Also, I've never rented an HD film from FilmFlex or watched a blu-ray film in full but is the quality not going to be greater from the disc? I can see your point about convenience, of course. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
i did factor in area for watching a film more than once - 30 movies, 50 seperate viewings.
But oh well, ultimately nothing beats actually physically owning a film. For now anyway. :} |

I bought a Blu Ray player as I wanted to see the best picture quality on my LCD TV, which is full HD 1080P not I. I have only update a few of my fav films to Blu Ray and remember these players upscale DVD's as well. The point I was trying to make earlier was that if possible it is much cheaper to rent a Blu Ray movie from LoveFilm than one HD one through FilmFlex on your stb |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
My wife and daughter occassionally watch movies on Filmflex, although less so now that we have Sky Movies and Film4 in HD. The main reason is convenience: it's Saturday night and there's nothing on any of the channels that appeals and FilmFlex has a movie we missed at the cinema. There's no video shop locally any more and we don't buy more than a couple of DVDs a year. It may not be the cheapest but it is convenient. 48 hours' rental is a big improvement.

If I recall correctly I was not able to access the "red button" for Sky sports. Will Tivo have this? |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
Thought the red button was an issue outside of Tivo and is coming "in due course", but sure I've read somewhere that the red button is due to be added to the Tivo software anyway. I've read either on the Tivo thread or a Tivo blog where VM stated this was one of the items they are having to add to the USA standard Tivo software, so means it is definitely included then.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
Found where I had read it, see following blog and 6th December posting. Just relaised when "red button" was stated, it could mean the one that is already available before the introduction of the Sky red button for their sports channels say, but that is already reported as coming anyway.
http://virgintivo.blogspot.com/ Cindy Rose, Virgin Media's digital entertainment executive director, told PaidContent:UK more about the software development for Virgin's version of TiVo: It’s based on the main TiVo software code tree. We’ve branched slightly to adapt it to the UK market. The U.S. doesn’t have catch-up, Red Button or a watershed - we had to make certain minimal changes to make it relevant for the UK. We also painted it red and corrected the spelling! Other than that, we’ve stayed true to the core TiVo product. That will make it easier for us in future to stay consistent with TiVo’s main-line development roadmap. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV
Red Button means any interactive services - so that would cover the BBC and ITV's services, not just Sky's
