Thats also a very good firewall, i used that before going back to Sygate as it wouldn't configure with my bluetooth connection

I had so many problems with firewalls and antivirus programs that I gave up and stopped using them all together over a year ago, and guess what, Ive never had a problem with being hacked, spyware, viruses etc. Whats all the fuss about?!

Open ZoneAlarm click "Firewall" - Where it says "Internet Zone Security" i put mine to "Medium" after that had very little issues.

Just be glad they didn't go as low as mine! :D Went right down to an average 0.27 (not a typo) when I have been on 3.7. Just did a full (complete with computer shut down) reboot and all is well again. :tu:

Woke up this morning and the upgrade still hadn't been done.Although i shouldn't have to i rebooted the modem and it worked. Why didn't the upgrade come through normally without having to do that or would it have come through if i had waited a few more hours? Also where on your computer is the page that tells you what internet company you have and other details about your connection? I managed to find the one where it tells you about your computer and what make it is.

Any speed upgrade requires a reboot of the cable modem as it needs to download a new configuration file for the new speed.

Well I finally got full download speed after uninstalling Zone alarm. Thanks for the tip. I only had it configured to check on programs trying to access the 'net as I have a hardware firewall in the router. Do you think it would br worth firing up windows firewall to keep an eye on programs accessing the 'net?

1st 512K took 1094 ms = 468 KB/sec, approx 3856 Kbps, 3.77 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1109 ms = 461.7 KB/sec, approx 3804 Kbps, 3.71 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1063 ms = 481.7 KB/sec, approx 3969 Kbps, 3.88 Mbps
4th 512K took 1078 ms = 475 KB/sec, approx 3914 Kbps, 3.82 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3886 Kbps, 3.8 Mbps

Using Kerio 4 here with no problems with speed
After speed issues with Zone Alarm limiting me to 2.7.
Just tried the Sunbelt version of Kerio ver 4 , no joy for me, even worse, went down to .8Mb

Is uninstalling Zone Alarm the real answer to why people are getting slow speed test reults. Maybe its just the speedtest software that is affected by Zone Alarm and not actual download speeds?

I only get on average 2.7 Meg when using the speed test, but my downloads are downloading at approx 350 KBps, so would they download any quicker by removing Zone Alarm?

It certainly should, mine tops out at around 486KBs. :)

Is there anyone who can actually CONFIRM that Zone Alarm is causing the speed issue? I spoke to NTL Support who said it was nonsense.

Since the upgrade I have only ever managed to get around 2.4 Meg whether using http or nntp. I do have Zone Alarm installed but why should it affect a 4 Meg connection when it didn't interfere with my previous 2 Meg connection which performed as expected ?

Also, is there any way I can disable the True Vector component of Zone Alarm without having to uninstall the whole program?

Evidence is anecdotal, but with ZA installed I get 2.8Mb/s with ZA uninstalled I get 3.8Mb/s - using both the forum speed test & also David Elwells.

That doesn't 'confirm' ZA as the cause of the problem, but does confirm how it can be cured....

afaik you can't disable true vector without uninstalling?
