One good thing about card sharing is that it leaves a log and once the server is tracked they also then have all the IP's of the people connecting.. granted the server might be abroad but there's a better chance at removing in a single stroke thousands of people off in one go than currently just hitting a person selling these boxes

This is all good news. I have not been of for a long while, as i left virgin a few years ago. I remember the days when i got 20mb 24/7 anyway long story. I might come back if they get a hold of these freeloaders. I always thought if so many people say they know people using them why not give a years free subs for a conviction, if the news covered it 10 in where ever get £1000 pound fines for it it would soon stop it...keep up the good work and brick-em all......i might come back ;)

i called them and told them i had a box which is on what im not paying for.
i have xl broadband with you can i have hd xl tv please they said no problem we will send someone to install your new services soon. i asked what should i do with the box that is in he said unplug it and leave it for the installer to take. so i dont really think vm are not that bothered who or who wasnt paying for subs before as long as they pay now. i confessed and was forgiven i was using it for 2 years and really didnt think of it as theft. but i suppose it is but if its there in your face most people will take it. like now if i didnt have a choice i would pay like i have now maybe vm should of done this a long time ago to stop us so called thiefs. even though i have never stole a thing in my life. i just dont like the way you make out like all chipped box owners are hardcore crims. i think you take your job too seriously. i could of gone to sky but i didnt i stayed lol with virgin for all the FREEBIES they have given me over the years cheers vm now im a sub so what arrr thats better

800 quid..dreambox cost around 50 quid on ebay..disequc motor around 30 quid..dish around 50 quid..id say your m8 was done..roughly around 300 quid and thats including cs for both uk/itilian packages for the year;)

I would rather that you are telling me that Virgin Media WILL be going after both those cardsharing and misusing multiroom boxes. I suspect that this is a lot easier and cheaper to do than changing all of your cards.

The system can see which boxes have the new cards so any box that is not paired with a NAGRA3 card will be so much easier to see amongst al the legit ones which will make them traceable and the properties liable to have their taps disconnected.

The system can't see a box that isn't talking back though, only official boxes.

The old minimum sub keeps the tap connected, and the boxes are impossible to detect unless you do a physical sweep cabinet by cabinet looking for noise, which would still be very hit and miss.

You have far too much faith in the ability of the system to detect 3rd party boxes, after all if it could detect them then it would be trivial to find them regardless of n3. You'd just have to compare the detected boxes with the currently subbed addresses, a process that can be completely automated and done extremely easily.

There is simply no way to detect a cs box, and the only cs servers that will ever be shut down are the commercial ones. Cs has been going on for years on other platforms and it's always resisted any effort to shut it off, even sky haven't managed to beat cs and they have arguably the best encryption going.

There is currently no way for VM to prevent theft of service completely, they've gone a long way to greatly reducing the volume of it, but it's not going to stop completely, and anyone that thinks it is is extremely naive.

What it has done is reduce the impact. No longer will complete noobs who need to be spoon fed everything be able to buy a box at the local computer fair and just plug it in. As far as the commercial servers i feel they will be hunted down. It does not take a lot for VM to packet sniff for the information via one of there DPI boxes, The data being transmitted back and forth will have a unique packet structure and that can be sniffed i am sure..

Before there was not many doing CS, Imagine what is going to happen now that more are doing it.

VM will have a reason to trace this via DPI also the spoon fed morons will have no idea how to set up a vpn. It will only take one spoon fed moron on a open connection to point the cable company at the location of the servers. If you are so stupid as to think they will not do something about it then you need your bumps feeling. DPI i might hate it but in this case it will do good.

Previously there was no way to track down a modified box, now with n3 they've forced the die hards to go with CS which is fully traceable.. I believe not only will they go for the servers but also for the users (whether you use VM as the ISP for the sharing or not)

They can then not only take them to court (criminal not civil offence) but also remove all VM equipment from their property (whether it be legally installed or not) and ban them for life from having a VM install

They don't want to pay for any thing because there thieving scummy types, Yet now they have to pay for the box, Potentially pay for access to the server after the first year, Pay for a VPN, And of course pay for fines if they get court :LOL:

And there will be server raids it just depends how quicly VM trace the servers if they are in this country, If there outside the country i am sure VM will be able to sort something out at there pop sites ;)

The thing I'll love is that they'll pay for the CS server for a month, a few days later it'll be shut down and the group with their monthly payment will vanish.. They then have to look for another group where the same thing will happen.. In the end they'll be paying out more than a full subscription with maybe a possible ban on them having an internet connection for a few years

You don't even need DPI, all it takes is for VM to get their hands on a box and bingo, they have all the information on the server they need.

Commercial card sharing is as dumb as downloading from the major torrent sites, you're just advertising to the world that you're infringing.

I disagree about spoon fed morons not knowing how to set up a vpn though, it's really not difficult as there are a ton of open vpns out there that are literally one click setup. All it takes is one more step in the instruction guide.

i agree with you all:D.tho theres always the possibility of using a different bb provider,ofcourse there will be raids/court cases the same as in the past,it will be far far easier to shut down comercial public cardshares no doubt,its still going on tho,cardshareing has been going on in the sat scene for years and ive only seen 2 or 3 articles about servers being busted in mainland europe and 1 sky cs in the uk.
