Oh Mark, we're so sorry that you're alone this Christmas. If only you were closer we'd have been happy to have you join us for dinner.

Wasn't alone, if I hadn't been quick to dodge I could have had aftershave from my little brother in my eyes. So immature.

I'm saving and disappearing next Christmas. Glad everyone else had a great day though.

Glad you had company even if it wasn't quite what you wanted.

Just finished washing, leathering and valeting the car. Won't have to do that for a while.:)

Give all that nonsense up and try some decent waterless wash/wax. Been using it for years and even managed to convert my neighbour who was always a wash, sponge, chamois devotee. :tu:

Think I still want to wash off the grime with plenty of soapy water to avoid scratching the paintwork.

Whatever works for you. :tu:

That's exactly what I and my long suffering neighbour thought. :) Do what I did and get yourself a piece of pristine stainless steel, cover it with crap, then spray on the stuff and wipe it off. If you're not impressed carry on with the sponge/chamois. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it works. At about £5 a 1 litre bottle you've little to lose because it's great on windows, shower doors, upvc etc etc.

Well, after a few toxic months with my manager we had a long talk whilst working last week and things have been so much better since then. It's exactly like how it used to be before I let my feelings get in the way which is excellent.

Also, asked for and was approved a day's holiday in February to go to Portsmouth Dockyard to activate a year's pass for 2.

Just got another new animé to watch sometime. Cowboy Bebop. It's dubbed but also has a Japanese audio track available and English subtitles.

Quote:

The series premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo from April 3 until June 26, 1998, broadcasting only twelve episodes and a special due to its controversial adult-themed content. The entire twenty-six episodes of the series were later broadcast on WOWOW from October 24 until April 24, 1999.
Just had a sneak preview of the first episode. Beautiful animation and very violent.:)

Mrs Osem had another really nice morning treating patients and their carers at our local hospice. I must admit I'd worried that the emotional toll on her might be too much but so far she's come across some wonderful people and despite hearing some terribly sad tales she's coped very well and felt she's at least contributed something positive to their lives at an awful time. I'm proud of her. :)

Thanks weenie yes she is very special and I wouldn't change her for the world. In all the doom and gloom about the NHS etc. it's easy to forget about all the volunteers and staff who do their best to help others in very trying circumstances. She told me about 2 elderly volunteers who help out at the hospice serving hot drinks and biscuits to the patients and carers. Apparently they're well into their 80's but still giving to others. :)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I did not know how much volunteers did in the NHS until sadly I was put in this situation with my Mum Osem. It was only then I became aware at just how much volunteers do for the patients and their families. The volunteers at my Mum's hospital have offered me advice, given me help line numbers and on many occasions just a out let to talk.

I have often came home and said to my hubby how amazing and kind the volunteers are.

Have you listened to the soundtrack? If not then I suggest you don't. Much better to experience it first in the context of the story and the live show.

And yes the influence of (imo) South Park is strong in it. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are pretty good at that kind of thing too as evidenced by the South Park musical.

Hoping by posting this I am not putting a curse on it, but I think something might be developing between me and a coworker. I won't say anything more in case I curse it for myself.

Take is easy and slow, and don't profess too much affection too soon - let the relationship build on it's own.

Learn from experience...

Tread carefully mate. If anything ever does develop and it falls through you still have to work with them.

Indeed experience can give you some harsh lessons sometimes as nothing is ever plain sailing in the world of romance.

I'm letting her do all the chasing, I learnt from my manager. But there has been a spark there for a couple of months.

Local chav has just blown up the engine of his car. Pistons almost made it through the bonnet. Oil and steam everywhere.

Not the manager, what I meant was (and didn't word very well) that after all that with her last year, I learnt my lesson and am letting this girl (I view her as a girl, she's 10 years younger than me) do all the chasing. The manager is happily seeing another manager in a different office so that's all fine, we had a long talk after Christmas and things are at least on a civil level atm. That's fine by me. I much preferred it when we were able to tease each other and have a laugh at the right times.

Delicious smell of slow cooking steak-in-ale pie filling drifting round the house. Needs another 3-4 hours to make the meat meltingly tender.

Enough for six #2 size pies. Two for tonight and the rest go in the freezer in their ceramic dishes for another time. I keep the frozen puff pastry separately and unite them after defrosting.

Out of hospital after a week long stay

On the downside, until the operation I can only have ultra low fat, low dairy diet. That and coamoxiclav are really crippling me

That depends on how a individual sees it as some will say its money well spent if it makes their daily lives that bit more comfortable.

Lovely. I like to add loads of very small onions, whole, when I'm making a nice steak pie/casserole. Have you tried a pressure cooker for the meat? We have a low pressure version which isn't quite so daunting but works really well and easily cuts cooking times in half. I know that means the house isn't filled with the aroma for as long however...

Don't have a pressure cooker so I'm quite happy to use a diffuser and get the gas down low - just flickering so the pot ticks over.

My red-tops at the weekend have a whole variety of puzzles over 3 or 4 pages like sudoko, futoshiki, suguru and word workout: That's where the letters are replaced by numbers and you have to work out which letter goes where. They do give you three to get started. Good to keep the grey matter exercised. :)
