I pay £113 on VIP50. I have 2 x V+ boxes and a V box. I have always felt that this is too high. Any opinions welcome.

That's correct (at 17.5% VAT)

£97.50 is VIP 50 with 1 V+ HD and 1 non-PVR
+ £10 V+ HD fee for the second V+ HD box
+ £5.60 for it being the third box on the account
=£113.10

How would a Tivo affect the price? How can I check if I am one of the 5000?

Have you considered getting married for a one-off fee which maybe her parents will subsidise? You'll reduce your living expenses by sharing rent/mortgage, council tax, utilities, appliances, food and one VIP50 subscription. Of course you may well have to fight over the programming choice but that's what PVRs and multi-room are for! :)

As it seems that there is not going to be any VIP Tivo package then I think I am going to take the plunge and go for the upgrade to VIP50 and get the second HD box while I'm at it as it would also give me the premium HD channels for free also.

So is there a best option to sort this so I can talk to a UK person. What day and time can I call. Sorry to say but the 2 occasions I have had to deal with overseas for Virgin they have just plainly given me false information.

Also from what I have read just above the only fee would be for the £20 activation for 50Mb?

:D I like how they leave me with no choice but to upgrade to VIP50.

VIP20 with £3.15 April increase takes me up to £99.97 and it's ony 50 odd pence more for VIP50....I'll have to pitch that to the mrs!!

IMHO I would say it'd be much easier to just have a VIP package, and not a VIP20 and VIP50, especially now as the prices are so close it really makes no difference. A VIP package with everything included in it. Simples!

Depends when you took out VIP20. People on it before April 2010 had a rise that those after didn't

Same happened on VIP50, but that was then reversed when the Sky Premium HD channels were added

I've been on VIP since the beginning - if it will only be an extra 50p for me I'll most likely get it then even though I don't really need the bandwidth.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I'm currently paying £95.74 for a VIP20 package ( £66.24 for main services £29.50 for Movies 4+5,Sports 1+2).

I've had this package for a while and given the close proximity of various prices these days I am considering a change.

When Virgin briefly stopped broadcasting the Sky Channels I bought a 2 pack package from Sky with a standard box which now costs £20 per month.

Sky are offering a good package of all 6 entertainment packs plus sports and movies for £52 plus I may be able to get a free Sky+ box.

I'd like to drop Talk Mobile,Talk International and the Movie & Sports packages from VIP20 and like to upgrade my Broadband to 50Mb but want to retain everything else.

In this way I hope to improve my Sky and Virgin Services but at a slightly lower cost.

The only problem is that I get a Phone,TV and BB discount and a Set Box discount but don't know if this will apply outside the VIP package and what the new monthly cost will be.

I don't really want to approach customer services yet until I'm clear what the costs would be as though my monthly outgoings may be lower there will probably be some installation charges which I will have to budget for once I know what they are.

Can anybody help please?

I qualify for a £34.50 phone,tv and broadband discount and the £9.50 set top box discount at present. I'm just wondering if I would still qualify for those discounts if I gave up the sports and movies components. If not I'm wondering how much discount I can get so I can calculate my new monthly bill. can anyone advise please?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Just ordered VIP 50, contract came through yesterday.
The only extras I have are:
Second box is V+ ( additional £6.50)
Caller Display ( £2.05)
Soooooo if VIP50 is 100.55 + 8.55 = £109.10
But contract states £ 109.45 !!
PLUS Is this price from April or existing ?
Hate to ask Ben but if you could help.........

BenMcr 11-02-2011 17:14

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

If your second box is a V+ HD then that's + £10.

So current VIP 50 is £97.40 + £2.05 + £10 = £109.45

Price is pre April

So post April it will be £100.55 + £10 + £2.05 = £112.60

dazed&confused 11-02-2011 17:36

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thanks Ben - you're a star.

What puzzles me though, is that I'm currently paying £ 15.00 less discount of
£ 9.40 ( £5.60 ) for my second V+ box, and if you use VM's package builder, the additional cost for a second V+ from April is £6.50.??

Thanks again for a quick reply

BenMcr 11-02-2011 18:00

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

The additional boxes go up by 90p in April, that's factored into the total price (and stated increase) of VIP 50

Sorry if I'm being thick.
I can understand that my Additional V+ box will go from £5.60 to £6.50
But how come the £10.00 as your first post. Same box I've now got.
No mention of £ 10.00 on package builder.

