I agree Hugh , how do you think they'll price the Sky One/Atlantic/Living/Arts content when it arrives ? I'm interested in that as we mainly watch those channels , I will certainly be giving it future consideration especially if they can add some more useful video apps.

I also read its arrival is imminent on the XBOX also with Roku and PS3 at some point.

There is always so much money that people have in their pot for Home entertainment and we have reached the zenith of how much people can afford and any more rises and some people are likely to cancel it alltogether.

I agree with you subs are getting more expensive and I too have a level of what I'm happy to pay upto , however remember Sky Sports on Sky costs £21 which wouldn't get you a child's ticket at most EPL teams and includes a multitude of sports , Sky Movies costs £16 on Sky , taking a family of 4 to the cinema can cost nearly double that. Basically only the individual can decide whether that offers value for money but as I've said if not there are plenty of alternatives.

There's plenty more to come Matt , as Beta Testers we've just had software version 53.70 delivered last night , your box is probably on 49.21 which is the minimum version needed for the iPad app. You'll soon receive an update in the coming months which will add the undelete feature to your planner and the catchup TV service is due around autumn I believe.

Nice :)

Is Sky still signing up Beta testers, or is it now closed?

I don't know what software version my box has. It came with the old EPG but I forced an update during the self set-up. I'd assume it's now on the latest public release?

It's in settings then system details (model number)

At the minute I believe it's closed , your box is a DRX 890 if it's a Sky+HD the DRX895 is the 1TB and the DRX595 is the non PVR.

Yes tried it , works really well with plenty more to come ;)

When selecting a show in the TV guide on the iPad you get the option to watch on TV presumably a watch on iPad will come at some point also.

Tezcatlipoca 15-08-2012 13:25

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

I gave it a go last night - very impressed! :)

Planner access: Look to see what has been recorded and what has been set to record, plus you can select existing recordings and choose to watch them (on TV), etc.

Guide: Full Guide, as before, but in addition to Remote Record you can now also set a record straight away via the local network connection... plus you can pick something in the Guide to actually watch and it will change channels for you.

Remote control: Pause/Play, Fast-forward, Rewind, Channel Up/Down.

All it needs is power on/off plus Anytime+ and you could ditch the IR remote completely! The ability to watch on the iPad itself would be a brilliant addition, if that does come at some point.

This app will be very handy. e.g. if I'm watching something and Mrs D needs to check the Planner to set a recording or delete something I don't have to stop watching my programme as she can do it all via the iPad. It could even be used like one of those remote sender things, to control the box while watching the bedroom RF feed.

muppetman11 15-08-2012 14:49

Re: General Sky TV Discussion

I agree with all those points Matt , the app is excellent with tons more features to be added , I have multiroom and can now access both my boxes from one login which makes scheduling recordings a breeze whilst being able to view what's been recorded on both planners , all in all very happy.

Digitalspy now have a demo video on their site

Den your posts get more and more ludicrous as each day goes by , how do they have a higher quality threshold considering Sky carry every channel VM do with the exception of Film 4 HD , VM are now nothing more than a corner shop selling other broadcasters channels which is becoming more and more difficult now they've sold all their bargaining chips.

Best way is as follows

Go into On Demand - Movies then All , type first two or three letters of title

Example searching for Shrek type SHR and it should find both SD and HD if both are available. I'm sure at some point HD thumbnails will become default for Sky+HD subscribers.

Never thought of that way but still seems long winded. I hope they get HD thumb nails sorted. Its not a big issue but is a pain

BSkyB told to withdraw misleading 'rent movies instantly' advert.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012...stant-ad-claim

Quote:

The advertising watchdog has told BSkyB to stop exaggerating the speed of its film download service, after rival BT complained its claim that it was "instant" was misleading.
Quote:

The advertising watchdog was not swayed by BSkyB's argument.

It said that making a claim of "instant" indicated to consumers that they could watch a film "straightaway, or with no noticeable delay", when in fact Sky admitted that for some viewers with slower broadband connections the delay could be considerably longer.

"We considered that a delay of up to a minute for most customers (and longer for those with slower broadband connections) would not be in line with their reasonable expectations for an online movie service which was described as 'instant'," the ASA ruled. "We therefore considered that the ad had exaggerated the capabilities of the service and we concluded that it was likely to mislead."

Not been confirmed - yet.

But I think Sky Atlantic channel you are on about may move to Sky Channel 221 with Sky axing the Sky Livingit brand.

With Sky1 +1 launching on Sky Channel 122 or Sky Channel 170.

Thanks MM thats a great find. I have just installed it and had a play and its very useful. To those that havnt used it yet, once you have installed the application you still have to use the site to control the planner

Just for info;

Once you've launched the App and connected your Sky+HD boxes to your network simply hit the "scan for box's" button. It will then list your boxes and you can access all recorded shows, delete viewed shows or set new recordings.

In my opinion its fantastic, no need to interrupt your viewing, and is all very fast and slick.

This is true, for Sky customers to record all the great content they want we would need a 50Tb HDD in a HD box with 30 tuners lol. As Virgin have less channels and less HD a 3 tuner box is fine for their customers.

At least content, it is only after I watch it do I decide if it is great :)

Unless you meant great deal of content, which is true either way :)

What - you think my pointing out your main purpose for posting on this forum seems to be as a proxy for the Sky Sales & Marketing department is harassment/bullying? (your signature seems to re-inforce this...).

I am sorry you feel that way.
