Cricket can be accessed in more ways then just Sky.

You mean by actually going to the game ?? I have a day tried at Headingley in April, still getting hypothermia treatment.... :shocked:

tbh I use a relatives Sky Go account to access Sky Sports, very cost effective, but i might consider paying if they had a cricket channel.

Yes definitely getting softer in old age !

Big TMS fan. Ideal way is to watch Sky muted with the TMS commentary on the radio, syncing the sound can be an artform though....

I can't help thinking that there will be consequences one day. At the moment, with vpns, people have a sense of security, but ultimately, I believe a way will be found (if it hasn't already) to track what you are doing, and all these past gateway busting methods will leave a permanent digital footprint.

I prefer to sleep at night!

You do realise using a vpn is perfectly legal right?
Also watching tv from other regions including different netflix or amazon instant video regions is not illegal.
Torrents are a different matter they are not illegal however downloading copyright material is illegal which makes torrents a minefield they aren't illegal as there is plenty of perfectly legal content and software that use torrents.
Streaming also is not illegal it's a grey area but not illegal.

No you're spot on there mate but Netflix and others seem to think charging the UK more than other regions is fine where they should try to bring the pricing equal in all regions.
WWE Network is another one guilty of charging the uk far more than other regions £9.99 in uk $9.99 in usa which works out about £8.50 but at the time when wwe launched it's network in uk $9.99 was only around £6.70.

I am sure you believe that, theone, but the fact is, when you are watching stuff on the US version of Netflix, for example, you have access to programmes that are not available on that platform in the UK. That means that by watching that programme, you are infringing copyright.

For example, if a programme in the UK is available on Sky, and you watch it on Netflix US, you are denying Sky the revenue they should be getting from you. The position is complicated, and the reasons for different charges in different countries is caused by a range of considerations, including the cost of broadcasting in different countries.

I think people have been misled into thinking that there is nothing unlawful about accessing material they are not meant to be watching because great play has been given to the fact that they are prosecuting the operators of pirate sites, the sellers of fully loaded Kodi boxes, etc rather than those viewing the material.

However, when the technology permits more easily the ability to track down those watching material on sites they should not be accessing, it would be strange indeed if those doing so were not finally brought to book.

Make the most of it while you can may be your motto, but these chickens may finally come home to roost.

Basically, watching material you are not supposed to look at in this way is just as unlawful as watching without a tv licence. The fact that they are not going after you right now doesn't mean it's lawful and it doesn't mean that they won't catch up with you with a big fat bill eventually.

With that in mind, my interest in Kodi and vpns is now exhausted, and I'm out, as they say.

Out before i provide you with some actual facts dear chap?
When used for legal purposes, VPNs are not considered illegal in most countries and anyone can go ahead and start using a VPN service. The act of surfing through another IP is legal, and is something even the biggest companies in the world do all the time. If you however hide behind a VPN service to perform illegal activities, then you’re of course violating the law.
What’s Considered Illegal?

Certain activities are absolutely illegal and shouldn’t be performed with a VPN service. Most quality VPN providers will strictly forbid these in their terms of service:

Child pornography
Email and account hacking
Spreading viruses
Spamming via email or other ways
Fraud, theft, scamming
In countries that restrict online movie providers, you can use a VPN to unlock these sites to gain access to their files and videos. Generally, using this system for legal purposes is fine in most countries unless you are found to have used it for illegal reasons. Hiding your IP address to perform illegal activities can get you in trouble.
nothing about watching tv from other countries https://vpn-services.bestreviews.net...-to-use-a-vpn/ a bit like your on going debate about online tv replacing linear tv really another argument you start but fail epicly and on that i shall leave it there *drops the mic*

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Computer Misuse Act 1990:
1 Unauthorised access to computer material.
(1) A person is guilty of an offence if—
(a) he causes a computer to perform any function with intent to secure access to any program or data held in any computer [F1, or to enable any such access to be secured] ;
(b) the access he intends to secure [F2, or to enable to be secured,] is unauthorised; and
(c) he knows at the time when he causes the computer to perform the function that that is the case.
(2) The intent a person has to have to commit an offence under this section need not be directed at—
(a) any particular program or data;
(b) a program or data of any particular kind; or
(c) a program or data held in any particular computer.
A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable—
(a) on summary conviction in England and Wales, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or to both;
(b) on summary conviction in Scotland, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding [F412] months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or to both;
(c) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to a fine or to both.]

A relatively low level offence, but criminal just the same. It would seem that just using a VPN in itself does not give you 'authorised' access to data (i.e. content) you are not entitled to have access to. In fact you may by fraudulently misrepresenting your location and entitlement to access that content with intent to avoid payment for it, also be guilty of the rather more serious offence of fraud.

Using a vpn is not in itself unlawful, I agree. What you use it for is the issue.

Thank you for the link. That makes it alright, then.

And yet....

Kodi has perfectly legal addons such as ABC, Freeform, foxsport etc it is a grey area to use these in uk but for now it is not illegal but is frowned upon.
Kodi themselves have stated they want to work with tv providers to get more legit addons onboard and if abc, fox are anything to go by it may be tv companies are getting onboard.
Then you get to the addons provided by third parties which i did use yes but have stopped using them not because they are illegal but because they can expose your network.
I shall continue to use kodi, i have sky and netflix but some shows i enjoy aren't on uk networks Salem being a prime example and stitchers that is why i use kodi other stuff aka arrow, the flash etc i watch via skygo.
Also regarding movies i tend to rent them via my ps4 as psn rental is cheaper than sky box office and it's hd too.
Hope this clears up things a little i'm not the naughty boy you make me out to be :p:

Using a VPN per se is not illegal. Using it to access content or other data with intent to avoid payment to the owner of that content may well be.
The fact that content owners like Sky have not gone for users illegally accessing their content does not mean they will never do so. More likely they will put pressure on the likes of Netflix to crack down on VPN use.

Netflix have already cracked down on vpns, Netflix to their credit are aiming to get global rights for content so they can show the same content in all regions they operate in.

:) Good luck to you, theone - I'm not judging you, but others reading these posts could be led astray if they are not wary, and that is why I responded.

There are certainly some grey areas, but that doesn't mean that you don't run the risk of prosecution.

Readers also need to know that by accessing other geographical Netflix sites, they are breaching Netflix's conditions of use.

TruTV +1 has been resurrected on Sky by the channels new owners. Wonder if it's coming to VM?