BenMcr 11-02-2011 22:57

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

The package builder uses the wrong pricing structure when it comes to additional V+ HD boxes on the VIP bundles. It's been reported

philipp 12-02-2011 01:03

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

As dazed&confused , we also upgraded to VIP 50 (we had no tv at all changing from sky). We still waiting for the contract to come through the post and also wanted a V+ HD box instead of the normal V Box upstairs like him and have been quoted the same monthly amounts.

We were told we would have to pay activation for this box - £99.99 (can't be certain as the contract not here yet and it took a while for the agent to process the order and had to call us back). Even though it says on http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/ins...n-charges.html "1. All customers ordering our VIP (Very Impressive Package) or VIP 50Mb bundles will receive V HD and V+ HD activations for free." Or does that only count with the v+hd and normal v hd box with vip 50 deal?

Considering we only asked for the 2 boxes (2 V+HD), are we technically paying for 3 as you get one within the VIP deal? (the V+HD, V HD and the V+HD box). If so, could you, if we wanted, could we add this at a later date if you wish (I don't think we do) at no extra cost per month (might encure install charges later)????

BenMcr 12-02-2011 01:36

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

You shouldn't have to pay for any HD activation fees on VIP, no matter what box you are getting. You only have to pay for installation fees.

I would phone back up and complain that you are getting charged for it. If you don't get anywhere ask for the call to be escalated until you do

philipp 12-02-2011 14:11

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thanks Ben,

I received the contract today and theres no mention of activation charges on the one of costs part of it. So looks like they did it correctly.

It did say 000001 Additional V Box (or something like that) instead of the Additional V+HD Box. I phoned up and the agent said don't worry all is correct.

Roll on upgrade date on the 28th.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

couple of points that i suspect have already been discussed. apologies if i am repeating but i've got myself confused.

been an original vip since it first launched and decided now is the time to make some changes

upgraded my bb from xl20 to xl30, price has gone down by 3 quid a month so thats all good. also a £30 one off charge which i expected and am happy to pay

asked about swapping the old box in the bedroom for a vhd box, he said that would be 69.50 (!) i told him not to bother

finally i asked about switching off sky sports/movies to save some money - he said i dont get charged for them, or rather i do but its cancelled out by the tv/bb/phone discount which i would lose ? that didnt make a lot of sense to me

was a puzzling few minutes i must admit

triple xl is xl phone, xl tv and xl BB (30meg). That's the package below VIP30 as far as I've been able to tell from other posts. It doesn't have the movies. I'm not sure what else might be different though.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Hi there, was thinking of going to the VIP50 package and have been trying to figure out the benefits and the cost.

Currently I receive. . .

TV XL
10 meg BB
Phone (inc: Talk Unlimited)
Tivo Box
V+HD Box

It looks like I'm paying around £58 for this (unsure as my last bill had £149 Tivo cost added to it) and not taking into any upcoming price increases but around £58.

As there is only one child still in the house I was hoping to kill off our Sky boxes and switch to Vip50 which would give us most of the programmes by adding in Sports and Movies (inc the HD option where available). We would also be getting a decent BB increase to 50meg.

What should I be expecting, pricewise, before I ring up?
Am I tied to a minimum term?
Do I still receive an additional HD box (I already have an additional V+HD)

Just looking for a few ideas before I ring and start messing the staff about by getting them to look at all options.

Thanks for any pointers.

Mimar

Triple XL doesn't include Talk International, Talk Mobile or the second STB

You also have to pay higher install fees for HD boxes

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Since July 2009, I have had Broadband package: XXL (50Mbps) plus Phone L for £43.74 pm but Sky currently provide my Television (6 packs, HD, Movies & Sport).

I have been trying to find out the cost of upgrading to the VIP 50 Bundle as I understand that it should provide me with a similar television package. I have tried looking online to find out the cost of upgrading to this package but haven't been able to find an upgrade path for existing customers (only new customers).

I sent a message to customer services last Sunday (via the "contact us" link on the website) as I want to work out the figures and make a decision about moving from Sky before talking to sales. I haven’t had my "response within 48 hours" but maybe there are some changes going on – can anyone on here help with this information:

1. Is VIP 50 is an option that is available to me?
2. If so, how do I go about upgrading (no option on the website as far as I can see)?
3. How much would it cost to upgrade, e.g. monthly payment, set-up and activation fees?
4. What is within the VIP 50 bundle (What is here http://shop.virginmedia.com/bundles/...e-package.html but with a non-new customer price?)

Thanks in advance.

