Thanks Den. I've looked on the rail planner and there's no disruption reported for my trip. Once I'm on the Riviera Express at Reading there's no more connections until Penzance. High pressure seems to be moving in for Sunday so hopefully nice weather.

Cheers Nash. Mum's somewhat confused these days and not too mobile but she knows I'm coming down to see her and is looking forward to it. She likes my cooking as she doesn't do much herself these days.

Looks like the weekend will be good weather at least. :)

The first and Last Inn has re-opened. I can't believe that they closed it before Xmas and stayed shut over New Year and Easter. A buddy has suggested some kind of tax issue (scam?) as it opened in the first week of April with a new team.

Apparently they've poached the fish chef from the Gurnard's Head Hotel.:D

Personally I would rather endure the 9 hours drive than getting a train.

If driving were an option (it's only 5 1/2 hours;)) I'd take it but at the moment I have a block of rust in my garage pretending to be a car. :(

Anyhow out just before 7 this morning to walk to the station with a rucksack and (heavy) tote bag. Train is at 7:36.

My sister got a job today! Working at Morrisons on the checkouts. Working 10-7 Saturdays. She worked out that she'll be taking home just short of £250 a month, so not a bad start for a 17 year old. She's thrilled about it, as we all are for her. She's been doing odd bits of work since she was 16, so she's not your stereotypical teen who wants to be lazy.

Excellent Marc I bet your sister will earn more during the summer months as well in the Christmas period, as I assume Morrisons will be similar to Sainsburys. At Sainsburys there is always overtime during these periods sometimes I could more than double my hours.

I have some good news of my own well actually some fantastic news. It is very much looking like hubby will be getting what he requested and redeployed very soon, we are just waiting for the paper work to confirm what was said. Thank goodness he is no longer on the Tupe transfer list. Hubby had a meeting with his manager and HR on Friday and they confirmed that he will be getting redeployed with the same pay and hours etc all I can say is phew that was a hard few months of not knowing and I'm for one glad it is over for us but can't help but feel sorry for his work mates as most have not been as fortunate as us.

I owe a big thank you to our eldest son for his knowledge in employment law and letter writing skills.

I love being debt free, the closest I come is my credit card, but I pay that off monthly.

I have set a figure in my account say £3,000 and below that I'm in the red.

Its a great buffer which goes up as funds go up.

Excellent, always nice to be debt free and to keep it that way, if you have a dodgy credit rating(you can check) you should look into improving it.

My understanding is you need some debit to get a good rating.

i.e have a credit card and I pay it off everytime.

Mine also, it is a good idea to have a credit card and pay it off every month to build a good or clear a bad credit rating.

A credit card is only a good idea if the user consistently pays it off each month as in the wrong hands it can have pretty bad consequences in my opinion.

Fancy breaking that down for us? I've just realised it's over a year since I got shot of our old Samsung STB for a SH so I should be able to negoatiate a new better deal.

Our monthly bill was just rising and rising Osem so we phoned retentions and said we are thinking of cancelling our services and he asked why so l explained to him why we were considering this and upon that he asked if we had received offers from elsewhere which we have then he said he was going to offer to reduce our Big Kahuna Sports Bundle which was nearing £130 a month to £99 a month for 12 months as they don't want to lose loyal long term customers to which l replied can l have this in writing and thus a new 12 month contract starts in June and once that ends he said to phone them up again.

Until l see the bill later in June l don't exactly know the breakdown of things but once l do l will post it but my advice is if one is unhappy and their contract is coming to a end then phone up retentions and tell them you are thinking of leaving and l am pretty sure they will offer customers a much better deal rather then lose custom to rivals.

Well as we don't drink , smoke or do a lot of other things our entertainment is generally at home most of the time unless our family come down here or we go up to their place so yes although it seems quite a bit when it is split into 3 then its not too bad forking out that per month and even better when one gets a price reduction on their contract.

And again, be polite. Don't call and demand money off, I always say when I call for a relative is that they need to be careful with expenditure, they always look at the best deal for her, in fact they seem happy to offer her a good deal because apart from once she has never missed a payment to Virgin.

Just back from Whitby Social Club, Elsemere Port, Fantastic country concert , The whole show was brilliant, Marty Haggard the son of Merle is an outstanding singer, he is actually called after Marty Robbins, as his father was a great Marty Robins fan, Just a wee bit of knowledge for you

Osem 10-05-2016 10:40

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Well the wife and #1 son very much enjoyed their all singing, all dancing, 3D, 4k, super duper sound etc. etc. performance of Captain America. Apparently it was awesome so it was money well spent.

