sniper007, get over yourself! That's possibly the stupidest post ever written on this thread, and I should know, I’ve posted a few myself.

"An HD" is correct depending on your pronunciation of the term. Many people will say "aytch dee", in which case the an prefix is correct. If you pronounce it "haytch dee" though it would require an a.

Virgin Media to broadcast FX for free to all Viewers?

Reports are coming in that FX is on the M+ Package.

Any idea how long this will last?

And will it appear on catch up?

I think with True Blood starting Tonight Virgin Media are having a freeview for FX for the next few weeks before going back to XL only.

It amazes me that anyone who rarely make a worthwhile contribution wants to knock the considerable efforts of mediaboy.
If mediaboy gave information prematurely it could easily cause embarrassment to his source/s and if those sources dried up no doubt someone would moan about the lack of information here.
Keep up your efforts mediaboy, without you this thread would be sparse indeed.

Hey i have just seen this over on DS, so now no longer on bravo?

Extreme Sports Channel nabs TNA events

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...na-events.html

Last month, TNA renewed its deal with Bravo to continue transmission of TNA iMPACT! at 9pm every Saturday. In total, TNA now broadcasts 15 hours of wrestling programmes every month on all channels in the UK.

Lol BT vision, now there's a joke. The sales rep in my local mall don't even bother trying to sell to passersby they just sit there and wait for you to come to them. They only target elderly people.

Even though i think that its only a rumour...this guy on this other forum (linked below) has this to say about new channels...:erm:

Knowing Virgin Media, these could be the channels that we do that swap deal with so sky get to own Virgin Media channels.... I HOPE NOT.... i want Sky Sports HD etc.

zantarous 26-02-2010 14:21

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

I am going to take that with a huge pinch of salt, and when I say pinch I do mean a huge crane. No way in the world there is a deal for Sky Arts (hell I didn't even know there was a Real Lives HD).

There others are at least credible.

Come on just do a deal with Sci Fi already, surely that has to be a easier one to nab. and has some nice first run content.

Edit:

Maybe Bravo and Living appearing on Sky Player has something to do with this?

tvtimes 26-02-2010 14:25

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Any more HD is welcome to me, yes it would be nice to have the other Sky HD channels but i imagine these won't come without some kind of subscription. At least with this Virgin has managed to agree extra HD from Sky and it most likely won't come with a HD surcharge.

I think it's amazing that VM have managed to whittle anything out of Sky at all it's like getting blood from a stone! :)

Why are people to quick to be negative? Just have some faith in what people say. It is so pointless in crushing anyone who shares information when they really do not have to. That will just make them keep reputable information to themselves infuture of anyone else with reputable information be too afraid to post. People are quick to attack Media boy when he posts informed information it makes you wonder why he still bothers, he may aswell keep it to himself. I really don't see why people would go out of their way to post inside information when they themselves know it's cr@p. Hello and welcome to the internet! People post rumours as fact all the time. MB has a proven track record. Most of us probably have not read the other posters previous posts, it is hard to get excited by a rumour post when the source has bugger all to back it up.

That's exactly what I thought, some people delight in starting rumours both on and off the internet.

As that particular poster doesn't seem to have a track record for doing that though, perhaps I was to quick to make a negative judgement.

OH and BTW, keep up the good work Media Boy.

Who knows but keep an eye out for the ofcom pay tv enquirey, who may tell sky to wholesale some premium sport/ movie HD content, when it delivers its final report due this month. Of course it may well be a damp squib but after three years almost there is a hope it may come up with something half decent.;)

I don't have too much faith in the OFCOM report. That has been going on for years and Sky will just appeal and appeal and appeal for as long as they can

To be honest i would not hold out too much hope myself, but in an article i found it said ofcom may use its powers to force a price cut allowing sky to appeal afterwards.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...edia-ofcom-sky

Ofcom know sky love trhe courts after the itv shares marathon of court cases which sky threw money at galore but still lost.

Not long to go to find out what ofcom propose if anything.

Virgin will have those by this summer, if not through ofcom then they will pay for it. CS told me that they need to do this to keep up with Sky so there is not a heap of customers converting to Sky.

