Arsenal’s annual wage bill is understood to have moved ahead of Chelsea’s for the first time in more than a decade, the Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Accounts for the year ending May 31, 2014 were published on Friday by Arsenal and revealed that the annual wage bill had increased to £166.4 million, while revenues exceeded £300 million for the first time in the club’s history. This summer’s transfer activity, however, is not included in the accounts and the net increase to the wage bill following the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers is around £25 million. That would put the wage bill for this current 2014-15 season at just over £190 million.

Interesting. Finishing 4th still acceptable for Arsenal?

I just read this story. Astonishing. And no, it almost certainly isn't enough anymore. Arsenal fans also pay the highest ticket prices and their manager is the best paid, apparently in the world. Wenger has a 3 year contract and needs to deliver some serious silverware in that time.

The top clubs are adjusting their wage structure...putting more money to bonus payments rather than weekly (monthly, whatever) salary. Mainly as bonus payments don't count towards ffp. Bigger risk for the players, but no doubt compensated by bigger bonuses.

The story does refer to wage bill, so I don't know if that means total including salary and bonuses, but even if it doesn't I think my point stands - Wenger must now deliver trophies.

And apart from their rather lucky FA Cup victory they have not a hope in hell of winning the PL or the CL.