BenMcr 02-03-2011 16:55

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

1) Should be
2) Best option would be to go through Customer Services
3) Depends what you are paying, but the total cost of VIP will £100.55 a month. Install would be £40 (although there are sometimes offers on that)
4) Whether you qualify for the 6 month offer is the only thing you would need to get clarified. Ongoing monthly price for VIP 50 is the same for everyone

Query for Ben probably.

My package is VIP20
I just installed my VHD box in my study that my daughter had. She did not have it activated for HD.

It was my understanding that the VIP bundle included free activation for both my v+ box and my VHD boxes. I just phoned CS and they were adamant that though I could have both boxes I had to pay an additional £49 to have the second box activated. Was the girl in CS correct? - if she was wrong how do I get this sorted?

BenMcr 03-03-2011 12:34

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

No she's not correct. You should be able to get it activated without any further cost.

As with anything, if you don't get the resolution you should, ask to have the call esclated until you do

Ok Ben I am now totally confused after speaking to CS again. The woman is trying to tell me that I am on VIP but not VIP(20) which is where I am entitled to a VHD box. She was happy to put me on this but it would put my bill up a couple of £'s/mo. I couldn't enen argue this one - never heard this one before and it has blown my mind.

To be honest mate, you are probably best going for the VIP50 package from a value point of view anyway. You get the 50 meg broadband and the Sky Premier HD channels for only a fiver more than the VIP20.

I'm not sure if phoning them back and asking to go up to that package would aid you in getting the free activation.

I am not trying to get anything for free - I am just trying to get what I am told I am entitled to as part of the VIP package. What puzzles me is I am being told that I have an inferior version of the VIP package whichn I have had since its inception. Just when has a gap appeared between VIP + VIP20?

I understand your point about the VIP50 though by the sound of it to increase ny inferior VIP package would cost more :(

I despair

You should definitely be having your HD box activated for nothing even on the VIP20 package.

I just thought it worth mentioning about the VIP50 as it seems a far better deal. It's £100.55 a month after the price increase in April.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

A HUGE thank you to Merrik in retentions and our own Ben who sorted the issue out for me.

Firstly the young lady (Helen I think ) was misinformed re the VIP packages)
Merrik spent alot of time looking at this but still thought I probably would need to pay £50 activation fee. After reading the posts on cableforum he emailed Ben who pointed him in the right direction.

so sorted + thanks guys.

Mimar

Sorry if it bad form to quote oneself but has anyone any idea's on this . . .

Reading through the previous few pages I presume the Vip50 costs about £96-£100 and you just take whats in the package, is that correct?

But what about length of term and number of boxes?

And does already having the Tivo make any difference.

Thanks in advance.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

The question is; why don't CS know the correct pricing?

I never ring CS to change things without coming on forums first to get the correct pricing; CS have told me the incorrect price on at least one occasion.

Surely this is unaccceptable?

Thanks to Ben and others like him, I'm not paying more than I should do. But not all VM customers use forums; how many of them have been over chaged?

warrenb 03-03-2011 16:41

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Yes does seem to be a problem with CS. I wanted a HD box and am on VIP50. Got quoted 3 different prices until I went through to retentions and shouted at them about the whole thing.
Got the box sent to me and activation free.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I agree that giving wrong pricing isn't acceptable, which is why I keep saying to anyone that does think that's the case to escalate the call. Without you doing so, then the circumstace of why the wrong information was given can't be identified

I would point out that it's not always the advisor that is at fault

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Ben, Devilincarnate, & Knack,

I have been busy this morning but just to let you know I ordered the VIP50 bundle this afternoon, with installation scheduled for morning of 9th March 2011.

Dialled 150 as suggested and, from the accent, I got through someone in India, who to be fair was pleasant and helpful. Initially told me that there was only one box with the package but after investigating further confirmed two boxes (V HD & V+ HD Box) and accepted my request to upgrade the V HD Box to V+ HD Box, so two of the later. He confirmed no HD Activation fees with VIP50 package.

The post April cost according to him is £116.80 pm, my calculation was £110.55 pm, and I’m not sure where he gets the extra £6.33 – maybe I’m wrong. He went off twice to check the price and was adamant that it was £116.80 but with a six month discount of £12.25 pm. There is also a £40 installation fee.

I’m not unhappy as I fully expected to pay an installation fee and the six month discount is a bonus. The extra £6.33 irritates me but only because I’m mystified by it. I will know more once the paperwork comes through and maybe it will even be £110.55 pm by then, who knows. I will escalate it if its wrong but in any case the discount just about covers the difference. In the meantime, if anyone can through any light on the extra £6.33, I’d be obliged – even if you tell me my calculations are wrong.

