Metallica - "To Live is to Die"


Absolutely awesome song! A truly epic masterpiece. Nearly ten minutes of amazingly powerful guitaring etc., with just a few lines of lyrics (sung by James Hetfield, but written by the late great Cliff Burton) near-ish the end.

at the moment however, dream theater's beyond this life beats the pants off of it. the budokan live version is 19 (yes, 19 :shocked: ) minutes long...

so yeah, im listening to dream theater - live at the budokan.

anyone who likes rock/prog/metal music should listen to dream theater, got two of the best instrumentalists in the world in that group :)

six degrees of inner turbulence by the same is good too, double cd album, the entire first cd is one song...... :D

Just downloaded a compilation of all my different CDs onto my new MP3 player. Didn't get te player that I really wanted (couldn't justify the cost) but the one I've got seems ok, holds enough music for me to be able to get by for a few hours at work, and didn't cost the earth.

All I need to do now is expand my musical collection a little.

I'm thinking of broadening my musical tastes a little, anybody got any suggestions for new groups I could listen to?

In recent years I've re-discovered G'n'R, developed a taste for Avril Lavigne and Snow Patrol and discovered that I don't like Foo Fighters.

I thought I might try some light dance music, or even try to find some more groups a bit like Snow Patrol, any thoughts?

I like oldies - I get on better with them than people my own age. I was just pointing out that these days there seems to be a lot more bands/groups around, and none last longer than a year before a new group emerges that looks and sounds like the last group. It's getting hard to tell them apart, and as I said - I don't know most of them at all.

I can manage the first 3 notes of Silent Night, but if I could play the piano and I played the opening notes of, say, Bridge Over Troubled Water, you'd know it straight away. Can you say that of any modern band? Not that they'd ever use a piano. Hmmmm :erm:

Well some newer groups are ok.It's all this Pop Idol cr@p that depresses me.And when Robbie Williams wins the best single of the past 25 years award I'm even more depressed.I thought that would have gone To Oasis and Wonderwall?But then again they are as derivative as Robbie Williams. :rolleyes:

I do have a CDR compilation that my daughter made for a Crimbo present.I have lost the list of who is on it but most of them sound pretty good.The stuff's there but you just have to look like we always did I suppose.There were manufactured bands in the 50's,60's,70's,80's and good musicians,singers,bands and songwriters still flourished.However I have made Bowie,Kinks,Who,Rolling Stones,Adam Ant,Eurythmics,Human League and The Smiths fans out of both my 22 and 16 year children.I have to have a border check before eldest born leaves the house with any of my collection.

I am present listening to Placebo's Bitter End by the way just to stay on topic. :tu:

One of these days I must renew my Moody Blues Albums from tape to CD's.

Well, in a minute, I will be listening to "People hold on - the best of Coldcut" for the second time today..

Just a shame that despite the fact they included "Doctorin' the house" (which was originally released under the name "Yazz and the Plastic Population"), they didn't include "The Only Way Is Up", which was also released under the name "Yazz And The Plastic Population". In both cases, the "Plastic Population" was Coldcut.
