi platform games and so on. Microsoft will always have Grand Theft Auto, FIFA, Call of Duty and so on on their console. Yet I think Sony's more aggressive courting of developers and their positioning of their console as an gaming machine first will mean it will follow this generations pattern of the Playstation getting the riskier, smaller and more innovative games. The Xbox still has two very strong cards: Xbox live and that controller. Microsoft know software and that still shows in their LIVE services and their dashboard UI. The rubbish XMB interface and flimsy controller on the PS3 meant I played all multi-platform games on my Xbox and used the PS3 only for the aforementioned Indie games and the exclusives (Heavy Rain, Last of Us). Still I am in two minds this generation. I honestly probably will get the one with the better reviews as I am so undecided. |
