I don't think I'll ever go back to Sky again. Virgin's service is far superior in my view.

There was some talk of different deals or release times/dates for VIP customers as well. I wonder if that is still the case....?

There will not be a 320gb Tivo box at launch.

True, but there will be a watered down version later, probably for customers as all the staff will have the 1TB models :sulk:

Incorrect, a percentage of those boxes will be for staff. The rest will be for actual customers.

Well I won't be paying 189 for a 320gb version LOL :-) incidentally can anyone tell me where this existing customer price has come from as I've only seen a price of 199 + 40 install.

£199/£40 install/£3 month price is for new customers, existing customer price is similar aside from it being £149 instead, and all those boxes will be the 1TB version. Any other kind of TiVo box from VM will come at a later date once the product's lifecycle has at least developed into the consumer market, just like any other device.

Have they ordered enough for pre reg customers

£149 and £40 is what i was expecting for existing. customers. although I'm kinda hoping the £3 monthly fee will be waived for VIP customers.

Who knows on that one, only they do. Obviously it will be existing customers first and I would imagine VIPs probably getting the first crack of the whip, cascading from thereon until they finally make it available for all and sundry. Of course until some form of official annoucement this thread will grow and grow, with some occasional watering of course.

That's fair actually.

I do have one question actually. I have a V+ box downstairs and the VHD box in the bedroom. When Tivo is released, am I able to keep all my boxes and have the VHD box installed in another bedroom? obviously there are costs involved in that. Would anyone be able to shed some light on the potential costs of that?

Some of them that post here are helpful indeed and knowledgeable to boot, but that isn't the general rule of thumb.

As I'm no install tech who drives around in a van with some funky hearts on, answer to the latter would be no ;)

Probably, but you will be able to make an educated choice of which one you would prefer to have. Surely this is a good thing? :D

Of all the traning and literature received with regards to the training and roll out have only ever feature a 1TB HDD STB.

When the first build (alpha) boxes arrived the startup was 57 minutes, thats the time from the engineer plugging it in to the Stb being full working. Since then having had software upgrades and hardware upgrades the time is now down to 18 mins!!

Quick one for the VM Techs...

My fingers have been twitching for 2 months now, whether to wait for TiVo to come out or to go ahead without it and then upgrade. I really need fast broadband urgently, but would rather go for a bundle.

So, yes, I know you can't tell us anything yet, but could you at least tell me:
- Am I better off waiting for TiVo to be out?
- Should I buy a bundle now (with XL TV) and then ask to upgrade to TiVo as soon as it is out? Will that be possible? Without costing me more than waiting?

Note that I registered my interest for TiVo pretty much as soon as the page appeared on the VM website.

Upgrade now, then when TiVo finally arrives upgrade to that like everyone else.

Need XL TV to get TiVo anyway

It isnt known what bundles (if any) will be available when TiVo launches. It has been stated since initial announcement that existing customers will get priority on the boxes, so obviously taking services as a new customer would mean you would have to wait that little bit longer anyway.

You could take a bundle now and upgrade to TiVo when it becomes available, but obviously this would be at the existing customer price of £149 plus £40 install with an additional £3 a month on top of whatever your bundle tariff would be.

This whole thing is developing into some form of mass hysteria. It's only another PVR. The only reallly serious advantage over the V+ box is the larger hard drive. If you take into consideration that it has just two tuners (the third is just a maybe), no dynamic epg, the usual as yet unforseen bugs, plus a significant cost to install and subscribe, we really are dealing with a serious case of "The King's New Clothes".

Get a grip folks and don't be drawn in to paying more for a box that does little more than you have already.

If I take into consideration you're obviously not that clued up on the VM TiVo implementation, I'll carry on knowing for a fact that it has 3 tuners.

This has been confirmed by VM themselves, it is physically in the box it just has no software support as of yet.

And isn't that far off being implemented.

Does anyone know the Cisco model number of the Tivo box?

Also been going through the manual do I understand this correctly:

Quote:

so if your are interrupted during your favourite show, or haven't got time to catch the last few minutes, you can record the saved portion of along with the rest of the show by pressing R and then choosing Record this show
So does this mean that if I hit record halfway through watching a show it will keep then save what is in the buffer a swell?

