Me not.

Give me a Samsung & HDMI any day ;)

Its only because im using my Dell Monitor at the moment, where the DVI connection is taken by the PC, so im forced to use component, unless i plugin my DVI switcher box (cant be assed tho too much hassle).

Once I get my 42inch Plasma, it will be HDMI all round and Tivo hopefully :D

well as a response to some people who are saying about blurays being cheaper than a rental - not everyone has a blurray player.

lets just say you watch 1 films per week on your bluray player (~£100)

you own around 30 bluray discs (~£7)

around 52 seperate veiwings a year

30x7 = £210

210+100 = £310

£310/52 = ~£5.96

If you only watch one bluray a week, it would be in this case cheaper to rent from filmflex, and you dont even have to leave your sofa.

Just saying

But when you buy the blu-ray disc you have it for good and can rewatch to your hearts content, unlike the FilmFlex rental. (Since one has payed out for the player and disc, it's unlikely they are going to watch it once only.)

Also, I've never rented an HD film from FilmFlex or watched a blu-ray film in full but is the quality not going to be greater from the disc?

I can see your point about convenience, of course.

i did factor in area for watching a film more than once - 30 movies, 50 seperate viewings.

But oh well, ultimately nothing beats actually physically owning a film. For now anyway.

Hi Clummy,

I bought a Blu Ray player as I wanted to see the best picture quality on my LCD TV, which is full HD 1080P not I. I have only update a few of my fav films to Blu Ray and remember these players upscale DVD's as well.

The point I was trying to make earlier was that if possible it is much cheaper to rent a Blu Ray movie from LoveFilm than one HD one through FilmFlex on your stb

Exactly right, virgin are so out of touch on this pricing, when you can buy dvd's and blurays and watch permenantly for the same price. They would treble the viewing of filmflex if it was a sensible pricing system £1 per film than the overpriced £4.99 extortion running at present for films that can be up to 10 years old, they need to get in the real world of what things cost today.

Do VM set the price, or are they set by FilmFlex?

My wife and daughter occassionally watch movies on Filmflex, although less so now that we have Sky Movies and Film4 in HD. The main reason is convenience: it's Saturday night and there's nothing on any of the channels that appeals and FilmFlex has a movie we missed at the cinema. There's no video shop locally any more and we don't buy more than a couple of DVDs a year. It may not be the cheapest but it is convenient. 48 hours' rental is a big improvement.

Am with Sky. Returned from Virgin last year.

If I recall correctly I was not able to access the "red button" for Sky sports. Will Tivo have this?

Thought the red button was an issue outside of Tivo and is coming "in due course", but sure I've read somewhere that the red button is due to be added to the Tivo software anyway. I've read either on the Tivo thread or a Tivo blog where VM stated this was one of the items they are having to add to the USA standard Tivo software, so means it is definitely included then.

Found where I had read it, see following blog and 6th December posting. Just relaised when "red button" was stated, it could mean the one that is already available before the introduction of the Sky red button for their sports channels say, but that is already reported as coming anyway.

http://virgintivo.blogspot.com/

Cindy Rose, Virgin Media's digital entertainment executive director, told PaidContent:UK more about the software development for Virgin's version of TiVo:

It’s based on the main TiVo software code tree. We’ve branched slightly to adapt it to the UK market. The U.S. doesn’t have catch-up, Red Button or a watershed - we had to make certain minimal changes to make it relevant for the UK. We also painted it red and corrected the spelling!

Other than that, we’ve stayed true to the core TiVo product. That will make it easier for us in future to stay consistent with TiVo’s main-line development roadmap.

Red Button means any interactive services - so that would cover the BBC and ITV's services, not just Sky's

In actual fact, the studio sets the price to a certain extent. Hence the variation in pricing for new releases :)