Once again many thanks for your help.

I would wait and see what the contract says. If it's still wrong a posting of the services listed should help identify where the extra is coming from (contracts no longer show the individual lines which cause all the confusion but match how Virgin now quote their pricing)

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Isn't it about time the details of the new VIP package/packages were released? I seem to remember in December that we were told the specifics would be given "early in the new year" or words to that effect.
I appreciate that a lot of time and energy must be going into the TiVo launch, but surely all the necessary prices and packages could be published, even if it was made clear that they wouldn't come into being for another month or two. At least that way people can decide if they either want, or can afford the package and will know where they stand.
I really feel VM need to pull their finger out on this one and give us the information ASAP!

BenMcr 03-03-2011 18:11

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Considering the new VIP bundles likely include a TiVo option it's unlikely they could be detailed without giving away details of the TiVo rollout.

So I reckon we'll see details at the same time as TiVo is avaliable to everyone

You start publishing prices and you get people ringing in and being told sorry we are not taking orders but we are letting you know how much it will be when it becomes available, cue very angry customers.

I understand what you are saying Ben, but my point is we all know that TiVo is coming to all at some point so why not release the package details so people know what the options are when the moment comes?

No one would be happy if any company stated you can have a new product for £xx but you will not be able to order it for 2/3 months anyway.

Sorry but I can't agree.
If VM had announced that they were bringing out TIVO say on the 1st. June, with an approximate price of around £ 150-200, plus a small additional monthly fee it would have killed all the speculation, and constant bickering about not getting the phone call.

Similarly with the VIP packages - good value at present, but new pricing from the 1st of June..July whatever. Details will be announced by the ......

AV kit (e.g. the IPAD) always is presented in advance, with an available date in the future. I hated the waiting but at least you knew where you were. The date of the IPAD had to be put back due to demand, but Apple announced this well in advance.

It's the same old problem with VM - good product - lousy communication.

Rant Over

:)

And Sky would then know they needed to reduce their 1TB box to match it and do something to spoil the launch ;)

plus they'd have x amount of time to aggressively market and target VM customers.

True ......... but

1. Sky's 1TB would then be a direct comparison with TIVO, and I know which one would win
2. Sky are aggressively marketing VM customers now

I'm convinced the improvements to the vip packages will involve TiVo in one way or another. Therefore I doubt we will hear until a full launch of TiVo has commenced.

But surely if existing customers are currently being approached to get Tivo (not just the raffle people) then you'd imagine they'd have sorted out the packages first.

I have Neil Burkett's email address but is there another one better than going stright to the top?

It was July when a lot of us on VIP contacted the CEO office about the lack of value for money it is now and we all had the response saying the VIP bundle was being looked at for a Q1 relaunch. So ok we are not at the end of Q1 just yet but 3 weeks time we will be.

Add to that the fact that I am a VIP50 and have had no raffle ticket, no call about Tivo (despite being a pre register within hours of the site being launched) and no remote through the post it's becoming very annoying.
Seem to be able to contact me about the forthcoming price rise though so they obviously have my contact details.

All VIP's were in 2 automatic raffles, about 2,000 VIP's got a free TiVo. That will be why you didn't get a raffle ticket for the last one.

With so many people treating the route to the CEO office as a finate route for answers maybe they have moved on from that route. It was a welcome change of course but there are limits. I guess they were overloaded with the number of queries. These things only work for a short time. The CEO has his duties to perform along with his department.
I, like anyone else would like questions answered at the drop of a hat but in the real world it's not always possible. I would think the queries from customers are now routed back to Customer Service like they would have been in the first place.

If I had been told I was in a raffle for the chance to win a box etc then that would have been a good plus point instead of me just reading loads of people getting called and given it for free and having no clue as to why but being afraid to ask!

Am I right to think that as I have not heard from Virgin about Tivo that I am not one of the about 2000 winners or are they still contacting people?

Having already had a case of that's not right/yes it is with VM (See post 1167), I have used the "Contact Us" link on the website to seek clarification from from customer services and the automated response says "...will get back to you as quickly as possible, usually within 5 days..." I don't hold out much hope though as I am still awaiting "...a response from us within the next 48 hours..." to the query I submitted to them on 27th February (raised it on this forum on 2nd March and Ben provided answers within the hour.)

Any suggestions as to what else I can do?

Thanks