It's just a software update to enable the third tuner to work, unfortunately I can not go into why or when :)

But it is hoped that it will be enabled for the customer launch.

Thanks spiderplant just working out how I am going to map my Logitech Harmony One.

Just finished browsing the manual nice to see the box can receive 1080p video which makes it future proof. I am guessing this is still a HDMI 1.3 device?

Re: TiVo

Given the similarities between the US and VM TiVo remote controls (no TiVo button on the VM remote) at a guess I'd say you can add PVR > TiVo > TCD-4 as a device on your Harmony One and plan out what you want to map.

I could of course be completely wrong and the VM TiVo remote might use different IR codes!

Re: TiVo

On the US version you can schedule recordings from your mobile web browser at tivo.com will this be the same here or will it be via VM website ?:D

Just spoke to a VM tech and he states TIVO is a couple of months off on the North West

Re: TiVo

There will be an android and apple app (basically be the same EPG as on the box) and you will be able to do in online and through WAP. You will need a VM email (blueyonder or ntlworl is ok) to sign into it and you will have to select your package details, had a look at the apps last week and they are very nice, looks and feels the same as the EPG on the STB and you need to give the STB 35 mins notice before a program to record it but VM will state 1 HR to be safe.

It should be ready for customer launch ;)

Sounds good that Android app should work on my HTC Desire. I wasn't sure about apps as I didn't see reference to them on the US TIVO premiere.

You are both barking up the wrong tree. It uses the same codes as the V+, with just a few new buttons such as the thumbs. In fact you can drive it perfectly well using a V+ remote.

I think it's 1.3 at the moment. Going to 1.4 only requires a software update.

The mobile site is already up and running I was having a look last night. Although the URL seems to redirect somewhere elseinstead of virgin media unlike the desk top version.

Speaking to techs in different regions is like playing a game of chinese whispers. Up until recently only one or two principle techs in most locations were even trained. Apparently someone talked to Branson's PA who looks after his dog and she said "soon".

2010 December then january then february then march now june this sums Virgin up as they do not seem to know what date the tivo is being released, companies should have a clear plan not behave like a bunch of amateurs and treat customers poorly.

That suggests to me that they are experiencing serious problems during the staff testing phase. If not why, after all the hype, are there no boxes for customers and why do the staff have to sign the official secrets act.

This is a completely new box manufactured by Cisco, not Tivo, and it has a completely new software programme designed by Tivo for Virginmedia. It is bound to have problems. All you have to do is look back at the introduction of any of the platforms when they introduced new technology. They all had bugs. Even the Samsung V+ had a serious fault resulting in many boxes failing and having to be replaced.

When the Desire came out I so wanted it but contract etc.. then HD was mentioned and came. Perfect timing with contract finished within two months of release.
Though my wife, who has the wildfire, did say something size etc... They are never satisfied :D;)

They said December and some staff got it in December. Pretty sure they always said full rollout wouldn't be till march anyway which they seem on track for.

People are taking every little rumour as fact. Written word is a wondeful thing as it can so often be misconstrued or interpreted. The only thing that will happen by June is that by that point TiVo will be well and truely amongst us.

To borrow a quote from Wayne's World - 'if you book them, they will come..'

Does the TiVo need a seperate (another) cable to connect to the internet or will the exisiting coax cable suffice? Will there need to be any alteration to the wires inside our house and the box on the front wall?

Just one cable as you have now

It has an internal cable modem and it just uses the one cable feed for that and TV. Nothing should have to be done with the wiring inside your house!

Do they need access to the box on the wall to test this or can they do that from teh cable that comes out of the box into the STB? As mine is hidden away behind a cupboard which is a right pain to move.

Hi all, been reading this thread with immense excitement. Just switched from Sky had a Sky Switcher deal from vm witch was pretty good. Sky tried the old 'we have more HD channels then them' but i wasn't listening, TIVO was all i was thinking. Was with vm a couple of years ago and only really moved because they had poor HD at the time (that seems to have all changed know)

any road get vm installed on Tuesday:) and registed for TIVO does anyone know if i would get a look in at the first lot of release or would i have to wait untill TIVO is available to all

Existing customers will get priority but other than that no one knows the roll out procedure