Meanwhile, I treated #2 son to his favourite fish and chips in the pub. It was really nice to share what for most people would be a regular occurrence with a grown up child. I hadn't told him about it so when we walked into the pub it was lovely seeing him all excited about his treat and then tucking into his food - apart from the garden peas that is. He will eat them when pushed but isn't all that keen so when I prompted him to try them he took a mouthful and washed them straight down with a mouthful of apple juice. No chewing, they didn't even touch the sides! :) It was like watching him swallowing his various daily tablets but on a much larger scale and to be fair, he finished the lot without any further prompting.

It was so nice doing something a bit more grown up with him - the sort of thing dads ought to do with their adult children but the sort of thing which is difficult because of his difficulties. Luckily the pub was quiet, we got a nice booth at the back and he was on his best behaviour - I even managed to have a sort of 'conversation' with him about the food etc. I was only later that I started thinking about how much I've missed out on as he's grown up but I've decided I'm going to make more effort to take him out and share some boys time as best as we can. He'll be going away to college in a few months and although I'm pretty sure he'll enjoy it, I will worry about him and miss him hugely.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Yes Osem they grow up fast and I'm pleased you had such a good day with #2 son you both seem to have really enjoyed some father & son time. I'm also pleased that Mrs O and #1 son enjoyed their day also, both your boy's are very lucky indeed to have such wonderful and caring parents.

My happy thoughts today are: The wee one is getting really excited about his China trip with the school when he woke up this morning he came running down the stairs and said "Mum that's two nights in a row I have had a dream about China" bless him.

Hubby started his new job title and place of work today through redeployment. I know it will be different for him as he is used to working alone and now he is in a squad although his main duties will still be driving just a JCB along with other vehicles ie Hiab etc. I'm just so pleased that he got what he wanted and away from vital services as the CEO at his place of work seems set on outsourcing vital services and it's the men who will suffer IMO at least now he is no longer linked to this service. I do feel so sorry for the men who is still under threat of Tupe as it's not nice especially the not knowing but that is the trouble the men seem to be kept in the dark. I'm just thankful that we a no longer living under that dark cloud of the unknown in regards to hubbys work.

Membership includes Roadside £8.68, Relay £8.36 & Family cover £13.21 amount to be collected on 30/06/2016 is £30.34 then ongoing amount to be collected monthly thereafter £30.23 your renewal includes an increase in the rate of insurance premium tax from 6% to 9.5% which came into effect on 1st November 2015  so I phoned them and told them to cancel this cover after a few minutes of talking to Anne she said would you stay with us if I lowered the payments to £20.00 a month with the same cover as you have now and I said yes. Job well done as every penny counts hubby will be pleased :)

After passing Mod2 in March I'd been a very nervous biker.

This weekend, the helmsley TT and then onto Whitby everything just clicked, overtaking, leaning properly on corners, bit of filtering.

Got off the bike grinning from ear to ear

Well done. :tu:

I'd had only 2-3 claims in over 20 years of AA membership membership and as they did with you, they tried it on with a massive price hike 3-4 years ago. Suffice it to say that the whole thing was handled very badly and in the end I cancelled my membership. I subsequently negotiated virtually equivalent cover with my car insurance at no extra cost on my premiums. My insurers were evidently more keen to keep my business than the AA were so offered the cover for nothing.

PS I can see why weenie Jnr. is excited. :)

I think I may have been lucky Osem or maybe they have learned a lesson with losing good customers.

Sun out, washing out, house work done except for the wee one's room and that will take 5 minutes at the most so a good start to the day. Think I'm going to just chill out today with my book in the garden.

I think you fully deserve your relatively few moments of anger, frustration or negativity. ;)

That happened to me once devilin and I sat down with a pro and cons list on both job offers i.e pay, holidays, job security etc in the end I chose the one with better pay and less hours because at the time that suited my needs with a young family.

Good luck with the decision you have to make and well done on the job offers.

As if to prove it never seems to end I'm afraid I'm back in hospital with chest pains... So far they are thinking angina but are worried that /may/ lead to another heart attack. Oh and I've got to have another angiogram but looking on the bright side at least it can't kill my kidneys this time round so all is good :)