Have faith it will be here in the summer along with ITV HD

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

i think Virgins low churn rate, proves that there isnt too many people, just rushing to sky because of their red burron or HD channels, and with virgin being more proactive, you may see the reverse, as Virgin HD isnt at a premium

I never believe anything I hear from CS as they say anything to stop people moving to Sky.

As stated VM are doing ok on their own without the Sky channels in HD at the moment, they still have the Sky channels in SD, and as they showed before they could survive without Sky Basics too

I have not seen any thing that back up that rumour on DS Forum from any of my Virgin Insiders so I am not going to add that Info. onto this week list update.

Update: An Virgin Insider has just told me that rumour on DS Forums is bogus.

What :shocked::shocked: Never ! bogus rumours on forums, supported by no evidence i'm not having that.LOL :D:D

I would have been surprised it it was true, given skys reluctance to sell any channels with the word "HD" in it to any other platform.

I wonder if sky could have done a deal for some channels to appear on catch up tv on demand on vm in return as the Quid Pro Quo?

Of course its just as usual until more concrete evidence, just pure conjecture.

Virgin targets Sky with broadband and TiVo deal

Virgin has beaten BT and can take on Sky with its broadband and on-demand TV technology. says boss Neil Berkett.

The chief executive of Virgin Media claims the TiVo-powered PVR set to replace V+ will unite broadcast and on-demand video for a superior experience.

Berkett told the FT: "Broadband is our natural heritage, so we’ve grown from being just middle of the pack in broadband to being number one. We haven’t done that in video. Sky owns that ground in video."

"What we now need to do is move, as a minimum, to parity with Sky, in terms of video, and we will do that through applications [such as TiVo] as opposed to through exclusive content [such as football]."

Recent financial improvements also mean the Virgin Media channels -
including Living, Bravo and Virgin 1 - don't need to be sold, and it's
possible that Virgin will hold onto its 50 per cent stake in UKTV, which produces Dave, Watch and Eden.

And Virgin is also expecting a favourable resolution to the long-running Ofcom pay-TV investigation, which could see a significant cut in the rates it pays Sky for premium sports and films.

Berkett added that Virgin has already overtaken BT in broadband by offering 50Mbit/s fibre optic connections and was already trialling 200Mbit/s to customers in Kent.

BT is currently rolling out the infrastructure for a 100Mbit/s network, although most customers will only get 40Mbit/s.

You don't set dates to debunk rumors, so that's a yes, they're going.

Lol:D It will take some time before Virgin can truly compete with Sky for Video but eventually i think they will over take them. They are all the favourite in cabled areas and once tivo takes over and is marketed correctly, more infills of their network is done plus they lower Sports and other premiums like HD to make them cheaper than Sky i think VM will see a sharp rise in customers moving over. The future is looking very bright for cable and they seem to be moving more than one step in the right direction.

I don't think it will take all that long, just a decent ruling from ofcom.

Other than HD and red button, what does Sky have on VM? A few extra channels no one watches is about it.

The box software is not only behind tivo, but also behind VM's current one, it might be marginally faster on some boxes, but it lacks the features of the VM one with only the HD epg being able to offer what the SD VM one does.

I personally prefer the layout of sky's tv guide/menu system and the remote is much better but hey each to their own.

After all I am still struggling to see why people want hd so badly especially when it will be the same content as now (ugh) quantity over quality methinks

That is of course entirely your opinion, which many people disagree with.

The VM box in painfully slow and even worse than that at times. Since i went onto the new head end (LU) interactive is even slower.

When i press red on freeview it's instant... it takes about 30m-40 seconds on V+ box.

VM MUST sort this out soon.

I really want to jump into the HD revolution big time with Sky Sports and movies and more.

I've done it with Gaming on PS3 and with Films blu ray player. Watching films like Knowing, i Robot, I am Legend on blu ray is amazing.

Watching the Six Nations and Carling Cup final on BBC HD is awesome. Also watching Prem Football on ESPN HD is quality! And watching Saving private Ryan yesterday on C4 HD was great..

I just want to enjoy that quality a lot more with sports and movies!

I've got a 46" 1080p Toshiba LCD, Yamaha 1900 av reciever, 7.1 speakers.

Exact same position here, i'm not sure how long I can wait for Virgin to get Sky Sports HD, I have decided I will wait until the end of summer and then switch to Sky, probably still keep my cable broadband though!

We can only hope that they do rule in favour of BT VM etc.
