it will still be insured on block insurance if the met still own it ,they may be keeping it for evidence locked in a pound somewhere and then scrapped and then removed from the policy

I believe the markings are unique to that vehicle whilst in service ,it helps to id the vehicle and is also the call sign of the vehicle ,so it would be pointless having the system if it wasn't unique ,i believe the number/letters can be used for replacement vehicles when the original is taken out of service

what do you base this belief on ie do you know for a fact that it is a unique id system or is it just something you would like to be true ?

Do you think the roof marking might match the ones on the side?

btw, to everyone, we are falling into an old debating trap - shouldn't the people putting forward the proposition that the van was abandoned deliberately to provoke a reaction have to prove the proposition, rather than others have to prove it isn't true?

Just saying......

This thread is supposed to be about Students Rioting in London and not a slanging match about a Police van that was trashed, so should this thread now be renamed or will the actual subject reappear.

Then we need to get a riot organised in London by the security building and we can then slip in and steal the evidence disguised as the cast from water ship down and demonstrating against higher warren fee's. No one will ever know ;)

It's unique to the Met and identifies the vehicle. I'd imagine at some point the codes are re-used but seeing there are roughly 35,000 possible combinations they can afford to leave the defunct ones off new vehicles for a while.

so this conspiracy dates back to the forties - obviously the van belongs to a covert government agency[wwii] originally commissioned by Winston himself ,it all becomes clear now -strategically place a van disguised as a police vehicle drawing in the enemies of state oppression so that they can be recognised by cctv surveillance camera's ,thus making it easy for the oppressors of free will to disappear these peaceful protesters who refuse to be oppressed by this tyrannical coalition of bullies and dare i say fibbers ..

Metropolitan Police face legal action for kettling children during tuition fees protest

Scotland Yard is facing legal action over claims that officers "falsely imprisoned" and assaulted schoolchildren during a tuition fees protest in London last month.

In what is believed to be the first lawsuit taken against police in connection with the violence, lawyers from human rights group Liberty have notified the Metropolitan Police of legal action involving minors who suffered "inhuman and degrading treatment" during a protest on 24 November.

Well it will be interesting to see how this turns out..though a 19 year old is technically not a child. He's a witness.Might be better as a separate thread.

The claim is on behalf of three young protesters, one of whom is a 15-year-old whose foot was broken after allegedly being struck by an officer when trying to leave a police kettle and who claims she was subsequently refused medical help. Another is a 17-year-old London student who became so distressed inside the "kettle" that her father said she came away suffering from shock. The third is Rory Evans, 19, whose ankle was broken during a crowd surge among protesters contained between police lines.

Long and boring but basically containment is legal.

If protestors want different forms of crowd control then it's time for more continental tactics such as CS and water cannon.

The problem is though the protesters don't want any crowd control ,they think that there is no justification for a police presence at all ,they think that smashing windows ect is all part of peacefull protesting

I honestly feel the police are being pushed towards a position where they will have to use the likes of plastic bullet, tear gas and water cannon. If they are not allowed to contain the hooligan students then that will be the only option because what the hooligan students want is to be able to run around rioting and smashing what they want, looting what they want, Beating up who they want, Well what they want is not what they are going to get. The more they riot i feel the more the Government will dig in.

well yes that is correct ,but if anyone can tell the difference between genuine peacefull protesters and those intent on causing damage then fine ,seperate and kettle those and let the peacefull ones continue ...but i don't somehow think it's that simple ,hence the police have to treat all as violent protesters and kettle all of them and untill the genuine protesters can find a way to stop the violence then they will all be tarred with the same brush

Yes i agree ,but if the police start using cs gas and water cannon then i think that will be a point scored for the anarchists amongst them ,i think they would love nothing more than to see those measures as they would see it as a excuse to escalate the violence

Ker-ching!

1. Deliberately ignore warnings from police for the kids to stay away from the protest
2. Get awarded the victory in court because the powers that be would never want to be seen supporting their own police force.
3. Profit.

And anyone that missed out on this get-rich-quick scheme, don't fret! They'll be another one in 2011 so their pot financing will be secure.

Oh and in at least one case a protestor has been proved to be lying. If they publicly state it's not true it must have been blatant lies.

Edward Woollard has just got 32 months in pokey (Well in reality a year or so) for chucking a fire extinguisher off the roof during the first protests. :)

I was too busy laughing to post for a few minutes. :D

32 months. Out in half, probably out on a tag a few months before halfway, not too bad a result. I reckon a few more of the halfwits who thought smashing up things or swinging on the cenotaph and trying to set fire to buildings during the protests might be requiring a change of underwear when they see this.

Out of interest, what do you reckon the sentence would have been if a PC had been injured by the fire extinguisher?

If anyone had been injured it would have been a lot longer sentence, it was lucky no one got hit as it could have killed them quite easily.

What an utterly, utterly crass claim for him to make. If he truly has no concept of the damage any object can do to a person when dropped from that sort of height, then he needs locking up for the protection of the public, regardless of any crime he may also have committed.

Chris

That's my feeling as well. He is supposed to be an intelligent student so he must have known what would happen when he picked up a heavy fire extinguisher, Lifted it above his head and then threw it down towards a crowd of people from the top of a very high building.

So i was correct the first time, He's a hooligan

Anyway he certainly will get an education in jail but i can offer one free bit of educational advice "Don't drop your soap in the shower". :)
